Man, there have been so many RED Ferraris down through the history of the car nobody ever associated any other color with the name. BRGDS,

Well all the old Alfas in Scuderia Ferrari were red before the war. Then after the war the tipo 125 was red. I think red was the first.

Magoo,
Wasn't yellow the origional Ferrari color? (I'm not sure, can hue tell me.)

But, no surprise, I like black. But that's not a color, it's a hue. Hue know?

I think any Ferrari looks good in red. It is a great part of Ferraris history.

Martin, what's wrong with red on a 360? Red is the best color on a 360 in my opinion.

Resale red may not be as prominent as it was, but it is still the vast majority, and nearly everyone will buy a red Ferrari, where as many will not buy a {fill in color of choice}. Most of the people here are real Ferrari guys though so they are more prone to being different, etc and buying different colors. This is just my experience with the different types of owners I have met. For the record I will only buy red Ferraris with black interiors. It is my favorite. Although I will admit I saw a fly yellow 333sp the other day and that I would take in yellow over red, but that's an exception I would say. Yes I'm stereotypical, etc etc I know.

I think the current color that most closely approximates the deep red of the earlier racing Ferraris that Frank referenced is called Barchetta Red. Pretty sure it's an "out of range" color and so they may hit you for a little extra jack. But it's cool, I think.

Here's a little histoy about why most Ferraris are red these days. Full on Motor racing historians probly will know this anyway.

Back in the 20's to around the 50's, when it came to motorsport the teams from each country had their own colours no matter what car they raced.
Britain - Green
Germany - silver
France - Blue
Belgium - Yellow
Italy - Red
Most people raced cars from their own country, but if a team from Britain bought a Ferrari to race it would have been green.

My understanding of history is that Enzo only liked the race cars to be red and that customer GT cars and their like came in all other colours but rarely in red.
As Frank and others touched on Ferrari's really only became mass produced in red in the 70's and 80's
I've had my 308 repainted in NART Blue and it looks fantastic. I personally would try to buy any future Ferrari in a colour other than red if I can

Andrew that is a nice combo. the only problem in Fl. and other hot climates you burn up with black seats. I'm still partial to the red and saddle.

In addition to that I would say that yellow on a Ferrari runs a close second. To some, like Nika, Yellow is the only color. Other than those 2 I can't see any other colors that stand out as generally being accepted across the board.

There are certain colors that look right on certain cars such as red on a Ferrari seems to be always accepted IMO.

Thankfully, the newer cars seem to be getting away from the Resale Red syndrome. The 456 and 550 seem to have broken the mold, with the 360 following suit. Not that long ago most Ferrari's were Red or Yellow with a few silver and black cars thrown in for the fun of it. Now, we seem to have a plethora of great colors to choose from like the California Blue 360 shown on this site. I'll bet red is still the dominant color for the FX, though.

Red only became a popular color for Ferrari road cars in the 1980s. Magnum PI may have contributed to that. In the 1950s and 1960s blue and silver were the most popular colors for everything but race cars. And, even the race cars were a deep blood red not the fire engine red that is sprayed on modern Ferraris.

I think the varied opinions on color expressed in this thread goes to show that there will be plenty of buyers for almost any color combo you select.

I think you all would be a lot better off if you just bought what color turns you on, enjoy the car to its fullest and forget about resale.

The 360 probably looks best in Titanium or silver with a grey or black interior IMHO. Red doesnt do it justice. However, colour would make a big difference in the number of buyers when you come to selling the car.

Mike I agree with you except for the Vette a fast car. Red hasn't looked good on a Vette since the 60's IMO. Bad color choice on a Vette IMO.

White with a red interior is my favorite color on almost any car. Would you believe that you cannot get that combo on a Chrysler Sebring Convertible. You could on a Lebaron before Sebring but not now.

Sometimes, evaluating the look of these cars requires you to see them in a more natural perspective, rather than lined up in a row, ferrari after ferrari, as would you at a dealers or a concours event. I agree that the big cars look less good in red, and if you go back to the historic road cars, they were not often in that color. (I suspect the red thing really emerged in the 80's when virtually any ferrari was considered worthy of speculation, and hence, the concern about such things). Other than garish combos, the difference may be a few dollars, and whether you can unload the car quickly, but if its a straight car, this should not be a huge problem. (eg i had a white '89 328 gts, with a brite red interior, a few summers ago, and sold it for more than i paid for it, after putting several thousand miles on it. btw, the car was quite a looker, even though white is perhaps one of the worst "colors" for any car).

This is also a rare color combo:

355 fly yellow with tan leather instead of the popular black leather.

personally, i don't think red actually suits the 550 or the 456 very well at all. those are not 'look at me' cars, and tend to look better in conservative silver, anthracite, blue etc. i have seen a 550 in that color combo u mentioned first (silver/bordeaux) and it looked great. that 456 i wrote about last week, in anthracite w/ crema was another one of those i would not have thought of, but looked stunning.

I agree with BobD, the new models are great in most colors. I would go as far as to say the 360 looks better in any other color but red!

However retail value is a factor in the color. bordeaux int. is not the best seller! I would be very carefull.

The price of $ 175K is reasonable. I thionk though you could find another color combo for the same price. Not necessarily red though! Titanium is good with black or tan leather.

I personally think it's a more important factor on the older cars vs the 355 & newer... as long as the color on a newer car isn't repulsive.

When I was shopping for my 328 3+ yrs ago, I spoke with Brandon Lawrence from Cammisa Motorcars on the west coast. Brandon was involved in the 328 Buyers Guide story in Forza a few yrs ago. He said color was a huge resale factor on 308/328 cars.

He said the top 3 resale colors were:
red/tan
red/black
black/black

But I like most of the other colors too... I think titanium on the 360 is gorgeous.

As per market conditions that is a good price and you should have no problem selling with titan/B
combo.

To be safe Red on a Ferrari is the best selling color. I would say all other colors are more of preference colors wanted by an individual.

The car has Daytona seats, electric seats, bordeaux dash and steering wheel, black piping, shields, challenge grill, cd changer, red calipers. I'm not sure about the carpet, I haven't seen it yet.

$175K is an outstanding price for a delivery miles 2002 F1 coupe. It is essentially wholesale. Dealers will probably sell that car for $190-199K.
Won't resell as quick as red/tan. $163 sounds well optioned unless you are including luxo tax in the $163K figure. If it is Bourdeaux with black carpets, that might be better than Bourdeaux carpet (too monochromatic).Daytona seats a big plus. Perhaps you could list the exact options and interior color description. ie does it have Bourdeaux dash and steering wheel.

There are color combinations out there for everyone. Titanium / Bourdeaux sounds like a good combo. There will always be those who target the red/tan or the black/tan.

Buy the combination you like, not what someone else will like. I love going into the F-dealerships and seeing the unique combinations. I was at Ferrari of Washington a couple months back and they had a titanium / two-tone blue 355. While it may not be the most popular of combinations, it was killer for me.

I have the opportunity to buy a new US car 2002 F1 coupe for about $175K, MSRP is about $163K. The color is Titanium/Bourdeaux. I like the color, but the problem is I like to keep my cars under a year and will want to sell it at that time. Will this color combo cause me any problems at resale time? Is this a good price for the car?
Thanks.
