That is a beautiful 550, not sure but I believe the wheels are Fikse. Is that correct?

My, lets lower the front end, chop it, and raise the rear for a rake. Maybe lake pipes. Then I will paint flames on the side. A little bobing dog in the front will put the finishing touch on it.

550s are also equiped with coilover ajustable suspensions, right? If so, just ajust (make sure to turn equal ammounts on each side with teh front as a set, and the rear as a seperate set, and you'll be fine.) If you don't like, easy to return to stock.

The spring perchs are threaded and just turn!

IMO the car has been low enough to kill the bugs and get the rock chips on the front bumper

Not to mention the scrape on the bottom part of the front bumper

I think I'd rather keep it in the factory setting height

Nice black 550 by the way :-)

Assuming the car was set correctly from the factory (which every one I've checked has, with the exception of Factory Challenge cars, which Ferrari knows will be properly prepared by the dealer/ race team), just follow the procedure I outlined. Turn spring platforms the same amount on the same axle. This simple detail will ensure cross-weight remains correct.

The S in SW stands for Sriyantha. I do not know his last name. His phone number 1.5 years ago was (512)452-9068.

Jim,
The black car belongs to a guy in TX who owns an exotic car dealership in Austin,TX.He's called "SW",short for ??? and owns,a RED Viper,2 single Supras,a 550,a modded Ford Lightining to name few. He's also very well known among the Viper guys ( he just ran a 1/4 in 9.3sec at 14x) and is a very down to earth, car loving guy.I think his dealership's name is " elite motorsports" and if i find his tele # i can email it to you should you want one.Hope it helps.
Later, Yasir

go to www.bmwm5.com and try to send a private message to someone with the board name "streetking". That black 550 Maranello with the cargraphic belongs to him so he will be the best person to talk to about lowering a 550

Dave, not so if you do it right.

Re-align, yes; corner weight, not required unless you already have a problem, or if you mess it up.

You will also have to corner-balance the car again after lowering it if you ever intend to drive it really fast and/or on the track.

I think as long as the shock bound and re-bound are set correctly with the spring rate it should be ok. This prevents the tire hitting the wheel well or getting the butterfly look (this is when the tires turn in when they are improperly lowered. Hope this helps.

the real reason I ask is that i like the look of the bigger tires adn the lowering as the 550 seems to sit too high and the wheels look a bit small for the car. Ferrari moved up to 19" wheels and 305 width for the 575, but the wheel wells still look empty.

I guess its the same thing for all performance car. Bigger wheels and lowering will hurt comfort , the ride will be harsher/harder and bigger wheels will affect acceleration times . Now i dont know how bad it will affect a 550 .

I have seen several 550's that have been lowered. 1 was the yellow player's run that crashed! the other was a black one in austin and I saw a silver one advertised for the players run in the dupont registry. The players run cars both had Hamaan 18x13 rears with 335 tires. The Austin, TX car has 19 x ? rears.

Question: How do you lower the car and does it hurt its performance/stability etc? I see challenge cars lowered and my friends used to lower trucks by simply cutting the springs, but they were not performance cars!
