LOL

Okay - let me set the record straight - those flames are magnetic they come off....were just put on for an article I'm writing.

It's a Frenchie....or French Bulldog and she's a doll - the other one is a German Shep mix - he doesn't come CLOSE to the cars! I can't believe you know one named "Enzo" - they are very rare.

I was singing (not any country song Magoo) and by far the car runs better than it ever has. The rubber piece that fits along the bottom of the door has come loose - so I don't blame them for not shutting the door and having the battery drain. I do have some special adhesive to fit that back in place.

Wow - it was a loooooong winter and I'm glad it's over!

Well - I have to go polish up the baby......

Thanks again to everyone

I'm guessing this problem has been solved already, but man, I left a valentine-1 plugged in my 456 some time ago and it killed the battery. I have a nice battery charger, so I thought, "no problem, I'll pump it up and be done". But oh no! As soon as you deliver charge to the battery (which is damn hard to get to) a horrendously shrill alarm goes off - how nice - from the alarm battery (!). After finally turning off the alarm (with the key), it charges up okay, but then a pin underneath the steering wheel has been engaged to prevent you from turning the wheel. (easy to take care of once you know about it), but man it added an hour to the beginning of the drive. Are the other newer model ferrari's as picky?

Nika, is that a Boston Terrier or a French Bulldog? One of my best friends, Chris Hill, has a French Bulldog named Enzo. Chris is my Ferrari tech. He is great, his dog Enzo stays by his side when he is at work keeping Ferrari's running down the road... Chris

hahahah - It's the calm before the storm here Tom - I have an annual meeting coming up soon so I will be working my tail feathers off soon.

To top it all off - I had an 11am appt. with my trainer - thought she could make me really work out hard hence I'd feel better after. Well - the gym is on the 36th floor of an office tower and the transformer blew this morning - the whole office tower is without power. No way to get up there...well, unless I took the stairs but that would probably KILL me.

I should of stayed in bed this morning!

Nika, yes it will. The yellow top is a marine grade battery. What is referred to as a "deep cycle" battery. These are excellent in a collector car that may sit for weeks without use. If the battery is drained it will recharge without damage. The red is for normal use. The orange is designated as a "starter" battery, big draw, like a diesel engine, but works well in a Ferrari as well... Chris

I have an Optima Orange top and it fits well. From what I've seen they're all pretty close in size. Ask them if they're comparable to the Orange size, if they know, because that will fit for sure. Orange is just reversed terminals, they didn't have the yellow or red (the one I wanted) so the orange is just one of these but backwards, and since the 308 you can put it in anyway I just turned it around and the cables still reached.

There's a place in Mississauga: East Penn Battery that sells them - Spoke with Jeff there and he was SUPER COOL. I just need to get the info from the battery to see which one it is. It's a bummer they are only open til 5pm.....and I'm downtown ALL DAY. The optimas run $190-$240Cdn. For that...Darn right I want Yellow!!

Jay - thanks for the offer - I have NO problem paying you for the help.....or I can donate to the "Buy Jay a 550 Fund".

F-chat is the best. Thank you for the advice and most of all for the cheer.

I don't think I mentioned this yesterday but I had planed to take the beast out for a long drive - takes a bunch of pictures for FC. As a joke I have some magnetic flames I was going to put on the car........I think that's why he didn't WANT to start! LOL

I was thinking I am going to try to take the battery out tonight and swing over to them. OR I think I have a Battery Pack - 12V starter that has 250 cranking amps of power.(means I have to dig in the basement to find it) Is this enough?....if I get it started I can drive it over to Canadian Tire and get the a new battery. OR I may just ask a local teenage car-nut if he want's to make $100 for switching my battery for me.

Nika, Crappy Tire (Canadian Tire) will check your battery for you for free and tell you if it is toast if you bring it in to them. They will also give you money back for your old battery when you buy a new one. This just happened to me on the work van and I replaced it with a Motomaster...no complaints and it has a 5 year warranty. It cost me under $100 Canadian after the rebate for the old one. Hope this helps!

I just replaced battery in my 308 after long Colorado winter, takes a group size 34, I bought a SUV rated battery (more amps, crnaking power etc.).

Your symptoms sound like a highly discharged battery, with just enough juice to light up gauges but not enough to crank starter. At some point in a battery's life it can no longer be re-charged but must be laid to rest...

