This will not top Paul's story but some may be interested in it anyway. Back right before the LT5 Lotus ZR1 Corvette motor's production was halted in Stillwater OK, the plant had a ZR1 owners renunion. Knowing Ed Barton at Mercury Marine I asked his if he could get me a LT5 valve cover signed by all who assembled the motor. Fast foreward to the Corvette Museum's ground breaking event and with Zora being there and having the LT5 valve cover with me, I asked Zora to sign it. Zora's not Enzo but still special for Corvette enthusiast's. Knowing Zora's and Enzo's passion for sports cars maybe they are together reliving great racing moments. |

Hi Paul and others. I have had the pleasure of visiting Paul's home and have seen the note. It is very special. Paul has 1.5 tons of trophies and the whole room is super impressive. As Paul learned, Brenda is a treasure ! She was a major contributor to the Scuderia's success. For years, she washed and repaired drivers uniforms for them. No such thing as "not my job" around Maranello. MrC |

Paul, that's so totally awesome... It's nice to know that 'Brenda' was in keeping with the 'mystery' that shadows everything Enzo; even a cake recipe... That story rocks... i'm gonna print this out and hang it up on my wall, as a collector's item, of my own... Thanks for sharing... |

I know many of us collect models, literature, etc. ; but can you top this?...... In January 1988 I sent a birthday card to Enzo Ferrari. Of course, I did not know it would be his last. In June of that year I received an airmail envelope with the postage stamp indicating that it came from Ferrari in Italy. I had no idea what was in the envelope. To my surprise it was a thank you note from Mr. Ferrari, of course in Italian, thanking me for my good wishes and thoughtfulness. It was signed in his traditional purple ink. In August of that same year he passed away. Many years later I had the pleasure of meeting his personal secretary of 30+ years, Brenda Verner. She was staying with my close friend David Castelhano from Servizio for the week. I showed the card and envelope to her and she verified its authenticity. She said that Enzo appreciated getting cards like this and always took the time to respond. As a matter of fact, on the same day, Brenda baked for us Enzo's all time favorite cake. The recipe is the best kept secret. She would not give any details to the ingredients and was also very secretive as to the process of baking it. I can only tell you that it was a combination of chocolate and hazelnut. No one has the recipe! Believe me, we tried to get it. It may sound corny, but it was a very special experience to not only spend the day with Brenda but also eat Enzo's favorite cake. |
