Vincent..This is an FAA approved event. There will be three plane races. If you are the only FCar that shows up, you get three runs. The events start around noon to 3:00PM. I can arrange for your car to be locked overnight in the main hanger of the field AMP (its huge). He stays there overnight with his family and camper in front of his hanger. I can pick you up and drive you to a local hotel in the beautiful historic town of Sonora and dinner at my girlfriends cafe (how am I doing so far?)....Its just a hell of a fun day!....Ps: One of the events is a flour drop. Guys fly the pattern and drop a 5 pound bag of flour at 100 feet to hit a circle on the runway. The event judge stands in the circle! No one has ever hit it! Its a riot to watch!

Vincent...Its 4670 x 75 ft. / 1423 x 23 m, plenty ong! The plane will be on final above stall, about 75 knots. After the first third of the runway, the race starts!

If you want to make this fun, I knew folks that used to drag race corvettes with T-6s and P-51 Mustangs from a standing start - first to the end of the runway wins.
THAT would be interesting - the Piper on the runway and the car on the parallel.

In all seriousness, (my last post was in jest :-) sounds like a lot of FUN!

Be careful not to run out of runway/road :-)

If I wasn an owner (instead of just a wanabee) I'd be game! One of these days!

Best!
Ben.

Dave..The plane will not enter final at full airspeed (The Malibu can cruise at about 180Knots). It will pace the car over the first third of the runway. I assume the Malibu will turn about 125Knots down the last two thirds of the runway.

Just how fast does this plane fly? Wouldn't it be extremely hard to time it so the plane and car were somewhat travelling together? After all, the car apparently has to start from a dead stop, get up to some max speed as the plane flies over, then stop in time before the runway ends, right?

Just curious... :-)

I invited anyone who was interested in racing a Piper Malibu down the runway on June 14th in Columbia,CA (Near Sonora,CA) and came up empty! The Piper will be at about 75-100' above the runway. This is the Fathers Day Fly-In and is a great event! There will be three Car/Plane races in the afternoon. The event has been FAA approved (The FAA will control the airport from 12:00 to 3:00PM that day). Sonora is 2 hours from the Bay Area,CA. Interested? Send me an email at [email protected] and I will put you in touch direct with the event director:-)
