That is one of the bonus videos from F355 Challenge. Not sure if it's from the PS2, or other system.

You drive like a Champ, the vids are great, and the F355 looks marvelous. When will you be out again, and when can we expect more vids?!

Hey can anyone name where my pic came from?Upload

My only comparison is rumor has it Archer has been a 1:19 in his T1 Viper. I believe this was before the restrictors though. Vipers should hands down stomp the 355 C at TWS and TMS. At MSR with equal drivers it would be close, at best I can hope to be within a second of Bobby, he's the man! Deb Loth is the women as she's getting within a half second of Bobby now and she's only been racing two years!

Rob, watching you on the videos, I think you downplay your talent a bit...

That said, I will wager that you will get below 1:20 in the not too distant future. At the BMWCCA-PCA club races in February at MSR, Becky in the 911 RS 3.8 purple race car won at an average pace of 1:24, with a half lap lead (i.e., no one pushing her). With some practice, you should get below 1:20. I will bet $1 on it!!

Dave, I thought it went well for the first time. I think next time out I can get under 1:22. Have to remember I have 150 more HP, full race suspension, and Pzero racing slicks. It's actually hard to drive slow in this car.

Who knows what it can do with proper set-up, fresh rubber, and experienced driver (more than just a SRX7 driver!).

Slight chance I might be out there Saturday morning for two sessions, but I don't have a passenger seat yet. You would just have to watch this time around.

Ed, for the sponsors, the "official" sponsorship period lasts from July 1 to end of 2004. 18 months! I still need to install all the passenger side stuff, get all the tools and spares I need, and just get more comfortable driving and working on the car myself. I imagine through most of the summer we'll be getting the shirts and models out to everyone. Usually there's not that many track days in the heat of summer anyway. Starting about September of this year we'll start having an extensive schedule that goes through the end of 2004. Right now one of the big events already on the schedule is the 2004 FCA meet at Monterey. One thing at a time, not something I need to rush. Have had less than half the sponsorship money come in and still need to sign up some new ones.

Rob: Now you have to let your sponsors know your schedule so that we can try to get to at least one of the tracks this season. Nice job on both the racing and on the videos of the racing.

Rob,

It looked to me that you have absolutely NO need for a rear view mirror! The first rule of Italian driving, you know.

#1 - I didn't want anyone else out there for my first test.

#2 - Cone was kicked over there a few laps previous by someone. You wouldn't think a cone would do any damage, but I hit one in the Rx7 once and it took off half the paint on my bumper.

#3 - Yes, the rearview is pretty darn important for me, but hopefully I can adjust the camera mount to have a better view.

Great videos Rob! Looks like you are really up to speed in the car already. Try installing a wide angle lens which gives a bigger view.

Great vids and lap times !

OK, here's a couple videos. Amazing! Watching my 3rd session video and taking lap times I found out I went a 1:23.3!!! I think my guess earlier in the day on lap times was way off. I guess the 355 C just makes it feel so easy. This is much faster than I thought I would go, especially the first day. For the 2001 FCA Annual Meet here at MSR I timed two days of the fast run group. There were several 355 C's, 360's, and the F50 GT1 and the fastest time I saw either day was a 355 C doing a 1:24. Another judge of the time is my SRX7 best time is 1:29.5 and my 328 GTS is 1:33.5. A full 10 seconds a lap faster than the 328!

Lap of MSR 1:23.29...

Hey Rob,

How bout' some real time telemtry from your lap top, that would be cool!

I was laughing my a** off when you said you would just take it easy. Will Heaney (will h) said the same thing when he brought his 360 Challenge out to Summit Point last month for the first time. He said he was going to use the 2 day event to just become familiar with the car.

Well that lasted about 2 sessions and then he beat the %&%^ out of it running about as fast I was running in the 355 C and he had never even driven a 360 C before (not an easy car to drive fast).

Given the higher temps out in Texas you might want to start around 21 to 22 cold. If your car is set up close to Ferrari's base setup you don't want more than 32 1/2 to 33 in the rear. In my opinion 34 is too high.

