There's nothing crazy about it. I've been using my 328 as a mostly-daily driver on my 75 mile commute. There's nothing like firing it up to make a day better. It's been very reliable, with the exception of an electrical fire that didn't strand the car.

Maintenance is an issue, but you pay to play :-)

To me, the issue of daily driving a Ferrari is maintainence. 12k miles a year will be a lot more frequent belt changes than a weekend warrior. But if someone can afford it, I say go for it!

Ditto "THE DON". :-)
1st off "Its a car" If I can'not daily drive it.I don't want it.

The Ferrari is my little "vacation" each day that I look foward to as I enter and exit.In all things I travel to and from.

The stone chips in paint are incrimental as far underweigh the joy of the daily driver.Pay now or pay later.I'll pay "as I go" .I have a portfrolio to satisfy my saving for a rainy day theory.

Jeff,

I cannot disagree more.

I have been using a Ferrari for a daily for over a year and it's nothing but the best. I have another Ferrari that is my special car that I take out from time to time.

My .00002

In theory its a great idea, what a great way to start & end the day.

In reality the old saying "Eat Your Favorite Candy Everyday it Sux" comes to mind

The added stress from people following you, or checking out your car after parked causing scratches,or envious people vandalizing it, finding safe places to park, everyday issues of stone chips, road rash, door dings, potential
accidents, would soon take the fun out of it, unless you don't care what the cars paint & body condition is or having everyday wear on the interior, many times I am glad I am not driving my F car as I pass a large end dump truck thats spraying small rocks or other hazards

Many do drive their F car everyday, nothing wrong with that but the cars show it, driving
the Ferrari is more of a special event and
by not dealing with these issues everyday I appeciate it more when I do take it out

Sounds like a great idea. More power to ya. Better than letting it sit & becoming a garage queen, cars like that are the real problem children.

Congrats on the new 355

Rob,

i feel your pain. My 1993 Honda Del Sol SI VTEC with 55k miles total... in the past two years has had mjr service (timing belt, etc), new brakes all around, new front balls/parts/alignment and the BIG ONE was the nose screw in the crankshaft loosened. Thereby having the pulley attached to nose of crank chipping the Key in the nose and, yup, new crank needed to be installed.

So in total, 1993 Honda Del Sol worth $3.5k, had $4k of servicing in the past 2 years. So far the Ferrari is FAR cheaper to drive... and is my daily driver.

Ok, wanna laugh. Have the Etoile rims as normal and also the dreaded TRX tires/original rims in storage. THINKING of getting the TRX studded for winter driving here in New Hampshire. Don't laugh, i am serious. Ok, go ahead and laugh, but it is true.

Enjoy the Drive,

The more Ferrari owners I meet, the more I am surprised at their attitude about actually driving the cars.

My good friend that just purchased a 360 drove the car to Summit Point last weekend for the SVRA race. He left here in a driving rain and took his 300 mile 2003 360 all the way to Summit Point.

He said he met a couple of 360 owners at Summit and they were admonishing him for having the car out in the rain. One owner bragged of his 2000 model with only "900 miles on the clock". Stunned, my friend asked him why he was proud of spending $150k and never getting to enjoy his purchase.

After all, they are just cars. Special, yes, but driving is what they were designed for.

I know a gentleman that drives a Porsche 904 to work nearly every day. You don't come across many more valuable, or historically significant cars than a 904. They can be fixed, miles don't matter to true enthusiasts.

I'm keeping the 328. The '89 328 GTB I have is very nice, but not very comfortable as a daily. Tried it and it ran flawlessly, (it has never broken in the 5 years I've owned it- bought it with 5k miles, now have 19k miles). But the Louisiana summers are HOT!! and the a/c in '89 was still designed for Northern Italy.

The 355 should be easier as a daily.

I can't think of a better daily driver than a 355. I hope you have many miles of enjoyment! Being in the south, you guys have many more great driving days than us northern boys.

Sounds great!

I've used a Mondial 3.2 as a daily (except salted roads) for 4 years. Terrific Ferrari.

Have fun!

John: Bravo. Can't add much onto the comments already here. Drive her everyday; I know I would. You only live, here, once (unless you're a Buddhist) so make the best of it. Regards, Hubert.

Maybe you should sell the BMW, buy a 308 GT4 and use that as a daily driver. Or use the 328 as a daily driver. Either would be fun ;-)

My 10 year old BMW is costing me so much money I keep joking that I need another Ferrari before I go broke.

Car is only worth $7k. It's a great car and I drive the heck out of it. I'm second owner, it has 140k miles, had it on the dyno last year and it put out stock+ numbers. I love it, but I spent $1,400 on it two months ago and now my AC compressor is dying. My first quote was $2,600 and then I shopped around and found someone that would do everything for $1,200. Still expensive though, that's a 30k on a Ferrari! My 328 in 9k miles has been perfect, never left me stranded like the BMW. Once it ran on 4 cylinders for a few miles, but that was the only near stranded moment.

I would get either a 308 GTB or a Mondial and alternate as daily driver with the 328.

Drove the 328 800 miles this past weekend and it was great. So easy to drive and a blast too!

No way in hell you're crazy, John. If I could
I would, too, but I can't. I envy you.
BTW, just a thought (and none of my business), why not use your 328 as your daily driver instead?

Why is it that the trial lawyers use their 355s as daily drivers? I've got 34k on mine. they work just fine for that, but the repairs are a little costly.

Just wired funds for my second Ferrari, which I'm going to try to use as a daily driver. Its a 1999 355 Berlinetta, 6 spd, red/tan, perfect condition, 8k miles, tubi.

I'm going to try to use it as a daily driver. And I mean every day.

Anyone else doing this with a 355? Experiences?
