The 80s produced the worst era of cars due to the changing emissions and fuel mileage requirements but also led to where we are now with the best quality and driveability I have ever seen with 100,000 miles without any major repairs becoming the norm rather the exception. From a mechanical viewpoint having been there in the trenches through the 60s to today I would have to pick the Nissan 280z as the best all around sports car from the 80s. The Japanese with their quality control cause us to open our eyes to the changing technology. If anyone is looking for a new car and have not even considered an American car, you may need to take a closer look. We are making some great cars now. |

288 GTO F40 ('90-'92 U.S.) Testarossa (as a classic 80's design. That is, if the 80's is ever to be revered as an era of classic design). Porsche 959 Buick GN/T-Type/GNX ZR-1 Vette Callaway Vette Ford Escort RS Rally Car |

Funny how this topic came us in discussion about 10 days ago in my circle of car nuts. On that thought isn't the 308 a 70's car? as I scratch my head to recall what we picked, we were talking more generally even about certain special editions, not just for their beauty (or lack thereof), just for their rarity etc. (to add to the list already begun) - Renault R5/LeCar Audi Quattro Coupe Ford Mustang SVO (or Turbo Coupe) BMW 6 Series Buick Regatta Caddilac Allante' (designed by Pininfarina) Chevy Camaro IROC Ferrari Testarossa Ferrari 288 GTO Ferrari F40 DeLorean DMC-12 Chrysler TC (by Maserati) Chevy Corvette ('82 Limited Edition) Merkur XR4ti Pontiac Fiero Pontiac 2+2 P-Car 928 (the 8cyl. ones), 924, 944, 959 Shelby GLH-S Lamborghini Countach there were more...but that's a start.. -Ben |

I'll start with the Ferrari 308 and 328. Can not think of an American made car? |

The 80's were hard on car companys. Can you look another 20 years out and name the few cars that will be highly collected? The 60's and 70's have a long list but the 80's is a ? |
