Guys,
I have thought through this. Sicne most of us will have only Tuesday for Maranello we should make the most of the daytime and see the Galleria and some of the shops and the test track.

How about Dinner at Cavallino. I can get a table there for dinner at 7:30pm. My wife's secretary speaks italian and she called if that is open.

Please give me some feedback!

When I was at the Gallery (2 months ago) the lady at the front counter ask if I was a student (probably from the childish way I was behaving). I showed her my faculty ID figured they don't know the difference. It worked and I saved 2 Euros :-) So if you have a old/current student ID don't forget to bring it and get a discount!

I remember hearing from Ricky or one of his buddies that he went on a factory tour, yet wasnt an owner, so maybe you dont have to be an owner to go on one.
Steven, i bet in 50 years we will be driving around in things that look like that white car in the opening page of your pinninfarina tour. I just dont understand how you described it as "retro futuristic", isnt that an oxymoron? (jk, i know what you mean by that- 20 years ago thats what they thought things would look like in the future. They also thought we would have colonized the moon by now too....)

I will see to that. I march right in there and slam my fist on the desk and say:

I am Miami348TS and I demand that you setup tours for F-Chatters! TomD wants to come and so do others!

Final comment from my part:

If you guys are going to the Monaco GP it is almost a 'waste' to go to Maranello for Ferraris...
:-)
Seriously, you won't believe how many Ferraris are flooding Monte Carlo during the GP. There won't be a single street without at least one, believe me. It is insane. Come Monday, they're all gone. Like Salmon spawning.

Some additional thoughts. It is worth hanging out just across from the main gate (a bottle of vino helps) on the lawn in front of the official store. During an hour I saw what turned out to be the new Challenge Stadale, and a new 456 test mule going to Fiorano. Also was out jogging and had an Enzo blast by. All of the other suggestions are good, including visiting the variety of Ferrari merchandise shops. If the weather is good, from that central hotel location you can really walk everywhere you need to. Dining in Maranello is a little thin, however, and it is well worth a drive into Modena to eat.

Two thoughts not always mentioned. The Ferrari Club of Maranello (and someone else) has garages where they service cars near the factory. It is well worth strolling by and sticking you head in. At one the were 4 (four!) F-40's and 2 F-50's, along with the usual suspects.

If you have a meal at Il Cavalino, take your regional Ferrari Club chapter sticker--there is a collection of these on the front glass door from all over the world.

One last thought is to take a point and shoot camera that is light enough to have with you at all times. I missed getting pictures of the 360 and 456 (above) because my digital camera had gone into sleep mode. I heard the Enzo coming, though, and got some OK shots of it. In retrospect, I would have a box camera in my hand the entire time I was in the city.

Hi,

Arranged a tour via my local dealer. My Ferari factory tour can be seen at http://www.enjoythemusic.com/milan2002/ferrari/ while my (more rare than Ferrari) private tour of the Pininfarina facility can be seen at http://www.enjoythemusic.com/ferrari/pininfarina.htm .

Enjoy the Drive,

Hubert,
if you own a Ferrari you can call FNA and ask for Mrs Rodriguez. She is handling the tours and you will have to fax her the info on your car and be a member of the Owners.ferrari.com site. She is a sweetheart and has done more than expected to get the tour arranged for Marion and I. I don't know if she can still get you in on such short notice.

Jerry and his friends and Marion and I will be on the same tour on Tuesday at 10:00am. Actually upon the advise of Tino in LA we are staying 2 nights at a hotel just accross from the factory gate. I can see if I can make some arrangements for you there as well.
If you are not able to get the tour arranged no worries I hear there is more than enough to do around there. We will arrive from San Remo Monday night in Maranello and then do the tour in the morning with Jerry and later the Museum and test track and all the other good jive.
On Wednesday we will head out in the morning to Florence and Siena for sight seeing and maybe later Venice.
I am still looking for some mug shots of myself. Don't want to use the ones from the Police since they have my arrest numbers on them. They constantly take me in for the night for preaching Martinism on streetcorners :-) hare hare...LOL

Hubert, you're welcome.

Forza 40, October 2002 all about Maranello
Forza 3, Fall 1996 about Modena (and Mille Miglia)

Forget Fiorano, it doesn't exist!
:-)
Seriously, there is NOTHING in Fiorano. The test track is in Maranello (I know it is called Fiorano, but physically it is in Maranello). It's like the Russians who tried to hide their launch pad in the cold war and pretended that all launches came out of Baykonur. Ferrari did the same thing with its test track...
:-)

There are some F Chatters who are doing a factory tour around your dates, maybe they have an open slot? I had one on my tour and invited a fellow F chatter. Ferrari doesn't care about the names, only the numbers.

Andreas- Thank you for the quick reply. Looks like I wont be getting a tour, but I thought I may be able to peruse the grounds, and the museum; the Forza you cite, which issue/month are you reffering to? I'm sure just being there, in Italy, and seeing these cars in their domain will be terrific; I'll be getting into Italy on the 2nd (a Monday) as the Monaco GP conclude the 1st, and will deifnatly make my way over to Fiorano. I'll look into AVIS, and I've got to call AAA to see what they can offer me too. Thanks again for the heads up.

Hubert, you're kinda late in the game for a factory tour. The more or less only way in is via ownership (your profile doesn't tell me whether you have a Ferrari or not). Send a copy of your title to FNA or go via your F dealer. If you write them, offer them some alternate days for your visits. They have only one tour per day and once that is full, that's it. You'll get then a response from FNA with the 'ticket to enter'.

Even if you don't make it to the factory, there is plenty to see in Maranello and Modena. If you pick a weekday like Tuesday, there is even a chance, that they're testing at the track. Check out Forza for a nice report about what to do while in town. You MUST visit the Gallery.

Rent your car from the US. I used autoeurope (Avis), which had a competitive rate, but so do others I'm sure. The point is to get the voucher here and not in Europe or you'll pay a lot more. And if you need automatic, tell them that as it is not standard in Europe.

Dunno whether Monza offers laps. I would think not as it is a park, but drive by there to find out. In the worst case you take a stroll down memory lane on the old bank and snatch some pictures. What's wrong with that?

I'll be in Europe traveling, and the Monaco GP, from May 26th to June 8th, and will wander into Italy around the 2nd of June, but I wanted to get some tips on how to arrange visiting the Factory, how to rent a car (would you guys advise this?), and possibly getting a few laps around Monza? Please reply here, or email me, and info/advice is greatly appreciated:

Martin! See you at the texan. I'll wear something ridiculous.

Thank you,
hubert
