Hi WHart,
Good to hear from you. Truth is I was never serious about the car, but the ad was intriguing. Would love a Boxer one day, and the more I think about it, the more I believe I'll do so sooner than later. I've committed myself to an 89 328, and should have the details of the deal next week. If it does not go through, I'll look in earnest for a Boxer in the States.

For some reason (unless its a track car), "modified" and Ferrari don't mix well. A completely stock 512BBi would more than satisfy your performance needs, Adrian. As you know, i am a big fan of the boxer, had one, would have another, but would only buy any of these cars with some objectively verifiable history. Given your Dino, i wouldgo for something 12ish in a ferrari. The value of this site is once again proven.

Adrain,

not trying to excuse the crimal behaviour, quite the contrary.."I'm explaining it".

and how the hoax/crime can only be perpetrated on those living in a dream world or hell of their own choosing and making. People get scammed because in the particular instance we're discussing, they set themselves up for it.

Of course the dealer claims he knows nothing and blames someone else, what did you expect him to say? yea we rolled it back so what?

Can I see copies of the dealers filing of fraud charges against this "broker" ???

For a few dollars less, you could just paint this yellow:-) http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=7251&item=2416167654
Just not my cup of tea. Some cars look decent with body kits. IMO, the Boxer is not one of them.
Seriously Adrian, are you looking for a Boxer, or something that is a little more wild? There are plenty of nice Boxers currently for sale.

Dealer just contacted me. Claims he bought the car from a broker, and has no knowledge of the odometer reading. I've forwarded Lee's info to him. If I am wrong about him, I am profusely sorry, but not about the "industry" that exists to lie and take advantage of people.

JRV,
Though I see you position, allowing scam artists this excuse/apology is being way too generous/forgiving. We all have a choice when it comes to how we behave. Our beliefs, anal retentive or not, is not harmful to anyone but ourselves. When we inflict or conspire to injure others, we cross the line. Though I agree that mea culpa is wise advice, society as we live in today would not be as safe, happy and prosperous if we allowed scumbags to do whatever they wanted.

Maybe the odometer was changed when it was brought over (don't know why it would have been).

JRV..

I'll be careful about those kit cars. Some of them can really look convincing. Those "headrest speakers" will usually give it away though! :-)

Funny, you've got a '77 GTB on your site too and that is EXACTLY what I'm looking for, but the miles are so low it will put it out of my range as well (although, only about $8k versus $50K, so I'm getting closer!).

Adrian,

Here's my personal opinion...the scam artists were'nt born (for the most part) they were created. The Market Created Them...The Dealers Created Them....The Anal Retentive, Nuerotic, Unrealistic Pretentious Near-Do-Well Assholes Created them....

everyone wants to pop the cherry and treats this like a religion instead of a hobby...so the scammer sellers are just as much a victim of the market that created them as the buyers are of the unrealistic thinking that created some fantasy of cars 10-15-20 yrs old that were never driven.

JMHO !

SCAM ARTIST ALERT! The dealer just emailed me the vin and it is EXACTLY the same as Lee's post. Except the dealer says mileage is 16000km! Lee's post reveals the car had 40,389 MILES, approx 68000 km.
What do you think guys, should I report him to the Ministry of Transportation? Some other poor soul might see this and buy the car and be completely misled.

ps: and learn about "compliance tags" so you don't get scammed with a kit car..or look ignorant in public...;-)

lol...

yes full knowledge.

Boxers were "Gray Market Cars"..Therefore they had No "Manufacturers Compliance Tags" you are refering to as seen on cars "Imported and Made Compliant By Manufacturers". Are you one of those Red Blooded "Buy American" kinda guys?

Then again it could be a kit car...;-)..

I hope posting the serial number in the for sale add on FerrariChat => FerrariAds.com doesn't give it all away.

Adrian,

I was thinking of a way to enhance value of that car, if you end up getting it,...seeing as how the bodywork doesn't appeal to everyone...

Take and glue feathers all over it and rename it "The Big Bird Ferrari"....it'll make all the magazines and kids shows and become a Famous Car with history and provenance.

