Not really too much Jack.

Although there is a lot to their line up, Porsche has fed off of it's success in retaining the basic principles they feel make them a good automaker. This includes things from a design perspective. Differentiating convertibles and four wheel drive models is in my opinion a bit of overlap. I consider them the same car.

In my eyes, Porsche is Carrera GT, GT1, GT2, GT3, 996, and Boxster. And the new addition of the Cayenne. If you notice, the Turbo model in the coupes falls under 996, and the Turbo Cayenne obviously under Cayenne.

Cheers

The other thing hurting the 911, IMO, is that it's offered in 8 variations. Why so many?

I would take a 993 over a boxster. IMO better styling, more power and could get one at a similar and in some cases cheaper price.

had a yellow 99 boxt 3 yrs prior to 348 spider and never had a problem through many track days and daily driver use. great entry level sports car to learn on. true its very common sight in some areas but thats cause its good.

"The Boxster is a much better car than the 911"

I hope this was a joke of some kind...

The Boxster is killing the 911. The Boxster is a much better car than the 911. Production numbers are important except in Ferrari.

Never drive less than 12.

Mitch: consider that you've got more power AND wider tires, then again most people gain 1-3 seconds going from street to R compounds; sounds like the group you ran w/ really didn't know how to drive.

As my good friend Steve Jenkins is often quoted:

"Porsches suck, Ferraris Rule!"

"Woohoo, I'm coocoo for coco puffs!"

Okay it's funnier when he does it... :-)

I'm sure Boxters are great cars. I was just disappointed with the final body design compared to the concept. I thought that every bit that gave it an exotic-looking flair was left off of the production model.

Yeah, I'm curious about that, too, Mitch. My best there on street tires in the M3 is 1:28.xx. I can run mid 1:29's all day long. Haven't done it with R-compounds there in the M3 yet.

Mitch, sounds like those Boxsters were particularly poorly driven...and you are also a good, smooth driver in a very well-sorted car that has a 180 HP advantage. 3 seconds at that track is a lot. As usual, some (Boxster) drivers spent a lot of $$$ on bling (R compounds) before learning how to drive; others (like Mitch) learn to drive first!

Hey Mitch,
Was that a PCA event? At MSR, what lap times are you running with your 355 on S03's?

I owned a 98 boxster. It was the first new Porsche I'd owned. Steering feel is good, very comfortable for long rides and surprisingly roomy trunk. That's all the nice things I can think to say about it. Likely the most boring sportscar I ever owned. Six months later I traded it for an M Roadster and never missed it.

i would easily waive my rights to bear children, to own a Porsche - even a Boxster...! :-)

Of course, we all know that the only way to go, if you're gonna buy a Porsche, is to buy the 962 CR or the Carrera GT... :-)

Slopenose Audi?

Not really.

I don't think there's anything particularly wrong with them. As mentioned in this thread they do handle real well. They're a fun tossable car. Just don't expect to win any races of any form with the car. The S might get you into competitive territory, but if you want to really get the Porsche experience you have to go with the 996 (don't know about the Cayenne since I've never driven it...Rijk?).

You can get some of the air cooled 993s for the price of some of these Boxsters. A much better choice if you ask me.

Cheers

"what's wrong with the porsche boxster?"

Well, for one thing, the "look" like Porsche Boxters!!!!!

Last weekend at MSR, I was running my F355B on S03s. There were 3 boxters there all running Kumho v700 or victoracer v700s. I was 3 seconds a lap faster on street tires than the boxters.

I had one. The new "S" is a nice car. The older ones are a little underpowered. They handle great though!!

Be careful of rear main seal leaks! This goes for all Porsches! There's no official recall, but they are constantly changing engines.

I hate the Boxter. It looks great, handles great, is affordable and very reliable. What the hell kind of a car is that???? ;>)

The husband of a girl that works for me went to his first 'Porsche Club' event last week. He doesn't have a Porsche, he just likes cars. He was totally disgusted, said it was 75% women and none of them wanted to talk about cars!

Guys,
I know it's not a ferrari, but what's wrong with the porsche boxster? It seems like a fun car to have.
