Well, all has gone as good as possible. The other driver has admitted fault, State Farm issued a check, and they authorized additional money if necessary. Goes in next week.

Jack, please keep us updated. Most dummies are nice people, they just don't know how to properly operate an automobile. Regardless, he still caused you unwanted stress. For that, I share your frustration. Oh and in addition to the disposable camera, I'm going to get one of those mini surveillence cameras mainly as a deterrent whenever my car is out of sight (been reading the 'spit on' thread and feel vulnerable).

Funny how on the mark all of you are! It was an SUV, all right. The first thing I thought about was the kid comment. This guy wasn't a jerk or anything, just oblivious. The street I was on is one of those stretches where there's a stop sign every corner, so it wasn't like I sped up on him. I'm sure it was the kind of move he makes every day, rolling out while making a quick sideways glance, never really intending to stop.

Dr. Ken, the ironic thing about the camera idea is that I was thinking of the exact same idea a couple days ago. I took pictures as soon as I got home and emailed them along with the details to my agent. See what happens...

Sorry to hear and see that Jack. It almost happened to me last fall (after I had mine for about a week). Some people coming out of the side alleys just don't look or worse, stop to see before driving out. I was able to avoid the vehicle and afterwards was thinking how could that have happened? My only answer was, she didn't see me because my car is so low. It might sound stupid, but there is some truth to it: When they come speeding out of the narrow alleys in Chicago, they don't see us behind the row of parked vehicles.

Ever since I drive *very* slowly past these alleys. You just never know.

But don't worry too much, Vic will take good care of you. Hope to see you soon again.

So sorry to see this type of preventable thing happen..

I completely agree with Dr. Ken, what if they were small children playing.. No excuse..

I wish I was there just to see his face at the point of contact..

I would like to add that all Ferrari owners should keep a disposable (one with flash) camera in their cars in case something like this (god forbid) happens. The camera will come in handy documenting damages, dummy driver, car positions, witnesses...etc.

Damn Jack, from the pics does not look real bad but even a small chip drives me nuts, hope it gets fixed soon. Time to lay on the horn at blind intersections.

He did not see you because he was not paying attention to what he was doing. Barring mechanical failure, there is no excuse for hitting anyone or anything. Sorry about your damage.

sorry to hear, I do find especially with all the suv's that people don't see ferraris sitting so low, I tend to drive with my headlights on more to increase visability

Sorry to see your nice car hit.
From the looks of it, his car isn't very high. What was he driving? He is paying for the repair I gather.

I feel sorry for you Jack and at the same time angry for you. Was the dummy driving a SUV or he simply didn't look back while backing? Saying that your car is too low is a BS excuse. What if instead of your car little kids were playing? The guy is just plain STUPID and reckless. And unfortunally there are too many stupid people out there, and sometimes it is unavoidable to meet a few. Seeing the damage on your car just makes me angry. Make sure you get the best repair shop. Don't let this bother you too much. I hope the dummy learns a valuable lesson and gets what he deserves for putting you through this.

Thanks Rob. Naturally, I just got it back from the shop last week, and spent a few hours yesterday on a "spring cleaning". I think it'll pound out, but not so sure the scuffs will all buff out.

Very sorry, I know the sinking feeling when this happens, no matter that you know it will be fixed right, it still sucks.

Well, it finally happened. A guy pulled out of an alley without stopping today and hit me. I was able to stop and veer a little, lessening the damage, but needless to say I'm not too happy. He said he didn't see me--"The car's so low!" I kept my mouth shut.
