Back in 1988 PC (pre child) the family daily drivers consisted of my 308GTB and my wife's 308GT/4. She drove the car for a little over a year until one day on the way home from work a valve head decided to divorce it's stem. We got her an M5 to drive while the GT/4s engine was being rebuilt and she never went back the GT/4.

My wife also has an aversion to Europas but her's extends to anything Loti. I had a progression of Loti and each one was as unreliable as the one before it. The Europa had a fuel crossover go while we were sitting at a stoplight. The person next to us noted we were leaking something and when I checked it out gas was running everywhere. We were quite lucky that we didn't catch on fire. That was her last ride in the Europa. When the Turbo Esprit has a similar problem she vowed never to set foot in another Lotus. I'm not sure I blame her.

I wish my wife would drive my Europa but she calls it a "wretched little car". Yet she drives her Odyssey like an F 1 car!

Well, when I still had my GTB, I was very reluctant to let any man drive her! He had to know how to push my buttons, before I would let him slip into the drivers seat of my Ferrari!

Lol Allen, great pic!

Alex- make that BOTH hands broken so you have to drive with your elbows, then maybe :-)

Get her a F355 F1 and then you can swap cars every other day! :-)

Best!
Ben.

That's the factory finish on the SV, the "SV" is vinyl and can be removed. But I wouldn't, it's an SV! A special Lambo indeeed. I think it looks very cool in white.

Great picture bro... looks like my your wife and mine share the same genetics. lol!

Jens, thanks!

Sarah spun on her own oil when her Chevy engine blew. Methinks Jim G. nailed it right on the head regarding why the domestic engines keep crapping out in US open wheel racing... Sarah & Danika & many other women are supremely talented drivers. One day soon, one of them will get great equipment & school a whole bunch of fellas...

Allan, great picture. I believe my wife would react the same way, telling me that I am "number one" in her book.

Now, about that bling-bling pimpadelic paint job of yours...

Jack, my wife and I were at a party about a month ago. She know's I'm very protective of the car and everyone (in our group of friends) is always joking that they are "going to take the keys and run". I heard the keys jingling at the dinner party and noticed my wife getting into the drivers seat (she never wanted to take it out by herself). She came back after a 20 minute drive, with a friend in the passenger seat feeling liberated...She loved it.

And yes, there is nothing sexier than (A) a woman - your wife driving the Ferrari and (B) watching a woman swing a golf club.

Do I need therapy or is there something cool about letting your wife drive the family exotic while you ride shotgun. Its like "yeah, its my car and my wife, so eat your heart out!"

Dave,

Great pic! The car looks gorgeous in silver and your wife is obviously also beautiful. A good combination! :-)

Allan,

Funny picture! But why white? I mean the car! :-)

I waited a a long time to get my 575 and when it arrived my wife asked if it could be driven it 'auto' mode. I answered "Sure, if you have to limp home and someone broke your hand"

Anyway a few weeks after the car arrived she announced that she was going to take the car out on her daily chore run (nails, hair etc).
And, she claimed quite correctly, it was half hers anyway in a community property state. So off she went while I cringed in the garage doorway.
"I could really get used to this!" she exclaimed upon her return. "It's so easy to drive".
I could actually feel the vibrations from Enzo spinning half a world away!

Coming back (almost) to the original topic: I never quite understood why there aren't more women in the big leagues of auto racing.

Ok, there is a glass ceiling for sure (it takes a lot of cash to race), but still: Of all the physical sports, this one IMHO should give women more of an equal playing field as it less about raw muscle power (although some is needed) and more about technique.

If I'm not mistaken (although I'm not totally sure on this), the last woman in a F1 race dates back to 1980 at Brands Watch (sorry, forgot her name, but do remember she drove a Williams Clone).

Hopefully we'll see more of Sarah, but I'd really like to see more women in racing period. Imagine, the Chippendales would have to carry their grid numbers, hehe.

Hijacking this thread only slightly: For the first time since the IRL/CART split did I watch the race as this time they had a bunch of really great names in it, not 'just' some IRL unknowns. The race itself, yeah, wasn't the greatest. Personally I would have loved to see Scheckter take the win, but 4th is pretty darn good too. Hope he finds his way into F1 one day.

Appreciate the non delivery of liver. My poor car has enough issues to deal with as it is. Amongst them a driver who still practices his Magnum PI power slide off the grass strip.

Whew - I won;t have to put raw liver in your car now Andreas!

I can't say that I found this year's 500 race to be anything special. (YAWN)

Oh, no offense Nika. There is a reason I put a sad face to my comment. I would have loved to see Sarah make it to the end.

I watched her actually drive the Mc Laren a year ago at Indy as well.

As far as doing a few laps myself: Been there, done that. Well, ok not at her speed...Drove a F1 on a road course and a CART replicar on an oval. I know it is hard and that's why I admire all these drivers.

Nika
It's a sad day when the American engines did so poorly at Indy. I don't think GM realizes what it takes to compete today. The ghosts of gasoline alley would turn in their graves if they knew that the drivers drinking the milk were going to be powered by Toyota...

Sarah Fisher's engine blew .....she handled that without killing herself or others.....

I would of loved to see you do a "few laps"

I'd let my girlfriend drive my 308, but she doesn't drive stick. C'mon 250 HP is really not that much of a big deal. Sarah Fisher can handle more than that...at least for a few laps.

My problem is really that I've always been a bad passenger, regardless of who is driving. Although it's cool that she's comfortable driving it around the city. Ryan's right. If I saw her driving it around, I'd chase her down all over again!

Oh, way to go Jack! Your wrek'en it for all of us!!!...hehe..Just kidding! I'd like to get my girlfriend to drive my 308, but using the parking brake in certain uphill/stopped situations gets her nervous. I also agree with Ryan.

I remember a while back the topic about who lets their wife/girlfriend drive their FCar. I actually convinced my wife to drive mine, and I've opened up a Pandora's box. Now, she not only wants to go for rides all the time, she wants to DRIVE! Nobody to blame but myself, I guess.
