By the way, Jon, that car you are referring to is on e-bay. Watch it, because it wont bring $60k.

A user on this board that I met in Atlantic City just bought a Red/Tan 355 Spider for low $60's. The car ran great and had good paint. Only issues were 30k total miles and some interior problem with dash and roof mechanisim. I think that's a great deal if you do some of your own work.

I think there was someone else on this board who was looking at that car a few weeks back. It was questioned why the car had a new top and no records. I guess whoever was interested in it passed on it.

As far as the 30k, from what I understand, there's no way to check the tensioners without pulling the engine, so how do you verify it unless they tell you where it was done. If they can't don't assume it was done.

I think $59k is a bit high without records and proof of 30k. It seems you can buy a 12k mile one w/ records & history info for about the price of this one to $64k. I guess $53-55k is what this one is worth. Definitely do a ppi.

I think the exact fair market value is subjective, but 59K for a 348 with no service records, bought sight unseen is no bargin what so ever. Just my .02

PS. The 65K asking price that you reference is just that. An asking price.

Jon, you want another 348? If seriously considering the spyder, I would fly down to Atlanta and look at the car personally (in addition to a PPI). There are probably little things here and there about the car you can use to negotiate the price. Besides, you can just drive it back. The car is worth as much the dealership/owner is willing to part with it. But nothing wrong with a little negotiating. Who knows, they might (but unlikely) give it to you for $49k.

Only 49k. After doing alot of surfing, I cannot find a 348 under 65k.

I did run a carfax on the 348. The car came back clean with two previos owners. Looks like the first owner had the car until 2001. I am located in NJ am I crazy for buying a car like this sight unseen?

I agree with the other 2 posts. Get it checked mechanically first. Try to check the ownership of the car with the VIN number. FNA should be able to help or at least the Ferrari of Atlanta dealership. Good luck.

No original records is problematic already. At $59K you are paying nearly full pop, which should include a DOCUMENTED 30K service with belts, tensioners, and possibly even a water pump. I think you could do a bit better. On F-cars things add up quickly so beware. If the service was done, find out where. Often times the shop will verify/fax you the service invoice.

Later year Ferraris might be in the Ferrari North America computer system. Call with the VIN and they may know some history.

have the car checked out by the nearest Ferrari dealer to look for any problem areas. the price seems good. the resale w/o records could cause some problems but I would start keeping them with the Ferrari inspection. Also run the vin on carfax if you haven't already. Good luck

I am considering a 1994 348 spyder out of a nissan dealer in Atlanta. I believe they picked it up at an aution with no service records attached. The car has 29k miles and looks to be in good shape. Is 59,000 a good price, and what are the potential resale problem without the original service records. PS: They say it has a brand new top. Also says it has new clutch and 30k service done, but no records.
