We had a problem in the neighborhood not too long ago - someone was driving across peoples' lawns in the middle of the night. Not just driving I should say, but FLOORING their car through peoples' front lawns. It was all over the neighborhood. I stay up pretty much all night and one night returning from the local convenience store, I see this silver Ford pickup driving suspiciously slow. I decide to watch him after I pass by and - lo and behold - this guy does a fishtail on someone's lawn. I swung the car around and chased him. For some unknown reason, his truck died on one of the lawns he was driving over. He couldn't get it started and I drove by with the windows down laughing at them pretty loud. They were pretty frantic to get the truck started but I called the cops and they took good care of these punks. The police said they damaged about 100 lawns. Not Ferrari related, but chalk one up for the good guys.

We had our car (non ferrari) keyed in the past. A horrible experience. If I saw someone do that to my car I would not be able to control myself. That person would regret the action for the rest of his/her life.

A couple of years ago a gang was vandalising cars on the parking lot. I called the cops. They asked - "are any person in immediate danger". I responded "no but they are trashing cars on the parking lot". The police - "well, if noone get hurts, we wont come. We have more importat things to do".

Can you believe that!! Living in sweden is a f***ing hell. Every policeman is trying to catch speeders, but for real crime, which does not generate quick income, they do not care. The police force in Sweden is said to be the most ineffective in the entire world.

After three phone calls and almost 40 minutes (since they still were on the scene), I said to the police on the phone that Im taking the law in my own hands. "If you dont show up within five minutes, Im going out with my baseball bat". Three minutes later the police came. And you know what they did? They took one of the person to interegation (one of five) and let the rest go off drunk in a stolen vehicle. I couldnt believe it. The swedish police force is a total joke!

I was driving in slow traffic in my Mondial and 2 guys drove past in a pickup and threw a handful of pennies at me (fortunately no damage was done).

Last weekend I parked my yellow hummer H2 in a mall lot, when I came out someone had thrown bananna peels on it (again luckily no damage).

It's a same that people want to destroy what they don't have.

When a person keys your car, pisses in your car, "Don't worry, be Happy!"? like the song says. There is a difference in an accidental occurance and a purposely done malicious act, there really is...

A couple of years ago, I was driving around looking for a parking spot near my downtown apartment when I saw a group of two girls and one guy walking past a 308 parked on the street. I was more focused on the 308 than the girls, but they came up to the [308] for what I thought was a closer look. Then they giggled a bit and one of the girls whacked the car pretty hard with her purse. I couldn't believe it. These were not "punks" or down-and-out types, but relatively attractive, well-dresses young people. I'm certain that the girl hit it with her purse as an expression of pure spite - probably to impress her friends.

I was pissed. Unfortunately, I still hadn't found a parking space, but I followed them to the general vicinity of their destination - a pedestrian mall. I finally parked, and checked the 308 for damage. Seeing no obvious dent or scratch (it was dark, though, and I regret not checking more thoroughly), I decided not to track the vandals.

About a year later, my black X5 was keyed from stem to stern, right down through the primer, two blocks from the Ferrari incident. I was obviously livid, but then I thought of the 308 owner, and the fact that I didn't exercise more diligence in discovering the [308] vandal's identity.

Please, if you ever see anyone vandalizing any car, report them to the police immediately. I regret not doing this in the past, and it seems kharma caught up with me. Also, don't assume that a certain "type" of person would do such a thing - any exterior can hide a nasty interior.

Perhaps I'm more fatalistic than most, but i think that the best course of action is to take a deep breath and move on.

I personally think the only things to get really angry about would be and hurt to family, friends and things with emotional value (irreplaceable pictures etc).

A car is a car, much as it is a prized possession. My view is park it anywhere, use it often and drive in the rain. If someone scratches it then my comfort is in the fact that they directing their energies uselessly and are pretty unlikely to join the ranks of Ferrari onwers. They can live with their jealosy and I get my car resprayed.

I've posted previously about the fact that the US is much different in this regard to the UK where I've had a number of cars keyed.

I'm with Spyder - enjoy the car and don't live in fear.

