"I tell you what else I do too; I change it after every track weekend nomatter how new it is." Sound advice, I term this 'scalding' the oil. Once the oil gets really hot (like 290 dF) change it even if it is synthetic, you have already 'used' much of the additive package. |

FAF used to have a 308 engine on display in the showroom that had the exact same thing happen to it. (They weren't displaying someone's mistake, just a pretty engine that no longer worked) |

Matt...That was a mean post (hehe)..Mark, Every 2-4K miles is good. If I drive mine hard in very hot wheather, I will change it at 1K. If it sits more than you drive it, change it every 6 months...This reminds me of a friend and his 308. He did not realize that he drained the gearbox and filled the oil 2X its capacity...Yep..Blown gearbox in 100 miles! A nice $10K lesson |

I stopped using the synthetics due to the small leaks that spring up when I used it. Once I went back to the mineral based oils the leaks stopped. I generally go the 3000 mile thing myself. I tell you what else I do too; I change it after every track weekend nomatter how new it is. I drive it HARD and the oil temp redlines several times. As soon as I get home I bleed out the brakes (I use that Racing Blue stuff - you just bleed it till it comes out blue again) and drain the oil. I know it may be overkill but I do it myself and I enjoy it. I like "getting my hands dirty" with it almost as much as I do driving it. I can tell you this for sure: It doesn't hurt the car to get fresh fluids in after a hard weekend on the track. Cheap compared to a rebuild ( my car has nearly 86,000 miles. ) |

Tim, note that with synthetic oils you do NOT change the oil based on when the oil breaks down... you change the oil based on how long it takes to get "dirty"... dirty from engine wear, dirty from dust in the air, dirty from water in the air, dirty from the gas, and so on. So, how long depends a lot more on your environment than on the absolute miles driven. Now give we are talking about Ferraris... and hopefully most Ferrari owners are interested in keeping the Ferrari in fine tune... recommendations of 3K-5K miles sounds about right... regardless of synthetic or dino-juice. And given that, there's not a whole lot of incentive to pay much more for synthetic... unless you track the car or otherwise spend a lot of time at high temps/RPMs.

Tim, my car is 31 years old and I do a lot of around town driving. Plus I need the choke on the first few miles and that dumps gas in the oil. I use Penzoil 20-50 and it only takes 4 quarts so it's not a big expense. Filters are $5. |

Tim, I use regular 20/50. I was told by Ferrari to use regular dino on the 308. M |

I change my oil at 3000 miles using Shell Ultra Helix. The time interval is 12 months. |

You guys change the oil so often. If you're running syntheic, intervals should be much more than 1500-3000 unless your car sits and even then oil is good for a year. In a normal car, 10-15k would be norm. Audi serviced my A4 at 5000 miles for the first change (i didnt like this, way to late for a new engine. Im sure the filter was full of break in metal), and then every 15k miles. The only reason to change the oil sooner i guess would be if you dont run an air filter. A buddy of mine runs AMSoil synthetic in his camaro SS, and they recommend 25k invtervals. He had his oil tested when he changed it at 26k and the lab said that the oil was just about at the end of its lifespan. 26k isnt bad for one oil change. Synthetic doesnt break down from heat like conventional oil does, it just gets dirty. but thats what you have the filter for. |

Every 3 months regardless of miles. Overkill perhaps (miles are usually in the 500 range) but what the hell. |

Hans and Peter, Why change your oil? I thought the GT4's leaked so much, all you had to do was change the filter? If memory servers on the GT4, An old t-shirt was the best filter for that car M |

Hey Hans, you're leaving yourself open for one of "The Don"'s infamous GT4's and oil jokes... Mark, if you're logging that much mileage, two changes per year will be fine. |

1500 - 2000 miles. I drive it so much, that the time period is irrelevant. |

Oil Every 3000 / 3 months Filter Every 1500 / 1.5 months When I got it, The oil was very dirty from the car sitting so long. Now it's getting cleaner and cleaner so I am going to up the filter change in couple of months to 3000 has well. It's my daily so the time factor is usually not an issue. |

How often do you change you oil? In particular if you drive your car 5k-10k per annum? |
