Dom: Most of the "7" clones are available kit or assembled. Westfield apparently no longer sells here. They told me it involved issues surrounding product liability insurance (the lawyers win again). But they had a "pay as you go" program where you ordered separate kits - frame kit, suspension kit, etc. Buy a kit as you can afford it. Pretty soon, you (hopefully) have a complete car. Sort of like how Ferrari assembled GT4s. I think there may be other issues as well involving the assembled cars, as they are presumably new cars and must meet various legal crap. Apparently the kit cars sneak thru some loopholes and are easier to license. |

Egads.. Doesn't the GT4 leak enough oil- You're really thinking about a British car????????? Are the caterham 7's the ones that you build yourself? Or do you buy them in running form? I've always loved the idea of building my own car, though I really would have no idea how to go about it, and I have very little mechanical ability. I can dream though... Dom |

We're thinking alike, Peter. I've been looking at "7"s as well. There is a new Westfield at a dealership in Portland. He only wants $20K for it, as he's had it quite a while. Titled as a 1967, so smog, etc. shouldn't be an issue. |

Hans, that's not far from the truth! I had to laugh because in my search for parts (pre-Ferrari UK days...), I stumbled onto a UK parts site. In it you could buy a fresh, in primer, no S/N, Euro, GT4 shell. Complete with doors and lids for an insane amount of money (I think it was almost twice as much as a complete car!)... Hey David, you don't have to tell me about the 7, that'll be my next car! |

Peter Promise I'll get some pics of the Seven up as well...it's about as much fun as you can have with your clothes on, on 4 wheels! Unfortunately it's gearbox is away at the moment being rebuilt after a 2 day 550 mile track day at Spa. 2 sunny days in a row at Spa - who would believe it...and there was 1 of the 288 Evolution racers there! |

Yeah, Peter had his car so far disassembled, that he might as well have just ordered a new one from Jeff Howe, piece by piece. |

Oh, David, take Jeff Howe's suggestion. Their online parts book is amazing. They've got damn near enough stuff there to build a GT4 from scratch. (now THAT would be an exercise in futility) |

Plus, you have to drive GT4s fast. It's the only way you can keep ahead of the oil fire. |

I thought the 308GT4 (just like other Ferrari's) looks much nicer in person. Last week while driving in St. Louis, my 5-year old son yelled "Dad, there's a Ferrari!" Didn't pay much attention but when I decided to look back...saw a red GT4! I slowed down until the car got closer to us and there it was. The sight and sound was amazing; it seemed louder than a 328 (or is it just me?). Ron |

Welcome and post pics and VIN#, I want to start a GT4 registery, but I think Peter has already begun. BTW, I just got my Heritage certificate from the owners site, pretty cool! Seems my engine and tranny are original to the car. If you haven't done so, fill out the form online and they send you an email with a acrobat file that you can print out. |

Congratulations. Don't let the jokes put you off. GT4's are much less plentiful than the later models, more exclusive. And easier to work on. |

Hans, wouldn't the stand-up phrase in the support group be: "Hi. My name is David. I have a GT4."...?

Naw, David. No GT4 jokes here. Nope. Never. Makes life easier if you just tell everybody it's a rebodied Fiero. PS - where's the pic? What color? Automatic or manual? (OK, just kidding on the last one.) And, don't hesitate to email if you have any questions. Like: "Is there a support group?" "Hi. My name is David. I have a GT4 addiction." |

David, welcome & - CONGRATULATIONS...! Like Tillman said, now you need to post some pictures...! Not that i've any margin to make jokes in this area, but my favorite Ferrari joke is one i think Matt posted a few weeks ago: Guy walks into the parts department. Clerk: "Can i help you...?" GT4 Owner: "Yeah... wiper blade for a '75 GT4...?" Clerk: "Yeah, that sounds like a fair trade..." LOL...! |

Matt, GT4 ownership puts you in a special club, sorta like the mafia. We are here in numbers, and in places you'd never expect. I'd watch what I say about GT4's if I were you- you might find yourself wearing a pair of cement shoes in a big pool of oil in a gt4 owners garage Oh, and by the way, GT4's don't really rust. The oil leaks leave a layer of rustproofing Dom |

Wooo hooo!!! Another GT4 owner!! GT4's rule! Post pictures, details. Also, I'm sure that they'll ask for your chassis number, since I think Peter is keeping/starting a register. The GT4 is a great starter ferrari, and supposedly handles better/is faster/lighter than the 308 GTB/S. "A drivers car in the extreme", if I may quote the Forza GT4 buyers guide. Best of Luck. Oh, and if you have any questions, please feel free to e-mail me. Dom |

Fantastic! Congrats. I really like the GT4, and will probably add one to my collection in the near future. I understand from some very good drivers that it actually handles/corners REALLY well! |

Finally done it - years of wanting and waiting...my newly acquired '75 GT4 is ready for collection. I've lurked here for a while and I'm impressed with what I've seen - hopefully those of us scraping in at the bottom end of the F-car market are as welcome as the 360/575 crowd! Certainly seems to be the case. I'm bracing myself for a few GT4 jokes however... Stand by for the inevitable queries although I'll promise to use the search button. Looking forward to many happy years of Ferrari motoring! |