Dan

PS Not sure I'd feel the same if I owned a 250 GTO - I might be living in it with a baseball bat :-)

(Arizonaguy) why would you want to do that? kinda pointless if you think about it and why the hell would I want to harm someone for a post it, I get all kinds of solicit ads on my cars every once in a while when I go shopping but what am I supposed to do? But vandalizing a car? that's going to the danger zone. You could drive my car and wreck it accidentally, Oh well, it's an accident, but vandalizing on base of jealousy, that's wrong... please don't ask me an obvious question like that but if you want to vandal my car you can leave me a post it of your address but believe me you don't want to do that, just make sure if you do something like that make sure the car is burned to the ground or make sure I don't see the car again, it's better that way.

my sympathies allan. i have had my fair share of similar behavior over the years - spitting, cigarette butts, drinks, keying etcetc. and not just in ferraris, but virtually every car i have ever owned from a lowly mg on up, and in nearly every place i have lived with the sole exception of switzerland - which might be the last place on earth (along with monaco and singapore) where you can safely leave an open top car alone for more than 5 minutes without fear.

jealousy is one of the worst things that we have to endure from those 'less well off' (read too lazy to get their asses in gear).

i would refrain from any violence because although it may be momentarily satisfying, it will get you in more trouble than the perp, so not worth it in the end. the only way to deal with the more egregious instances is to have some sort of camera on hand to 'capture the moment' so that when you go to the cops or isnurance companies, you have some sort of proof.

for the small stuff, vent on this forum or to friends, work on the punching bag in the gym etc, but then get over it. life is already too short to lose time and expend negative emotion over the actions of a moron. just think of it this way; after you clean up your car, you are still the owner of some nice vehicles, a nice house, wife and family etc, and the other guy is still the loser that he started the day as.

Allan:

That is so unfair. You are fortunate to
get off as easy as you did. Disgusting
pig ! At least they kept the keyes in
their pocket. My motorcycle was keyed
in one spot.

I saw as a young boy a R.R. that was
severly keyed on both sides. What
an *** to do that to someones car.
I will never forget that. I still
remember the color of the R.R.

I have come to an obvious conclusion
that everyone here will agree with.
The cars that cost the most, will draw
the more unwanted attention. Nobody
will key your unwashed Corolla. Drive
a beater everyday. I told my wife we
need to find a car sitter. It sounds
crazy; but it is going to happen sooner
or later. Dr S. Do you know any young
girls who might want to sit a car ?

I should be able to leave the top off 'my' F355 Spider, keys in the ignition (hell, motor running.) and $100grand in cash on the front seat, with no problems.

That's friggin horrible Allan, the level of disrespect and vile human waste is just astounding. It's almost funny, pop culture would have you belive wealthy people are all evil materialistic assholes. Yet I have encountered more prejudice, savagrey, mallice and just EVIL from people who claim to live withought such 'evils of money' or the self-proclaimed 'downtroden'. I'm phraseing it lousily, but suffice to say the hipocricy alone floors me. (and I'm hardly mr moneybags :P)

What the HELL exactly is wrong with driving an F355, enjoying decent wine, loving your family, etc?

"Let us LIVE, every day of our life" -Jonothan Swift.

Hrm, F355 Ferrari - $150,000.

local constubitary parking permit sticker - $100 to fake

<powderless,> .223REM rounds tossed on passanger seat, along with some AR-15 magazines. - $150

Kevlar Level III vest in passanger footwell "POLLICE" on back in large, visable letters. - $1,000

NEVER having to worry about your car getting fscked with, by anyone, anywhere, ever. - PRICELESS!

Allan, that is about as looserish as anyone can get. Sorry to hear it happend but at least there was no damage. I sometimes take one of my cars there for a quick Starbucks but that is usually before the mall opens.

It reminds me of the time a friend of mine surprised me and picked me up in his new Porsche Turbo. He wanted to go out for a bit so we went into this club for only about 10 minutes. When we came out it was pissed on, keyed, and the door mirror was broken. It was the first day he had the car. I felt so bad for him. I always said if I ever saw anybody doing that to anyones car I would just start beating the out of them.

He did not damage. He was careful.

Sad.