In the front you want no more than 31 1/2 to 32 tops. Has your car been corner balanced since you got it? Might be a good idea.

Water temp looks about right and the oil temp looks good too. I usually have the oil temp run a shade above 300. On any other car this would normally freak me out but I have had Ferrari of Washington tell me that Jim McCormick could never keep the temp below 300 either. just don't let it get to 320 that's where the fun ends.

I was the fastest thing on the track today, great videos to post later.

Get used to it. After a while it gets boring and you long for someone to play with. My favorite sessions are not the ones where I lap people but where it takes me half a session to hunt down another car and another half session to get by him. The "355 Chase Video" for example took me 6 laps to catch the other 355 C and 4 laps to get by him.

Last thing: get a good tire pyrometer and make sure you get the tire temps in the pit lane when you pull in. Don't do a slow drive around the paddock and then check the temps as they will be inaccurate. In fact just having your car sitting with one side facing the sun for a minute or two can make a huge difference in temps from the shade side and the sunny side.

Also, if possible try not to do too much of a cool down lap when you are still getting your tire pressures set.

I see many folks do a slow cool down lap, then do another slow cool down lap in the parking lot then get ouf the car and check temps.

Do your parking/paddock lot cool down after you get your tire temps. Have someone in the pits waiting for you.

Glad you had fun, welcome to the club!

Regards,

Jon P. Kofod

Water and oil temps look about right; that right where my oil runs and only about 5 degrees hotter from where my water runs and should be considered within the accuracy of the gauge.

I'm all packed up and ready to leave the track now. 3rd session was great. 30 minutes and the weather down here in Texas has really heated up. Car held up great though and kept in a good temp range, even though I was driving even harder than the 2nd session.

30 minutes of apexs, late braking (ABS activating), 125 mph straights (only 1.8 mile short tight track, can't wait to do TWS/TMS), and passing Vettes and Porsches like crazy. I was the fastest thing on the track today, great videos to post later.

all the wireless providers sell them now - sprintpcs, verizon, etc.

it's a PCCard that is a cellular phone modem.

a better solution (IMO) is to get a cellphone that can be used as a modem - it's cheaper in the long run. many phones can do this now and you just need a serial or USB cable b/w your laptop and phone and bam! you've got a modem.

alternately, you can get a cellphone that can do all of this. i use a Kyocera 7135 Palm Smartphone and i browse fchat on it occassionally. lots of phones are starting to have decent internet browsers on them.

doody.

Second session just finished. Man oh man, heck with taking it easy. Ran the hell out of it like the bad it is. The car and I both loved it!

Started working on my braking points, I'm not getting lap times. I'll have to wait and review the video. However, I think this session I may have been down 1:28 or so.

Second session ever in the car and I'm using the curbs and the ABS goes on for two of the turns.

Tire pressures ended up at...

LF: 29
RF: 30.5
LR: 31
RR: 34

I'll have to learn all about these race slicks, not use to that much temp change. My SRX7 DOT Toyo's are a no brainer. Start at 31 and they usually go up to 36.

Also... Rob, Mitch, Jon, Matt, David or anyone else out there? My temps are running hot, but maybe it's not hot for a 355 Challenge...

225 degrees water.
290 degrees oil.

I'm using both fans all the time.

I'll probably just run one more session.

The FerrariChat.com Race Team 355 Challenge and I are at Motorsports Ranch C.C. right now for the first break in and test session. I'm connected to you via a Sprint wireless card on my lap-top.

Just quick update now as I have another session soon.

Everything has gone great after one session. Started PZero slicks at 24 pounds. Fronts went to 28 after a light 25 minute session and back to 30 pounds.

I added a quart of oil as it was showing at minimum after the first session. Everything else is fine. Car is so eazy to drive after being use to a "nervous" SRX7. Sounds are the best and the power. Braking and turns I'm taking really conservative until I get use to the car. After my first 25 minutes in the car I'm just running about 1:30-1:31. That's were I usually run in the SRX7. Don't want to push it too much on the first session or even the first day for that matter.

Here's some quick pics...
