"Alternators are the second leading cause of depression" What an idiot I am. It is ECTASY is the 2nd leading cause of depression (in the 17-25 year old age group). However, among middle aged men like us, ALTERNATORS is in fact the 2nd leading cause of depression, followed by rock chips, door dings, and steep non-navigable driveways. Seriously though, don't stress. It takes the fun out of it. Hey if it is any consolation(sp), the VERY first time I took out my 1998 355 there was about 10 of my buddies taking turns riding shot gun. On the 3rd run 15 minutes total driving time in to it I saw a huge plume of blue smoke. I stopped and my car was pukeing out Shell Helix by the bucket (right onto the Cat!) I had blown an oil line from the resivor tank. How embarassing! Now I have that obnoxious brake sqeel at stop signs. I am pulling my wheels, and pads out to coat the backs of the pads with some "anti-sqeel" silcone crap this weekend. Best of luck. Cheers |

See what happens when you move to the 'dark side'? Your schwartz is just too strong and is drawing energy from the alternator. Seriously, cheer up and don't be depressed. I'm sure FoA will resolve this problem to your satisfaction. Don't worry, be happy! |

When I had those same symptoms on my ex-1994 348 Spider it turned out to be the grounding strap on the alternator and not the alternator itself. |

FoA DID arrange for the car to be picked up and the alt replaced with the Ferrari part. They have been wonderful since learning of the problem!!! The service was done at a mechanic in Greensboro that they contracted with. I ran the car for the first 50 or so miles very smoothly and it functioned fine. The light cam on when I was driving home from Hickory last night. (Could the lights do it??) I called the mechanic this morning and he is calling FoA to see what they say. The car is a 1994 Spider. The new Alt was a nippon something.. DrS |

>>>Alternators are the second leading cause of depression. Followed closely by, health, financial, and marital problems.<< LOL The lack of "The Essential Man" when owning a Ferrari is the greatest cause of depression I've seen, followed closely by buying the wrong car for too much money, and in 3rd, unrealistic expectations (ie: I now have a Ferrari, why do girls still not like me?:-() . |

one hopes that a qualified shop will be able to fix that right if it was in fact the alternator. |

If the battery was not FULLY charged ( on a charger) you can actually create enough of a draw/load that you will burn up the new alternator in the first 100 miles. |