I'm sorry to hear about what happended to your cars. It's a known fact that when the economy is the way it is now, there's somewhat of a greater backlash against those haves from the have nots in the world. Many people are frustrated now and I can see where some of the animosity comes from. I certainly do not condone this. People should just deal with their own problems and not take their frustrations out on others who may be a little more fortunate.

Ok - now that I got that out of the way I personally think you're nuts for leaving the top/windows down in your car while unattended. I would never, ever do such a thing. I'm so paranoid that I had a 5 minute rule with my NSX - if I can't see the car for more than 5 minutes - I go outside and check on it. I trust no one.

Remember - windows up, doors locked, top up and alarm ON. You'll be glad you did this, trust me.

Syrup in the car? piss in the car? what? those people want to get some part of their body cut off or crushed with a hammer? I dare someone to do such a PU**Y A** thing cause I WILL hammer a hand without a thought of mercy, hey they are lucky that I'm not a killer but I would create a lifetime rememberance guaranteed. I've had such people pay for their bad doings and I'd do it again, I really hope not to ever see this happen to me because I can't control my anger and I really lose it. I'm not hearing any more of this vandal discussion cause it's piss**g me off to hear such gutless acts done by some jealous sewage waste. Put a cam in your car and catch the damn fa**ot and hope you find the person and get rid of such filth of this earth.

Once in a while somebody reports some of this stuff, I guess so far I haven't had such experiences(yet?) the only bad thing I can remember is having a screw on one of my tires(really got screwed there) but it didn't go flat it stayed there found out on a pre-track inspection. Likewise last week I was cruising minding my own business when this guy on a black mercedes went whacko he would speed then wait then switch lanes and do that several times, I just kept a grim on my face and ignore the silly guy ... then some ricer tries the same thing finally I think the guy in the mercedes realized how bad he lost it he cooled down.

Jealousy is the sign of incompetence.

My advice is to stay away from public places unless it is visible by you.

William, this is Arizona, not many teens go to the mall in the summer since most of the ones in Scottsdale you have to walk outside, especially Paradise Valley Mall... But they do have mist systems outside. Me being a teen(14) in Arziona I hate going to the mall during the summer, the movies are allright thought! just my 0.2. I think that mall security should be raised, Allan, have you complained to the mall? I'm not sure about that mall, but here were have parking lot security at superstition springs mall...try them.Yet again, just my 0.2.

Yep, there are some real classy folks out there. If your going to a "MAUL" (sorry, you couldn't get me in one) it's summer time so thats where most kids hang out or live. Blame it on the parents, Im sure they wouldn't mind paying for repairs. If you got nice auto, regardless if its a Ferrari, someone going to mess with it. I'm sure it's happening to the BLING BLING SUV crowd too. Sorry to hear Alan, sounds like you got off lucky compared to everyone else.

The fact is expression of wealth = jealously.

It is sad, as I doubt 99% of the time a owner is actually 'showing off' or being 'flashy' and is simply trying to enjoy his/her (in many cased prized) posession(s).

A motto to live by: "Prosper Quitely".

Sadly it's hard when you love a car that turns heads to degrees that can't be humanly possible.

Sorry but I'm with Andrew on the cats. Cat owners are responsible for the action of their cats. Otherwise don't have them. But I wouldn't run them over either, that does seem kind of cruel. I'm sure there are other methods (just kidding). Best to just put a cover on if you plan on keeping your job.

Sorry to hear about that, Allan.

My first year at school I spent at Georgia Tech in Atlanta. While out riding around in my '83 Datsun, I came up behind a limo. Then suddenly an old pickup with a couple of punks in the back pulled up beside the limo and the punks in the back of the pickup gave the finger to the limo. Without having the first thought of who they were or why they were out or whatever. Just the display of money spent/displayed pissed these guys off. I had never witnessed such unreasonable anger and hatred and prejudice, such open hostility toward wealth period, no questions asked. Such ignorance and disrespect.

My only thought would be to remember that thieves and especially vandals are much worse off, in their hearts and minds, than those they victimize.

Still, man would I be pissed! Glad no damage.

I know that this topic raises the hair on the back of some people's necks. I am one of them. It is the outright disrespect for another person's property that really pushes my buttons. Unfortunately it is not just these 15 year old punks every time.