Adrian,

Yes, sadly my 348 begins to crack there, too! Mechanic says this is "normal" since the stiffness there doesnt seem to be too high. Just a paint job to fix that.
Bought my early 348 two years ago. Never had any serious problems besides the redoing of my transmission which was rather costly. Other things were usual service and a clutch replacement (One of those "normal" Ferrari things, I guess!)
The Tubi stuff and the K&N really paid off. Car revs and breaths much better with an dynoed hp gain of around 30hp. :-) :-)
Driving the car around the whole year when weather is fine and it seems to get better and better lately (Knock on wood!).
A piece of advice: Dont replace the whole clutch if its done. This is recommended by every official Ferrari dealer but absolutely not necessary (Redoing cost you exactly half the money!).
Besides that the car NEVER left me stranded. It runs very solid and smooth. I never looked back and compared to the 328 (Which is an awesome car, too!) it simply makes a more rugid and solid impression to me! Especially the torque is far superior to the 328 although the 328 "feels" lighter and maybe a bit more "tossable".
At the moment by far the "Best bang for the buck" if you want a Ferrari.

Jens, how's the car running? How long have you had it? Any regrets? Anything you would have done differently? I happen to like the look of your car better than the 328, more updated, but I am having a hard time finding one that has no stories and is priced fairly. Seems like Canadian cars have a significant premium over similar cars in the US.
BTW, when shopping for your car, did you notice if many of them had cracks along the rear fender/c pillar junction? Virtually all the ones I've seen have this flaw, and some have had pain blown in the crack to repair it.

>>The car's supposed to be very quick, in mint condition,<<

from what I see in the photo of the engine, that is far away from what "I" call mint condition.

If you want to see what "mint condition" looks like follow this link:

Jens, just sent an email to the dealer asking for vin. Will soon know if there is some connection. Hard to believe that there are so many similarly modified cars, coming from the same dealer in Europe. Perhaps there was a period of time where everyone suffered from "brain fart"!
I guess you and I have no life, sitting at the computer on Saturday! BTW, love your car!

Shouldn't there be some sort of front grill for it? Looks a little unfinished there to me. Can't say I'm a fan of the body work either. A beautiful car has been given a fresh 80's look.

Thanks for the info, Jens. the dealer claims the car has 16,000km, and Lee seems to have known about the car. The infoo Lee has is that the car had 40,389 MILES!!! I guess if it's the same car, it must have suffered from amnesia!

How to kill a 512 bb ! This sthing is ugly !
Better get a 512 BB/BBi and have a Ferrari specialist work on the engine if you want more Hp/speed..Michelotto did some work on the 512 back in the 1980's.

I absolutely respect the achievements of Knig as a tuner. Their products are well made and good BUT their body kits for nearly all Ferraris are horrible IMO.
Look at that car: Pininfarina is one of if not THE best design bureau in the world. Then there comes a tuner from a garage in Munich and simply pastes literally dozens of spoilers at the car.
Uhhhhhhhhhhh...:-(
Well, I guess taste is not debatable but here....
By the way:
Lees comments on this car seem to be correct. The surroundings in which the pictures are taken are clearly Sportwagen Engel in Andernach, Germany. Have been there last week.
My proposal: Buy power enhancements from Knig but NEVER even think about touching their bodykits! :-)

Hi Lee (Sanders),
What can you tell me about the car? You mentioned a number of things you think are related to the pictures. I just want to confirm that they are related to the car. Do you have any way for me to verify your post? Thanks

Dr. Lee, if I buy this car, I'll PARK it in front of your home and tell all your neighbours you couldn't keep up the payments on your 348, and the dealer took pity on you, so he gave you a kit car!!! LOL

The difference between the two cars is hugh. No way to compare.

This is chassis # 35101. It was previously for sale in Germany at Sportwagen-Engel in April 2003, in Germany. At that time it had 40,389 miles, price 26.334 GBP. It had been in Germany since at least 1996.

I personally don't think these Koenings have more than 10 - 15 BHP above a stock BB with free flow exhausts. I would not pay a premium for the Koenig model. Who has it now and how much do they want for it now?

I would probably buy it just to get the floor mats.

so I assume this is not one that had the turbo engine upgrade? I'm sure you've seen the one on their website w/ variable boost to produce 600/700/800/1000 horsepower at the twist of a knob?
I'm sure most have the seen the F50 w/ the same arrangement

Priced similarly to other locally available 82 512BBs, apparently this car was worked on by Koenig, has complete Koenig body kit, upgraded carbs and Koenig exhaust and wheels. Not crazy about the style, looks dated.

The car's supposed to be very quick, in mint condition, low mileage though I think tough to verify...imported from Europe. It's currently in Montreal. Might go see it if my offer for a local 89 328 falls through.
