i think of newness as a function of miles, not as a function of time. So to me, the 95 is newer because it has had less exposure to the risks of driving. Either way you will be fine, the 95 sounds better and has more horses....the 96 has some "newer" stuff but i bet when driving both the differences you will feel are the sound and hp as opposed to the new electronics, etc...either way you cant go wrong

Before you go any further, Read in Tech Area
"Worn valve guide" thread. This will shed new light on your quest.

Scott:

Drive both. I think you'll find that the 97 works better, they changed the suspension late 96, you'll also find that it has a glove box, which the early model didn't. If you like music, the 97 has a place for a 6 CD changer, etc.

Looking at the later car, it has gotten major improvments. The electronics are better, you name it, it got improved. The higher mileage isn't a problem, in fact, it makes sure that the seals have gone away.

Get the 97.

I'd RATHER have a 22k ferrari than an 8k one! Get the 97, no question.

Challenge grills keep the motors cooler, so I am a universal fan (regardless of the asthetic, which I also usually like.)

97, without a doubt. The car was improved over the 95 and will always be worth more, even with the extra mileage. Plus its got the Tubi, and the grill.

I have a 95 with a Tubi. WHAT A SOUND! I've had the car for three years and have had no problems what so ever. My choice would be soley on whether the car has a Tubi or not. The driving experience is just that much better. Man, I can't get enough of that sound especially after 5000 rpm all the way to redline. And, if you think it sounds good inside, you should hear the car outside! Go with the car with the tubi, you won't regret it!

Todd, although the 95 was the first year, I have heard from many that it is the best of the bunch. There are some problems, but the cars have been on the road long enough that there are known fixes for them. The first year is the truest iteration of the F355. It makes more horsies and has a more visceral feel.

1997...especially if you are considering selling down the road...I personally think the 95 is a great car yet alot people get discouraged by what they hear of the 95 and b/c it's the 1st year of the 355...many buyers don't want a 1st year car. Plus the Tubi and the grill are sweet...you can always have the interior touched up.

Cheers

The warranty is the Ferrari Powertrain Plus warranty. The car is certified after going through a 5 to 6 hour series of tests including a compression test. This covers the powertrain for one year.

both sound great but my five cents would be go for the 97. I own 96 355s and from what I've learnt in the process the 95 had various teething problems(curable) that subsequent year models ironed out. From what I can make out the car seemed to get 'better' every year of manufacture with experience gained from users. 95 sounds very well cared for but you'll appreciate the difference of the Tubi. Interior can be repaired at various places and gives you a hobby.

Scott, the one year warranty that you are referring to is on any part that a FNA Dealer installed during the 30K. That is standard for any FNA completed service. If you are under the impression that you have additional coverage, clarify with the dealer to see if they are giving you an actual extended warranty.

Depending on how much you are going to drive, I would probably go for the 1997. You will have to somewhat watch the miles you rack up though.

The Tubi in the US costs closer to $3,300 retail plus installation (nominal) or do it yourself.

You will not go wrong with either car.

Don't suffer from "Paralysis of Analysis" as the sooner you make a choice, the sooner you will be driving. I recently got mine and it is EVERYTHING I hoped it would be, plus more.

Either way, you have got to have the Tubi..Sounds awesome. PS. the 1995 355 with the OBDI (vs OBDII) and the dual airflow meters/intakes REALLY sounds awesome with the Tubi.

Best of luck. Post some Pics!!

I'd say get the 97 car. They have less issues in general, plus its 2 years newer.

Also, in some states in the US, don't you also get 7 year warranty on things like cars etc? The 97 car would still be covered, the 95 wouldn't.

Cats and manifolds are weak on these cars.

For 4k more, the 97 seems better value, also, I personally prefer cars that have been used more consistently, rather than an 8 year old car that has done 1,000 per annum!!! Imagine how hard each of those miles have been driven...

I think the tubi sounds fantastic on 355s and you might want to add one later, which might cost you $2000 anyway. Then again, you might not want it. The challenge grill should help cooling.

Good luck either way, and that's all said assuming conditions on both cars are great.

I have an opportunity to buy either a 95 355B or a 97 355B and I need help deciding.

The 95 is a red/tan 2 owner car with 8K miles and all books tools and records. The car is receiving a 30k service (with tensioners) at a Ferrari dealer right now and comes with the Ferarri one year warranty. Cosmetics are real strong and the interior is almost perfect.

The 97 is a one owner car that is red/tan with 22K miles and all books, tools and records. The car has had the 30K service and clutch done 100 miles ago and comes with the Ferrari one year warranty as well. This car also has a challenge grill and TUBI exhaust. The cosmetics are also excellent although the interior is notch below the 95.

I can buy the 95 for $79K or the 97 for $83K. Which is the better deal and do the TUBI and Challenge grill really add any value? Which car could be resold easier (I will probably trade up to a 360 in a few years)...

Thanks,

Scott
