There's bodyguard driving school...

Those are fun. I sat in the sidelines on one of the road sessions in Asia. I think they have them in the U.S. They teach you how to do performance driving in a stretch hahaha. More realistically they also sit you down in an M5 and do all sorts of funky street stuff. Including driving fast with flat tires!

Cheers

Porsche, BMW, and many other groups run high performance driving events designed to take people from the "I've driven on the street" catagory to "I'm an accomplished road circuit driver" in several stages, with instruction continuously along the way. I suggest that you attend several of these in order to make full use out of a Skip Barber-level school.

The major reason to do these introductory event first is that the first 10 hours of (actual) track time is so intense that your mind doesn't have enough extra capacity to be able to watch you mirrors while slithering around a turn with the tail hanging out. After a few days (like 6-10) at the track, you will find that extra memtal capacity and be able to drive the snot out of the car, with the tail hanging out, watching the mirrors, and waving at the flag stands. At this point, you are finally ready to get out of a real school what they are ready to put into you!

My opinion is that you gain the most driving your own car. Go to a PCA driver education class for starters. Or some other school where you use your own car.

My wife likes to remind me that even though I have attended numerous racing events, watched countless hours of racing on television, and played with the coolest hot wheels growing up, this does not make me a great driver! I am in total agreement with her and I feel that in order to enjoy my car I need to get the proper training. I seen several threads that racing schools were discussed, but I am interested in the various street driving courses that are offered on the West Coast. At the moment I am considering the following; Skip Barber day1/day 2 driving school at Laguna Seca, Performance Driving Clinic at Buttonwillow, (either)Jim Russel Highway Survival Course or High Performance Course at Sonoma Raceway, (either)Fast Lane Highway Survival Course or Defensive driving course at Willow Springs. Has anyone attended onw of these classes and what was your impression?
