Some of the comments here lead me to pose another question...

My idea of a car, any car, is one that I can can drive reasonably hard with very little fear of major mechanical breakdown. I don't care that car is "well presented" or detailed.

I'd much rather have a car that was structurally and mechanically sound then have shiny paint and brightwork. I don't want to be always worried about stone chips, scratches, etc. I just want to drive.

So, if I could pick up a well used car that was excellant mechanically for a good price then I would rather do that than pay extra for one that had shiny paint and chrome.

The C/4 has a much more modern feel than the 365 2+2, in spite of the similar mechanical specs between the cars.

Also, the C/4 is a very marginal 4-seater at best, where the 365 2+2 is quite reasonable. I've had my whole family (wife and two young kids) in my 365 2+2 on occasion, with no problem.

In a C/4, I have to put the driver's seat so far back that there is no legroom at all for the rear seat. (Literally-- the base of the driver's seat pushes against the rear seat). Of course, I'm 6'4", so YMMV.

A C/4 is really a GT car, in the best sense of the term. It's fast, comfortable (for two), has a huge trunk, and is designed to cover lots of miles quickly.

I too like the 365 GTC/4 and might look for one in the future. They are commonly refered to as a "de-tuned Daytona" but I wouldn't agree. I would describe their lineage (mechanicaly speaking, not body style or marketing position) as a continuation of the 365GT 2+2 with a different set of heads and a shorter wheelbase. They both have wet sump engines directly attached to the trans and rear diff. with "load leveling" ind. suspension. In contrast, the Daytona has a dry sump engine and, like the 275 GTB/S and 330/365 GTC/S, has a transaxle in the rear. The subsequent 365GT/4 2+2, 400/412 models are basically a GTC/4 with a streched frame. Compare pictures of engine compartments of a 365 GTC/4, 365 GT/4 2+2 and 400 GT (carb) and one can see that they are identical down to the last detail.
Performance-wise every reference to a 365 GTC/4 that I have seen has put 1/4 mile times in the 15 second @ mid 90's mph range, right where the 330 GTC/S, 365GT 2+2 and 365GT/4 2+2 usually are. The Daytona is considerably quicker.

Again, I like the GTC/4 and would enjoy owning another "under appreciated" Ferrari. The comfortable interior and wide doors are quite advantage to greybeards like me who have more than a few pieces of metal holding their spine together.

I'd have to agree...I too like the GTC4. I recall reading about an older gentleman in the UK that owned one since new (UK Classic Cars mag??) and he had nothing bad to say about it. Used it on a regular basis and performed a lot of maintenance himself. My kind of guy too in that he was inventive when it came to keeping the car on the road as his daily driver.

Hi Brian,
365GTC4s are great cars. Very much like a Daytona from a street performance standpoint. You can drive one around as fast as a Daytona for less than half the price. When you stomp on the loud pedal and those six Weber get going it feels like your girlfriend's father kickin you out of her bedroom. Wham!!
This car is, as has been said here by others, of questionable virtue due to its presentation. I don't know that I would buy anything via a private auction. I have to be suspicious!
Have you looked at "The Car Experience". There are a few GTC4s for sale there. Not for 39K but I wonder if you can really own the silver car for 39K. ??? www.thecarexperience.com
Good Luck and have Brian I love looking for cars. Anybody who thinks it is hassle should walk.

I saw a red C4 last year up close and personal and it looks nice in person. The front end isn't nearly as goofy looking as it seems in pictures. I would love to have one. The engine is almost the same as the Daytona with only minor differences. That EBay one looked drab and as was mentioned, that car has a bad vibe about it.

That car is a 365GTC/4, not a 365 2+2 (the vendor has a 365 2+2 on eBay as well).

It's been around-- it was on eBay a while back with a different seller. I can't tell that much from the pictures, but the seller doesn't inspire my confidence (just based on their presentation).

Personally, I like C/4s (and 365 2+2s as well-- I've owned one of those for ten years). I think they look much better in person than in pictures.

I've always liked these cars. It's kind of misrepresented as a 365 GT 2+2, when it should be GTC/4. Mild Daytona engine.

looks rough outside with repaint, lots of people don't like the fronts of these cars, so they are less desirable than other, not considered a great car but does have the v12 engine, both good and bad

Anyone have any thoughts/knowledge on this car (as first Ferrari) that ended on Ebay? Didn't sell at $33K and "Buy it now" was $39K.
