The speed box picture came from a Motor Trend article around the time the C5 Corvette came out. If memory serves, it was in a comparo of the C5 vs other high dollar machinery. All you saw was a blur of the back end of a C5 as it sailed past the speed box. What an awesome thing to do. I'll try and see if I can figure out what issue it was in. Unfortunately I don't have a scanner, but maybe someone here will have an issue in their collection?

Boy, if I could remember other things that I read as well as I remember car magazine articles.....

I gunned it past one in the country (I have no idea why it was there?) and it indicated 99 when I was 120sh. My daughter seems to get a kick out of whatch the numbers climb when we stop in front of one do a 0-100.

P Thomas -

Not an atty - "Signing is not an admission of guilt, only that you promise to appear in court."

John - Great Pix!

Carl - They are good for one thing..you can test the sensitivity of your radar detector. I've used them to compare Escort / Valentine / etc.

Art

This pic pops up every once in awhile on the various car forums. I believe that I picked it up a couple of years ago possibly from a Corvette forum(GASP!).

I know that I have seen it a few times here on F-Chat as well. Another user asked me if I had a higher resolution version of this pic, but I do not.

If anyone has a better version of this pic please email it to me or post a link!

Paul

I think it depends on the machine they are using because I too have seen some that do not go into triple digits(not like I would know from personal experience:-)).

John, I didn't know it went to 3 digits. Thanks funny.

Oops! The other posters were right about not signing. It is only a receipt of the ticket and if there is a refusal you can be arrested. Good Luck.

I think at least some people may think that they are photo radar. Perhaps some are?? I saw one in northern CA around Lake Shasta, looked just like the ones seen in residential neighborhoods. However, there were signs saying "photo radar in use".

Good one Paul! I see those machines, and think they're just a big toy. Try nailing the gas and see how fast I can get it to register me at! Funny how they do get people to slow down, no cop in sight, they put the thing out there to encourage obeying the speed limit, and people slam on the brakes when they go by it.

It would be funny if you did 165 and it showed you were at the legal limit!

Along the same subject, has anyone ever seen the speed limit machine that tells you how fast you are driving as you approach the machine? It helps control the speed limit. Anyway, my question is why don't they have the machine with 3 digits instead of just two digits?
Get it?

I was recently ticketed in WA. When they told me to sign, they *claimed* that it was only signifying receipt of the ticket, not to any admission of guilt.

FWIW, in OR, you don't sign.

I just wish that I didn't have first hand experience in this.

From my understanding, here in Fla. if you get pulled over and not sign the back of the ticket, the cops can arrest you on the spot..

When I got mine, I was doing 84mph on a 65 zone..
I signed my ticket with a big smile on my face.

Alex, totally true. I never signed the ticket. The Officer did.

Signing the ticket indicates you accepted the ticket, not necessarily agreeing that you were commiting the infraction. I would NOT call the PD, as they may try to somehow change it. I would go through the court system and show that the officer didn't do their job correctly, i.e. "Your Honor, if the officer can't issue a ticket correctly, how can he prove he can monitor speeding correctly?" I've seen a couple tickets dismissed this way.

Crusing, isn't that if the officer didn't sign it? I think it was Paul that didn't sign the ticket and not the officer.

That is a good thought. I'm not sure in California, but in Washington the citation is signed under penalty of perjury and is as good as an officer's live testimony. In Washington I would advise my client to check the box which says you are innocent and demand a hearing. Do not request the officer to be present. Then move to dismiss when the ticket is offered as evidence of your speed. Since it is not signed it does not escape an objection to hearsay. It would be dismissed in Washington. I would think something similar would work in California. Hopefully a California lawyer like Art355 will jump in. Good luck.

I would call the local police station and ask the question. I'll be the first to ask how fast were you going?

I got pulled over by the stinkin City Police yesterday. The cop was in such a hurry that I never signed the ticket. In California, is that trivial or can I actually get off the hook??
