Greg
I just traded my 96 F355B, having owned it for 7 years. It has 8K miles and I had the 15,000 service done before I let it go. It comprised of fluid changes and most importantly, living in Arizona, a thorough check of all hoses and rubber bits. The A/C was also gone over with new freon added. Some people change timing belts after 5 years, but this was a bigger problem with 308/328 series cars and the 355 should be able to wait until 30,000 if it is used regularly. The service cost was around $1,000 and the car runs beautifully. I enjoyed the car immensely and I recommend it for anyone who wants a real exotic car with unbelievable performance, but hardly any problems to speak of. My only problem in all the years I had it was a CD player that sometimes didn't work (and that was an aftermarket piece !)

Greg, I am far from the expert on this board but I understand that the mileage is just one factor for the major service intervals. There is a time factor as well and I have heard that you should get the belts changed at an interval of no more than 5 years. If I was buying a 4 year old car that had not had the belts changed I would get the 30 k service right away and then be worry free for quite a while.

the first major (engine-out) on a 355 is 30K or five years.

conservatively, if you assume $2,000 per year in maintenance costs that'll cover you on the non-major years with an accumulated $5K available for the major every fifth year.

my experience has been more like $500 a year, not $1000, outside the major, but it's pretty easy to rack costs up if something goes awry.

no clue if or how the F1 flavors the service costs.

good luck with the search.

doody.

Greg, I am in the process of looking for a 355 as well. I have owned many cars both foreign and domestic and I collect 60's muscle cars. A 15K service in my mind is a glorified oil change and will not be that expensive. The 30K on the other hand will run about 6K+. Ferrari's are much closer to pure race cars than anything I have ever driven and as such, they will require a lot more maintenace (and its not cheap!!) The NSX is a great car, but I think the overall experience of driving a 355 or any Ferrari for that matter is second to none.... The NSX is virtually maintenance free, the 355 will not be...

Good Luck

I am considering a 99 F355 F1 with appox 8k miles. I have read the Forza article of a few years ago and it lists a major service at 15k miles. Can anyone tell me what is performed at this service? I was under the impression that the first major was 30K miles.

Additionally, I have had a heavily modified NSX for several years and has been reliable beyond belief. Since this is my first F-car purchase what is the realty of annual service costs? If there is anything specfic that I should be looking for please let me know. Thanks in advance.