With the advent of these tiny little cameras, you see grown individuals that are respected in their communities doing some really strange and crazy things.

It sometimes truly boggles the mind.

It was probably some stupid 13-15 year old jackass. I would love to see someone doing that to my car, or any car for that matter. I think it would be great to tackle them, kick them in the ribs/torso a few times, then plant drugs on them and call the cops. "officer, this man planted drugs on me, i swear." you think they'd believe that?

Andrew,
Have to agree with Faisal, don't blame the cat or the owner. Cats can't be trained and will do what they will. Your M3 should be garaged anyway. You can't kill every cat in the neighborhood, and if anyone sees you, you will go to jail. How do I know? Cause a "wacked out" friend of a friend tried to take things into his own hands and killed a cat and spent 3 months in jail; and deservedly so!

That caning incident was in Singapore, the teen was 18. It even sparked interest in making caning a punishment here(in the US).

If any politicians on the group decide to run for any position in government and would be willing to support this, you've got my vote.

If I caught someone vandalizing my car I'd do everything in my power to destroy their life. Vandals and thieves are two things that I passionately detest.

In various Asian Countries, if you steal you get your hand amputated. Anyone remeber 7-10 years ago a 17 year old american boy was caught spray painting grafetti on a wall in China (I think it was China). Anywho, after he was jailed, he was canned in public. The sentence fits the crime IMHO. We have become so darn laxed so criminals continually work the system. Nothing is too good for these pieces of sh.. "An eye for an eye" is the best remdy.

Andrew,
to want to kill an animal because it left scratch marks is cruel and wrong, no matter how much you like (or love) your car. That is completely different from humans intentionally vandalizing your property.

It's unfortunate that you work there, but can't you park outside the property? Or cover your car while it's parked there?

Faisal.

My office is at my bosss house. He has several cats (with claws) that roam around the property and tend to wonder onto my car leaving scratches as they hop on and off (not an F-car but a respectable M3).

After confronting him about the cats his response was "Thats what animals do the wonder around!!!!!!!!!" (end of discussion) What the f**k!

I don't understand the mentality of some people! If my boss doesn't take care of the problem I may have to do something about it myself. I just hope they stay out of my path when I'm coming up and down the driveway!!

I know its not the same, but I am two weeks away from finishing my Classic Range Rover's three year cosmetic restoration, as I want to bring it to MOT for British Car Day. I took it for a spin last friday night and drove by the local park and BANG!!!!!!!!!!!!!! some punk kid hiding in the park nails my passenger door with a rock. Thank God its not too severely damaged, but if he had been 6 inches higher, it would've come through the window and sent shards of glass into my younger brother's face. I hate people who get off on trashing other people's cars whether its a Ford or a Ferrari it's just not right.

That's too bad.

When I first got my F355 as a daily driver,
I had my valve stem caps stolen.

Then a month later, someone put crazy glue in my drivers side key hole.

After that, I bought a Dodge Neon econo box to get around in and keep the fcar for the weekends.

Allan... I know exactly how you felt.

I recently had my car parked at a restaurant, I ate outside with my wife and it was in plain view across the street. The only time I wasn't looking at it was when I went to the bathroom. When we left, I got in the car, and noticed my hands stuck to the shifter and the steering wheel. I smelled my hands, it was pancake syrup. Some no good piece of human garbage doused the whole interior of my 348 with the crap. As I drove home with my hands sticking to everything, my wife was silent. Me? I was inventing new cuss words, and discussing ways I would have maimed the individual who performed the act if I caught them.

When people like this meet a beautiful woman, do they haul off and punch them in the face? Who are these people? And why won't the SARS virus just prey on them?

Maybe there should be a legal fund for guys like Allan and I in the event we do catch the vandals. And Jim's spider... a kicked in windshield? Ugh!

Sorry for the harshness. But I didn't enjoy spending like 12 hours cleaning the syrup from my interior... the gauges, the console, the carpets, the switchgear... grrrrrrrrr.....

And it's happened 3 times to my Corvette, my Seville... they were both keyed, and the Vette had a hole bashed in the rear fender when it was a week old. Ok, sorry for rambling. Sore subject. You know you work hard to have nice things.... ok, I better look at Terry's '69 Daytona pics again to put me back in a good mood.

