Why would you buy tires from a Ferrari dealer anyway? Ernesto |

I for one would not want to be going through a corner at 150 MPH with cracks in a my low profile tires. |

Thanks for the responses. I'll check the date. I figure if it's due to a pre-mature deterioration of the rubber, Pirelli should replace the tires. If it's due to the tires having been stored too long, then the dealer should pay. I guess I'll have to pay if it's caused by usage or bad storage. A tyre salesman told me that it is not uncommon for tyres to show signs of cracking and that provided these cracks are not deep, the tires are fine to use. I'm not convinced by that. Any thoughts? |

I'm just going through the process of changing the tyres on my ex-storage queen car, they are the original tyres from production 11 years old! Funny thing is they don't show any signs of cracking, so I'd say that aint necessarilly a direct indication of age within the nearest say 5/6 years, more an indication of storage conditions. |

there is a mandatory manufacturing date code on each tire - verify this with Pirelli to check your assumptions how old the tires are |

I bought 4 new Pirelli P Zero tyres for my F355 from the Ferrari dealer in November 2001. I had a slow puncture the other day and in the process of fixing it, found cracks down the side of both my front tyres. There're about 5 or 6 small cracks on each tyre (each measuring about 0.5 to 1cm). My mechanic (not from the dealer) told me that the tyre pattern for the front tyres is at least 7 years old and that those tyres probably sat at the dealership for a number of years (probably under extreme heat given the weather in Hong Kong). It is likely that the cracks are caused by the ageing of the rubber (there is no other logical explanation for it). I intend to make a claim against the dealer on the basis that the tyres were too old to be of satisfactory quality when sold. Can someone offer some insight as to how quickly rubber on tyres crack and whether it is reasonable to expect the dealer to replace my front tyres for free. Thanks. |
