>>>The big turnoff of the Lusso is that the tach/Speedo isnt in front of the driver... I LOVE the set-up in the Alfa Romeo GTV (Transaxle series) where the tach is right in front of you and the speedo is tucked away in the middle of the dash! It's very much the idea of "who cares how fast you're going, it's the engine that counts!" and that fits wonderfully in the Alfa philosophy. Donwside of the Lusso is that the tacho is indeed to far away. Jack |

Andrew, it's easier to see the bulbous rear fender line in that last pic. Looks like series II 275 GTB/C bodywork. |

Thanks a lot to you guys for the information ! This Lusso seems pretty cheap when compared to the market value of a regular Lusso ( +/- 150k ). That 275 really does look weird , the rear arches are wider than a regular IMO (http://speed.supercars.net/Pic?s=13&dir=2003-4-17&p=a&f=8&t=58213&m=1083113&auth=PJ%20Steamboat) , it almost looks like a SWB rear.

Found another one!! There is an 8-page article on the same car in "Sports Car International", April 1991, showing it with 6 carbs. |

Gerald, Bonham's reported s/n 4519 sold at their RAF Hendon sale in February for 91,700 Pounds Sterling. Andrew, regarding the 275: I can see what you mean but suspect that the lack of rear bumper and shortened exhaust tips are what's causing the tail end to look shorter than normal. |

Apparently the 330 engine was left stock. The pictures only show it as having three Webers so it would (according to Ferrari) produce 300 hp. As to value . . . well in this country originality is the main interest and since this is no longer original it would be worth less than a 3-liter Lusso with its original motor. When it was offered at the Bonhams 24 Feb 2003 auction the estimate was 83,000 to 88,000 Pounds Sterling. I seem to recall that it did not sell. |

Andrew: The article I have says "The 4.0 litre for the car came from an extinct 330GTC and was left in standard tune save for the addition of six twin-choke 40DCN20 Daytona style carburetors." "No power or torque figures are available for the engine in Hoyle's car but as fitted to the 330GTC the output is 300bhp at 7000rpm." I have no idea as to the value relative to a stock Lusso. The car apparently came to England from Texas as a basket case. |

Lusso S/N 4519 was originally a 3-liter. It was fitted with the engine from 330 GT 2+2 S/N 6555, conversion allegedly done by Terry Hoyle. Chassis S/N 6555 was converted into a SWB Spyder California using 250 GTE engine S/N 4369, again by Terry Hoyle. It was for sale earlier this year at a Bonhams auction in England. |

Sorry Wayne for the late reply . About the Enzo Lusso , it was in french mag some years ago and the car was ,if i remember correctly , part of a Cali collection. About the one offered for sale , i saw it in the June issue of Classic & Sports car ( 288 GTO vs 959 btw ! ) , page 75 , Dealer called Brian Classic & Co . 1964 Ferrari 250 GT Lusso # 4519 Fitted with 4 ltr engine , restored by Terry Hoyle . Its Red without bumpers and has a rear air scoop like found on some 275 GTB's .. I'll try to scan it if u dont have the mag. |

Wayne: I have a magazine, "Car Classics", issue #1, from March 1992, with a cover story about Terry Hoyle's Lusso with a 4.0 litre engine conversion, and the "extra scoop". Is this the one you guys are talking about? |

Edit: Gerald, we were typing at the same time. Regardless, your response was better stated. Andrew, I'm assuming this isn't the car for sale? I'm really curious about that "extra scoop." |

There are TWO CARS that claim S/N 3097 SA. At first this one appears to be identical to a Lusso, however the wheelbase is approximately 2500 mm rather than the Lusso's 2400 mm & the body is a little bigger all the way around. Original owner claimed the car was built at the specific request of Enzo Ferrari, & that he bought it from Enzo while it was being completed. Definitely NOT a Lusso that has had a larger engine installed. For the story of this car see Cavallino No. 58 & Prancing Horse No. 94. Has also been claimed to be S/N 4715! Then there is the other S/N 3097 SA which appears in the Pininfarina records as a normal 400 SA Aerodinamica Coupe. Marcel Massini has PRA/ACI documents for this car. They show that 08 Mar 1962 a certificate of origin was issued; 13 Mar 1962 car was registered on Italian plates MO 74368; 14 Mar 1962 car was sold to Ferrari SpA, Maranello; 03 May 1963 car was sold to Commendatore Enzo Ferrari; 13 Sep 1963 it was OFFICIALLY SCRAPPED! But what is believed to have been this car later pops up as S/N 4031 SA! It only gets more complicated after this. |

As a newcomer in Ferrarichat this is my first post. Concerning the 4 litre Lusso issue, in my database I have a 400 Superamerica with VIN 3097SA that has a extended Lusso body that should be original. I add some pictures of the car.