These low life cocroaches only do this crap (ie keying) when there is no one around. Someone in this thread used the verbiage "young punks".

Regretablly, it covers not only a specific cross section, but truly ALL walks of life.

That my friend is the REALLY sad commenatry on some of these instigators.

If is unfortunate to hear this, so far I've not had any incident like this except when a couple of hicks on the freeway sprayed windshield spray in front on me on purpose but they got paid back when I got one of the vehicles license plate and had it tracked down by CHP (my buddy) and I took care of business (can't say what I did) but as I said before if you screw with the wrong guy YOU WILL GET FU**KED! and I don't mean it any mildly. I won't tolerate Bull*hit as it is something I can't control my temper on. I never leave my windows or top down and leave it unattended in a parking lot because this world is full of rats and not enough traps.

I wonder if those little surveillence cameras would work (you know, the $79 popup you always see)? They claim to have a battery that would last several hours!? And that might be enough for a trip to the mall or dinner. If nothing else it might be a good deterrent. Any inputs?

Last year just after I got my 328, I was driving back from Cape Cod with medium to heavy traffic. Most of the cars gave me the thumbs up, but one car in the right lane had 4 college age guys in it. They speed up past me, having a good look, then they rolled down their windows and spat in my direction and laughed!!!

One of them even flicked his cigarette at me!!! I couldn't believe it. I was so mad I wanted to ram them off the road. Good thing I don't carry a gun with me.

Allan, that is sick. I am really sorry. It would have been so satisfying to catch them in the act, eh?

I have a friend here in Austin who also has a 550, but in that very rare metallic black. It is his daily driver (except when it rains hard)!! Anyway, one day he left work early & took his son to a daytime movie matinee. When they came out, the whole passenger side of the car had been heavily keyed right down to the aluminum--from the right headlight to the right tail light. Now, THOSE are the cocksuckers I would have loved to help him catch!!

Pat, it was at Desert Ridge. The mall is known for having a large amount of PUNKS hanging out, so it will be the last time the car will be parked out there. I have taken cars to malls plenty of times, and have never had a problem, even with the Lamborghini.

On the spitting on the car while someones in it issue, your a smarter man than i, because life as the person knew it, would have come to an end.

Just admit it Ernesto, i know it was you.

Ferraris bring out emotions in people. Some are good, some are bad. I've had other drivers give thumbs up. Some others gave the finger. Fortunately, the thumbs up outnumber the other by far.

It really sickens me when I hear these stories. We love our cars and it shows in the way we keep them up. Many people appreciate the F-Car's beauty, others, well, they have their own issues.

Sorry to hear about that. I had a similar experience with a group of Latino punks in the mall parking lot. I was in the car and fortunately had a very nice young lady as a passenger. I say fortunately because without the passenger I'd have likely done something stupid.

Two weeks ago I had a similar experience except it was the windshield of my spyder that someone took their frustrations out on. I've had the spitting, and even an ice cream cone thrown on my Fcars thats nothing new, but when someone steps on your hood actually leaves a footprint but thankfully no dent and breaks a $2500 windshield that really pissed me off. I to would've been in jail if I saw it being done but it could of been keyed and that would have been much worse.

I have heard from friends that have had their cars vandalized repeatedly in their apt. building garages. Really sucks.

I have had my car spat on, on two occaisions, did nothing to provoke, once while I was in the car, and group passed me by on sidewalk...spit right on windscreen. I just ignore that kind of borish behavior...

Not sure what kind of enjoyment people get from vandalizing others belongings; I personally think that they probably have some sort of mental illness, or personality disorder. Probably nothing a good ass-kicking wouldn't straighten out.

We took the 355 out to the local shopping center to get something to eat. We come out, and find someone has lined rocks on the hood, and spit inside the car. Thankfully, i looked the whole car over, and no damage anywhere, not even from the rocks. If i were to have caught these people, i would be in jail right now. What are people thinking to do something like that? Even if i hated someone, i would never touch their belongings, id punch them in the mouth, but never touch their car. Oh well, could of been worse.
