I think the picture Rob posted below is actually the display of his personal Ferraris at the Sprint car show.

What's the proper name for the 'blue' color on the TR depicted in Rob Lay's photo a few posts down from here?

Agree that 275GTS are pretty. Saw one at Ron Tonkin. I was quite taken by it. Had the top down, I took probably a dozen pics.

Like alot of these cars, they look alot better in the metal than in the photos. I am not down on the 275GTS either, although i like a slightly more aggressive looking snout. Thus, the pf cabrio 1 is more appealing to mean than the series 2; for the same reason, i guess i prefer the cal spyder with the covered headlights and deep lamp recesses to the one(s) with the flatter face. (BTW, i did own a FIAT 124, albeit the coupe not the spyder. I think the spyder is gorgeous. There aren't very many here in the northeast since they mostly rusted away in the seventies.)Regards.

To continue with wmhart's post, there were 200 275GTS' made between '63 and '66, mostly for the US market, though a few were delivered in europe. Almost all were lhd. I don't think the front end looks at all like the fiat 124, but hey, eye of the beholder! I currently own #07441, which is a '65, yellow/black car that is a BLAST to drive and awesome to just stare at. Prices have held rather steady, though under the 330GTS'.

Ah, thanks. So one would be referred to as a 275GTS, and the other as a 275GTS/4 NART Spider? Altho I understand, the model designation nonetheless is a little confusing.

BTW, Jon Shirley claims his car, which is aluminum, is the only one that actually says "275GTS/4" on the ID plate. (Or maybe there is one more??) The other spiders apparently say "275GTB/4".

To continue where L.Wayne left off (not that i have anywhere near the detailed historical knowledge he does), the 275 GTS is often referred to as a handsome Ferrari variant of the noble FIAT 124 spider(perhaps its really reversed in chronology though). The 275 GTB/4, cut into a convertible originally, is not only worth some millions more, but looks much more like a 275 GTB/4, sans top. There are later "cut" gtb/4's as well, including, for example the one currently being offered by Motor Classic in White Plains, NY. (I think Kenny H. posted some pics of it on another thread). Anyway, large difference. (I too like the 330 gts, but they keep getting less cheap).

Hans, along with the 275 GTB, Ferrari also produced a spyder version, the 275 GTS, which carried entirely different coachwork from the berlinetta. The 275 GTB/4 (sometimes referred to as the 275 GTS/4) NART Spyders were 4-cam berlinettas that were cut at the request of Luigi Chinetti.

Sorry, I have customers right now and can't get into much more detail than that. Hope that helps!

I'm slightly confused. What's a 275GTS?

At the Jon Shirley garage, there was, basically, a 275GTB/4 that was a spider. i.e. it looked like a 275GTB. It's apparently a very rare car, with something like 10 existing.

These other 275GTS cars have a very short nose, and apparently are not that rare.

What is the difference, what am I missing in the model designation? These are obviously different cars, but seemingly carry the same 275GTS designation. Or not. Clarification anyone?

Sign me confused, Hans.

I would, however, have to say I like the 330 GTS a bit more than the 275.

I agree that the 275 GTS is an open air, front-engined V-12 Ferrari bargain. From the rear the car is nearly identical to the 330/365 GTS models, but the front end's resemblence to the Fiat 124 Spider seems to have kept prices down.

The 275GTS is one of the best looking Ferrari drop tops ever. The wire wheels really look great and the car actually looks good in colors other then red like yellow, blue, and I even saw a white one online that looked decent. The front is sharp looking, but the rear is really where it is at from the back and the 4 exhaust tips sticking out the car looks awesome. IMHO I would rather by a 275gts then a california and save all the extra $$ and it looks better to boot. Just my .02 cents on the car. Also if I were buying a weekend car I would rather buy this car then a new 360 spider.

Haven't met him, he is a friend of a friend; the car was formally owned by Jon Shirley, whose "garage" full of Ferraris has been posted to this List. I have seen the car close-up when parked in the neighborhood, it was completely restored to a very high standard.

Here is what I know to be in my neighborhood, either friends, or just guys I see all the time:

71 Daytona black/natural
71 Daytona red/tan
90 Testarossa black/black
? 355 B gray metallic/black
87 Mondial 3.2 black/tan
00 360 Modena Red/tan
? 330 silver/black(the four place one, GTC?)
? 246 maroon/black (I think it is maroon)
? 275 GTS red/tan
76 308 GTB race car

There used to be a few others, but they sold them...there may be a few I can't recall at this late hour.

It was a bad day and a good day for me today. Bad; I dropped off my car for some services; probably see it in a couple of weeks.

Good? As I pull out of my driveway, a 275GTS from the neighborhood drives by...red/tan and beautiful. Also got to change the oil/filter on a retired neighbors black Mondial 3.2 Fresh Baldwin and 9 quarts of Castrol and she's "good to go" till next year. Changing the oil on a Ferrari is not work, it is a joy!
