I'll definitly do that. I'm waiting on a friend that's going with me to get back from Afghanistan so I'm not sure the exact date but I know it will be a weekend. Maybe the 20-22 of June. I'll get with you soon and see what we can work out. Thanks again

Matt,
Quit dreaming and start saving. 308's and Mondials are great cars, and within just about anybody's reach. Just need to start saving those nickels...It will happen, trust me. Set the goal and start working to it.

That's how it worked for me. 78 308 GTS was my first, and now I have traded up to a 87 328 GTS. Next will be a 355.

Matt Lemus is one of the most awesome people i've never met... i'm so looking forward to meeting him and Byron and JL and Ron and so many others...

Matt, if you rent a Sentra, keep in mind that it has special "flying" capabilities; i'll explain more when we're out there... :-)

& if anyone's up for partying, it's me... :-)

LOL Deal! I'm going to New Orleans at the end of June so I'll scout the place out. Are you up for some partying those nights? I don't know whose going with me yet so I'll probably need a copilot. Maybe I'll rent a Sentra....look out New Orleans here we come!lol

Let me know what you think of California when you go. I have a younger brother living in Carlsbad that tells me all these stories about Ferrari's and Lamborghini's and he really doesn't realize the potential car spotting he has. I told Matt LeMus I might be out that way near the end of July and asked if anyhting was going on. He said not at the time but he might plan something around when I was there. Now that's a great guy. Keep me posted.

I think you are not giving yourself enough credit hear as usual. You seem to have a pretty good amount of knowledge maybe not as far as mechanics go but you seem to have a pretty big brain when it comes to designs and stuff...plus you have a pretty good reference collection with your models. As for the ride I cannot accept it mainly because I just can't justify taking that experience away from anyone. My day will come I'm sure and I'll be perfectly content just to get to see all kinds of Ferrari's in person.

Matt: You are in Pensacola, Florida? I know my F-car is not the tops, but hey, it's all I could afford. I too have adored these cars from afar for many years, and now that I'm older (we won't say how much, hee, hee) I was fortunate enough to be able to acquire this beautiful piece of art!

I played with hotwheels as a child and one of my favorite Matchbox cars was an old Ferrari. If you should ever want to hear a V8, I would be more than happy to bring it by. My car is original, no TUBI exhaust, but she still sounds wonderful!

Matt, your offer is very generous, thank you - i just might need a ride...! :-)

After over 2 decaDES of never even getting to SIT in a Ferrari, my luck with cars (at least the ones that other people own) has been incredible... My very first ride in a Ferrari, EVER, was in a 550 - if that's not awesome, i don't know what is... Fate followed that up a week later with a ride in a Lotus so milked out, it would've scared the crap out of anything else on the road; along with a 355, a Testarossa and i actually got to drive an NSX...

It also seems like the entire state of California is welcoming me in July - what more could i possibly ask for... Matt Lemus is practically forcing me to drive his car while i'm there - who's luckier than me...? i've been extremely fortunate these last few months and i'd be a moron to keep that to myself... Your feelings with cars strike such a chord in me, i totally know exactly how you feel... It would be awesome to see you in that Enzo... Please reconsider.

i had the pleasure of speaking with Brian Salig (sorry Brian, if i'm imposing here) on the phone last night... At 16, he knows more about cars than i could ever hope to know; far more mature at his age than anyone else i've ever known... Very nice guy and it was a pleasure speaking with him... His enthusiasm, knowledge and passion for cars is so refreshing after so many years of never knowing anyone who felt like i did... i hope to soon meet him and i'm definitely looking forward to meeting you, in October... FerrariChat and the majority of its members has been awesome to me and the way of the Ferrari community is to share and encourage enthusiasm... That makes perfect sense to me.

Um... as far as technical knowledge is concerned... Are you sure you have the right DES...? i'm lucky to be able to identify a carburater when i see one... We'll just write down the stuff we don't understand and ask FerrariChat to translate it when we get back... :-)

DES,
THERE IS NO WAY I WILL ACCEPT THAT!!! Believe me I would love to ride in one but if anyone here deserves that it's you! John if you read this forget anything he says. Des deserves that ride far more than me or anyone and he is making one hell of a trip. I will be more than happy to just sit by and observe. Des your a great guy truly but I cannot accept that. Thanks anyway and hopefully we can hang out while you are there. You have a little more knowledge about them so hopefully when the talk get technical you can translate:-) If your flying in I'll have my car so if you need a ride somewhere let me know.

Matt, you're right, i'm very fortunate... i've had a lot of really intense, totally positive experiences, all at the hands of people who were initially, total strangers...

In seeing how that works, if John Houghtaling will allow me, i'd like to forfeit my ride in the Enzo and give it to you... No one understands what driving and riding in exotica does for me; like you said, you and i seem to see eye to eye on most everything Ferrari and it's sort of weird to read your posts and not KNOW how you feel, but FEEL how you feel... Good fortune is nothing if you don't know how to share it... Let me ask John and see what he says... hopefully there shouldn't be any problem at all.

