Scott: I get my front resprayed either every year or every other year depending upon how long I can go without the car. I track it once a month. Next time I get it put back right, I am going to try the 3M film. Even with all this front rework, I've never had more than a tiny stone bruise touched up on the front bonnet.

I hated the idea when it first came out -- like wrapping your furniture in plastic like your great aunt does. And lots of the first cars that received the treatment had it installed by unskilled, unexperienced people, and did not look that great, IMHO.

BUT, then, I bought my wife a car that had the film on it, and I fell in love with it. It's barely noticeable, and only if you stare. I can go to the track and not spend hours taping up the car. I've always disliked bras too. So I had it done on the 355, and it looks fanastic. A friend didn't believe I had it done until I pointed out the edges to him.

Dennis, how do you like the 3m film? Is it really worth it?

I just had the front end and rear bumper of my 355 repainted. 33k miles, a lot of track events, meant a lot of chips. The rear was done because, running slicks, I had almost sandblasted the leading edge of the rear bumper where it meets the rear wheelwells. Everything is now covered with the 3M film, so it may be awhile before I need another repaint... :-)

a repaint of the the rear bumper might be more of an eyebrow raiser. as long as it's properly documented it shouldn't be a crisis.

Scott,

I have had some touch ups done to my front end. It happens if you drive the car, I purchased my 355 with 5700 miles and it had a few chips. I would not think twice about this unless it was not purely cosmetic work

I highly doubt that there is ANY Ferrari that is driven that don't have any paintwork on it, esp. the front nose and I've searched as far as across the country before I got mine. When I purchased mine, in one week it started to gather some chips, and underneath- scrape! it will happen and it don't matter how good you drive either. Even the time I owned mine I had the front end resprayed and it came out better than the original respray. Just look for one that has good consistancy in the paint work, look for orangepeel vs. a mirror finish, there is no hiding from a paint job no matter how good it is but I never liked the finish of the factory paint job anyway...

Scott,
You will be hard pressed to find a car that has NOT had at least the front bumper resprayed, unless it is on of those "garage queens" that gets 500 miles a year put on it...

Not a big deal, as long as it is done professionally, with no drips, sags, fish eyes or overspray....

Stone chips ! Most Sport cars have their front bumper repainted at some point of their life !The hood could have suffered from the same problem , maybe some track time too..

Rear Bumpers are repainted if the car gets parked on the street ..

Is it normal for a 355 to have had the front bumper and hood repainted? What about the rear bumper? It seems that most cars I have looked at have had some paintwork done... I want to be sure that if I purchase one of these cars, it will not be a problem at resale time...

Thanks,
Scott
