If you know what kind of car it is you are expected to have an idea what they go for. The only time I noticed when I get asked a price is when the person asking doesn't know what kind of car it is, and unfortunately there are a lot of challenged minded people where I live (dumb people) that is. For those who ask and know what kind of car it is, they only ask to see if they found a chaper price than what you paid for it, unfortunately in this world there are a lot of people out there that are jealous people and like to put you down and I get my hands full of jackasses like them every once in a while. I'll usually try to ingnore them because I understand they were born ill fated but further sh** talking then they will pay dearly, I don't stand for sh** talking. Don't ask me a wrong question at first like how much you paid for it? you can start off with better questions before you start asking for a price. Why ask if you aren't buying etc. etc. you can find your answers in many ways than asking unneccessary personal questions. |

Taek-Ho, No hard feelings. I am just pleading for slightly more understanding for those who are not fortunate enough to own a Ferrari, but yet cute enough to ask the foresaken question. |

KCCK, It has nothing to do with Ferraris. How much something costs is rude in just about all settings. Car, house, watch, etc. Cheers |

All these resentment about the simple question : "How much does your car cost?" But if you drive around in a Ferrari, that is one of the most common questions that you are going to expect. It comes with the car. Be as rude in your answer as you can be, the question will keeping coming back. People are not trying to deliberately rude to you. They are just being naturally curious. Who drives around in a Ferrari in the first place? What is rude might not be in the questioner. What is rude, perhaps, might be in the snotty response itself.

This is certainly not the most often asked question, but it's a funny one. Not long ago, I was stopped at a light and an old, tired VW bug was behind me with 2 young guys. One got out and ran up to my window. "Sir, can I ask you what year your car is?" "89" "Dam!" and he ran back, evidently losing the bet. Dave |

Following happened a few years ago with my previous 78 308 GTS (red/tan)in a Schuck's Auto Suppy parking lot. Two rather sloppily dressed characters unshaven, torn t-shirts and ball caps in beat up old Dodge Colt. Driver: "Hey that ain't real is it, it's one of them replicas, right?" Me: "Gee, yeah, ya got me, it's a Fiero!" Driver: (as he punches his buddy in the shoulder) "See, I told you!" they have a good laugh, presumably at my expense and drive off.....

Modman, my comment was meant as a joke about Allan, the Lambo mosquito, and not a comment on the many fine Lambo owners in the world, some of which reside here. |

That's one of the advantages of the "classic" 308 look is that no one thinks it's a mustang or lambo or anything else. Everyone KNOWS it's a Ferrari at first glance.

Modman, don't bother. I tried what you're trying in a previous Lambo thread and it got me nowhere but in hot water. The ones who know better (most) won't bother posting because it really isn't worth the effort. "that is sterotyping like most non owners, not knowing the facts is gonna put you in your place" thou speaketh the truth. The BMC lambo salesman said to a manager over at Bentley Silicon Valley: "Don't let the clothes fool you. The gentleman just sold his Murcielago." I'm all about comfort. Also, the Ferrari stereotype is not exactly a nice one either. At least in Europe the 3X8 is known as the "hairdresser" Ferrari; which we all know is rubbish... Cheers |

One of the problems of owning a GT4: "Is that a Mustang?"
Jokes aside, the next most popular question is "What year is it?" and every single person was amazed when I replied "1975". They honestly believed it was new. |

"The biggest egomaniacs are Lambo gate crashers" Ken(Allyn) are you sure of your remark? that is sterotyping like most non owners, not knowing the facts is gonna put you in your place. Experience is part of life in which everyone has their place in, some have more some have few. When it comes to cars I started out with what I could afford and wanted, then I wanted to experience more of it of what I could afford of course and now with a Diablo it was what I've always wanted to experience since my younger years, the 2 cars were Ferrari and Lambo. I feel fortunate to have been able to get there and it definately was not an ego thing for me as if you see me you would know for sure as many who know me can tell you that. I dress up in what's comfortable for me "jeans and shirt, sport shoes, not into jewelry, etc. etc., no one would ever expect me to own anything expensive, in fact I'd probably look poor to some as I am a hard working person who work for things I love. I don't drive much as I work too much but when I'm in the mood I choose the car I feel like driving. I live for me not for anyone else. Also what do you mean "gate crashers" mine shifts smoother than my 348 did. Anyway I'm not a one type of car person as I like many cars, I'm not a Lambo person or Ferrari person or anycar person, I like the best of what I can afford to get. I understand that there are some who have ego problems but not everyone does.Hope this puts some understanding. |

What age is the car? Which is not a bad question, it still amazes me how good looking this 20 year old 308 is. I mean compare this car to any 20 year old one and you can tell instantly the difference (unless it is another exotic of course). |

Had several people tell me nice Lambo when they see me get out of the 355, I just smile and say thank you, even though I'm mad on the inside. I too hate when people ask me how much I paid for my car. If you see a total stranger wearing an italian made suit, will you walk up to them and say, how much did that suit cost you? |

The question I get on almost every drive a take is "What kind of car is that?" I am always suprised that people aren't familiar with the Ferrari badges and shields that all over the car. |

Most layperson see a Ferrari and automatically think 100K. They do not know an F-50 from a 308 from a kit car. They make litle side bets with their wives and friends prior to them asking you so they can demonstrate their "knowledge". I have seen it both ways: Charles says he loves enlightening people how afordable the car really is (SUV analogy). Others (as evidenced in other threads) do not correct them when the person sees their 308 and says "yeah that is a 100K car." They play on it in an elusive manner. They also claim to some what like it. Again, no generalizations, just observation. If you do not fall in to either catagory (or even if you do for that matter), there is no harm and no foul. |

Phillip I agree some people are just private and don't like answering those sort of questions. I was only trying to direct my argument at those people that are arogant about thier cars. If you recall I said "This may not apply to all Ferrari owners so don't take offense if your not one of them. Otherwise if the shoe fits!" Sorry if I have offended you in any way. |

Vince, there are several companies on the net that sell them. It is really all about how much space you have. The only reason I drive my car every day is I can't afford to have it just as a toy. Your right about the people that don't ask. I actually think it is a good idea to dispell some of the myths about these cars. That is why I don't mind answering questions about it. |

Charles..........you lost me on your last thread....what are you talking about? projecting Arrogance...whay I said you said.....re-read yours and P-Thomas's thread...you said, "most Ferrari owners are just ego-maniacs that want people to think they're cars are more expensive....." PThomas said...."he agrees with that statement, but it only applies to 3x8 owners"" My response was that no matter what item it is concerning, asking prices is rude......also my other point is that it has no bearing if you own a 3x8 or a 550........ I'm not projecting anything anywhere and there is no arrogance here..........I just don't think people who don't want to answer personal questions are ego maniacs, I just think they are private people |

After being followed for several miles into a gas station or restaurant ,most often they first compliment my ride, and then simply ask where I purchased a Ferrari in Dallastown PA.Know doubt all these questions and more do come with the territory when living in a small town. The personal questions associated with my toys can definitly be a bit trying at times as I enjoy the hell out of my 512& I buy my toys for my sporting pleasure not for others perception. |

Phillip don't try to project your arogance on me. I don't want people to think my car is expensive, I want them to think I got it for less than thiers. It is much more fun than them thinking I am just another stuck up Ferrari owner with to much money to play with! I'll say it again, if this applies to you oh well, if not then don't worry about it! |