Dave I will definitly be there without a doubt. I actually had to go to New Orleans on Monday to drop off my brother at the airport. I drove around for a while looking to see a Ferrari or what not but I had no luck. I had never got to drive around there and have to admit that is one beautiful town. The only thing I wonder about is you guys on those roads. Even in my rental car the bumps in the roads were killing me. Does anyone know where the actual party and such will be? I was driving around Clairmont street. Man they got some nice homes over there. I figured if it is anywhere in New Orleans it will be near there. I'll definitly bring that steak:-) Hope to see you there.

DES,
That's so funny you say that. We both found this website around the same time and I remember thinking man there goes all my time. Finally a place to chat with Fcar enthusiast and meet some actual owners. I figured I was about to be an F1 veteran in no time. Then you came along and pretty much say pretty much word for word how I feel about the cars. Out of everyone here I think I see eye to eye with you on Ferrari. I don't have the finger power to keep up with you but it's good to know someone out there feels the same way. You are a little more fortunate living in Long Island where you can swing by and glance at a dealership or meet up for a ride.

Something that you can feel my pain on....I've never heard a Ferrari engine in person....ever. Now imagine how many times a day you hear on here about how great a Tubi sounds on a 360 or how a V-12 is music to your ears. I can only sit here at work everday and wonder. I'm sure you feel my pain:-) However I have decided to quit all my whining, pack my bags and get the hell out of town to try to experience these cars in person. I know you got the personal invitation to New Orleans (congratulations) and I hope to see you there. When you get your ride in the Enzo I'll be cheering for ya buddy in the name of all who want one.

Awesome story, i hope you get your own (or i win the lottery) really soon...

I would have rather met the owner than chatted with those girls. I wanted to see if he was a member here. I have not had any chance to make it to any meets and the closest one I know of will be in October for John W's party. I planned on driving over and watching from the sidelines and if anyone is going let me know. I'm always interested in meeting anyone here. Thanks

Amen WHart!

A bargain indeed.

I think the owner would've sympathized if he walked in on the "action". If anything because you weren't an arrogant bastard about it.

Cheers

It does sound like a good Coors commercial. I was in shock when I noticed they thought I owned it. I thought she was kidding but continued to answer there questions waiting on them to start laughing or something. Honestly I don't want a Ferrari for the pick up factor though it is a plus. I hope to get a 360 someday but that 355 still had that exotic look I want. That car stood out from every other car in the parking lot.

Isn't 100 grand a reasonable price for that kind of joy? And just think, for the price, you get to drive it, too!
(And, it doesn't even have to be that expensive, as in: 308/328;348 spyder;355 berlinetta; boxer; testarossa, etc.)

That's a funny story, Matt... but truth be told, that sort of thing sounds more like a Coors commercial than in real life. haha... Looks like you were in exactly the right place at the right time. Hopefully, next time, you will be able to sit down at the bar next to those girls and place your keys to your own F355 on the bar and watch them really freak out. haha!

Tom, that was exactly what I figured was going to happen. I actually wanted to meet the owner and have a chat with him but didn't want him creeped out by me sitting there waiting on him. I went inside and used the bathroom and when I sat down by the window he was gone. I'll run into him eventually somewhere down the line. Pictures don't do a Ferrari justice. You really need to see them in person.

Some of you may have heard me complaining about living in my town and not having any too many Fcars or any other real exotics around. I have seen a 360 a year ago out by the beach and you do catch the occasional Viper cruising by. There is a black Diablo somewhere around here that I spotted way back but I never hear about and I figure is gone. A guy on here does have a nice TR but again I only catch glimpses.

So last night was one of those extremely rare moments when I can actually take a second to check out a Ferrari. I was meeting my friends at a resteraunt for some dinner. I rolled into the parking lot and there sat a yellow 355 sitting parked along the curb. I got this weird feeling in my stomach like a kid pulling up to Disney World as I parked.

I didn't want to scare the guy who I figured was inside keeping an eye on it so I pulled the old "stop and tie my shoe trick". I'm leaned over checking out the car when these two girls and a guy walk by. The guy looks at me and ask "What kind of car is that"? My mind is sitting there saying "Are you serious? Come on man! This is a work of art. How do you not know? You cannot seriously go through life and not catch this car in a magazine or somewhere and simply pass by it. How can you not know about FERRARI!

I simply replied Ferrari 355 to him. It just so happened that I happened to have on my red Ferrari shirt on with the prancing horse emblem. The girl glanced down at my shirt and then to the emblem on the hood and says to me "Is it fast"? Right then it clicked to me. These people think I own this thing :-). Hell yes it's fast I replied! She says "You must love it"? Well I do love these cars so again I said yes fighting back a laugh. The guy asked me the top speed? I told him I had no idea but I figured about 160-170mph. Was I right guys? Well they walked around it a few times as I sat there wondering if they were going to ask for a ride. The two girls were making a bigger deal over it then the guy was. I just stood there checking it out myself. Finally they started to go inside. The girl turns to me and says "Nice car". I simply smiled and nodded.

After enjoying the moment of standing in the presence of this amazing machine I decided all good things must come to an end so I sadly strolled inside dreaming to myself about someday owning a Ferrari. As I passed by the bar I noticed the two girls were sitting there with a large group of friends. One of the girls from outside saw me and began whispering to her friends and they all turned and waved to me. Man you owners are lucky people.
