Coming back from the FCA event in Atlanta this weekend, we went through a couple of areas on I-20 that were like driving through a car wash. It helped if the car in front of you had their flashers on -- much easier to see than regular taillights and brake lights.

Like Tommy mentioned, not only was I extra careful about leaving plenty of distance to the car in front of me, I was concerned about someone behind me not being able to stop in time.

Thankfully, each of the two "gully washer" storms only lasted about 10 minutes before becoming "normal" rain.

I don't take the Ferrari out in the rain intentionally for just casual driving, but I don't avoid special events just because it's wet outside. After all, that's why we have treads on our tires!

The only real problem has been a leaky targa top...

I avoid rainy weather just because it's not much fun and (mainly) because I don't want someone sliding into me. I am more worried about that then I am of me sliding into them.

Driving a high performance car in the rain, at a high rate of speed, means you want to replace it with a forced sale to the insurance company when you total it, or 2. You've got no sense.

When I go to the track, and it rains, I find that I learn that much faster. All the limits are lower, and this puts a real premium on smoothness and anticipation. Driving in the wet only increases the time it takes to get the car back into "show" condition.

Kristoffer,
That appears to have nothing to do with the rain, wide tires or driving fast; and all about following too close to the car ahead.

Been there, done that! :-)

Talked to a guy that wrecked his 550 when driving fast in the rain. The car in front of him stood on the brakes and he had no chance to slow down. Driving fast on a slippery road with wide tires is a bad idea.

Heck, I drive mine in the rain, but not much.

My 348 does not do very well at all above 60mph in the rain.

100 mph on public roads in the rain? How long do you plan on keeping your car?

Drive my Fcar in the rain?...No way! With the amount of drivers that do not slow down in the rain, the accident rate sharply increases. I stay in my Explorer!

It wasn't pouring when the photo was taken, but it had been raining off and on all day and I did have my wipers on. Remember, I don't have a front plate on the car so I don't want to invite any unwanted attention from the authorities.

Kuzi: 100mph? Shame, shame. See my post about F-cars only getting you in trouble.

Shame. Bad boy.

Drove my 360 Challenge in the rain yesterday at Watkins Glen. Last lap, last day, I'm sort of daydreaming and don't realize all the surface oil is starting to come up and mix with the light rain on the track. Next thing I know I'm in a 360 degree spin, ended up pointed straight back where I was heading in the first place. Had no idea that those cars were so self-adjusting.

Seriously- early light rain and tight turns don't mix especially with slicks. Watch for that rainbow colored sheen on the road. I do drive my street F-cars in the rain pretty routinely.

I drove my 308 GTS in the rain all the time, and now drive my 328 GTS in the rain as well. It is raining this evening (hail too!), and I think I will drive it out to dinner tonight! They don't melt....

AND, it will get a nice wash tomorrow...

Nothing wrong with driving in the rain, just dry it off afterwards.

It was raining today....I still took her out as well, I dont get to drive her much the way it is. I just made sure to keep a layer of wax on before and wipe her down after the drive.

Its all good.

Aaron - Lights on I understand. But are the cops harsh when running with only the fog-lights? Law to use wipers is a bit funny.

Augustine - I love the color on your 328. Its soo nice!

Kris, wipers on, lights on is the law here now.Not that it was pouring when he took that pic.

Augustine, to bad you couldn't make it to AC in time. I'm really starting to appreciate that fantastically unique color you have.

They are meant to be driven. Just drive it when you feel for it. Maybe its a bad idea if its snowing. But only maybe :-)

Augustine - do you always drive with the flip-lights up?

I live in New Jersey so if I didn't drive my F-car in the rain, I wouldn't get to drive it at all.Upload