Good luck!

I'll make it up to you, optima red top - where ever they sell interstate batteries - cost you 90-120 USD but worth it.

the red goes with your shoes - they do make a yellow top though - good color coordination - search optima in archives for more info

Nika makes mental note: TomD has shoe fetish and is mean

I think that's the case.

Pardon my ignorance on the subject, (yes I'm a girl that does NOT know everything).....Any particular brand I should look for? Just hop over to the local car parts place or should I swing by the dealer?

Anyone in the Toronto area that you can recommend to help?

Why do I refer to my 308 as a him? Because he's moody, temperamental, stubborn, takes all my money, probably cheated on me with a Fiat.......and after just one minute of him purring to me on the highway I'm like putty in the driver's seat. That's why. :o)

But he is DEAD this morning. NO CHARGE! Just a whine and click - no start up. So I have a few options: my charger may not be the best - old 6v-12v model so I can go get a better one. I can beg a friend to help me push him out of the garage and jump him (the car not the friend) or I can just swing by an automotive place (any suggestions?) and buy a new battery and then kill myself trying to install it.

(sigh) This really bites

Sounds like a good plan, this way you both can get juiced up.
I'm enjoying a nice glass of California Merlot, from Carmel,CA, as I type.

If you check around maybe you can find one of those Optima batteries for, aaaaaaaaaaaa ,,,,,,,,,,, ahem, "Him."

Again, why do you refer to the 308 as Him? (ha ha)

I just went to check on him and I do think a new battery is in my future. I say that because I don't want to take the chance of being stuck somewhere.

Thank you everyone - I'll let you know how the charge worked in the morning. I wasn't sure if I could leave it charging all night

......right now I'm going to pour myself a glass of wine and hope things are better tomorrow.

Thanks again

Nika,
Sounds like your door lights ran down your battery.
For $20.00 at radio shack or K-Mart, they are open late, you can get a digital multimeter. This will tell you if you have the correct 12-13 volts in your battery. (verses the 10 volts, that means you have a dead cell.) Test your battery with one lead of the battery charger disconnected.

Note; A discharged battery will be full of explosive hydrogen Gas, be careful! Unplug the charger from the wall before you connect or dissconnect it from the battery poles.
Also, make sure that your posts and cable clamps are clean of any deposits. ( This can rob your system from a few extra amps.)
Careful again, Wear glasses or goggles while you clean these. You can also get a slick round wire brush tool from your local auto shop cheep.

Leave the charger on trickle all night. If this doesn't do the trick, get a new battery. Jump starting can be dangerous. Be sure to make your last connection to a suitable metal ground under the bonnet. Again, to keep sparks away from the battery and the H2 gas. (It is usually to the engine block, but of corse, your block is in the back.)

It is called jump starting. But, it would be better to call it jump charging. Let your jeep run at about 2k RPM for a good 20 min prior to trying. This will give your battery a good flash charge from your jeeps alternator.

Good luck,

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooo Jay - you are nasty! Yes clutch in

It's clicking - and just now it tried to start - I think my battery charger is slow to get the juice to the battery....and well I may be a tad impatient tonight (being the first nice day)

The car is in the garage nose first and the Jeep is outside - my cables are about 4 ft too short.

If by chance tomorrow it won't start I'll grab a new battery - I think the worse part was getting to the battery so changing it should be a breeze.....I mean I can only break 9 more nails right? I can probably push it out tomorrow...if you saw the way the driveway is set up you'd be amazed that I can get the Cherokee and Ferrari in there.

Bret - thanks - I was so pessimistic to what it could be.....it's nice to know I was on the right track.

I don't know about the 308's but does the clutch have to be in, in order for it to start? Tomorrow is supposed to be nice, I hope you get it started. If not, I'll come down and help you push it out of the garage :-) In exchange for a ride in the car. I'm off tomorrow so let me know!

I'm assuming the solenoid is clicking if the red lights on the dash are coming on so you are probably getting good contacts. I would venture to guess the battery is the culprit. Try jump starting it off the jeep.

He was delivered back today - when I went to the garage the passenger door was open a bit - oooops - might mean the battery low. But I've had it on the charger for a while now and still the same.

turn key - red lights on that whine and then NOTHING CLick.....

Am I missing something? Positive to positive - checked connection and bettery cables - could it be something else???

*PANIC*
