Ron, if I can I am going to implement a similar event in the north east. I emailed a few friends and am waiting to hear back from the local dealership. If I could get a location (I'm looking into it), then there really isn't a reason to have it. I emailed Matt Karson about having the FCA Empire group to possibly sponsor/join us.

Dave. I must admit your story is by far the best so far..

Rob should organize something to that line for all nation wide Ferrari chatters..

We should all agree on a charity and the same day nationwide have this happen..

I'm talking media coverage here!

Think about it.. Sponsor involvement, many new Ferrari chatters for us to meet and a worthy cause all in one.. I can see it now.

Kenny, please do. The more kids who can benefit from M-A-W, the better. And the more smiles we can bring to folks who, just like us, have loved & lusted after Ferraris their whole life, by giving them rides, the better!

I regularly go to the local farmers market in Seattle (Pike Place Market) to visit a buddy of mine who owns a pasta bar (also a 71 daytona!). I drove my previous 78 308 GTS there for lunch and when I came out, saw a couple with their young son (perhaps 8 yo), looking over the car. This cute kid had his eyes SO wide, he was obviously a Ferrari fan, and the parents asked if they could take a picture of him next to the car, and I insisted he get in. As he got in, he carefully placed his hands on the wheel and looked over the dash and console as I pointed out the gauges and switches and identifed their function, he nodded knowingly, and smiled and took it all in. I stepped away to let mom take a few pictures then I resumed pointing out a few details about the car, all the while he is smiling and gently brushing his hands over the console controls and pointing to the gauges. After another minute or two I helped him out and asked him if it was his first time in a Ferrari, and his parents laughed and said "we're German, he doesn't know what you are saying..." I smiled at him knowing he understood plenty of what he just experienced.

Dont have my Ferrari but I have a very memorable experience.

I came on this site in Decemeber and started talking to a few guys in the southern-california section. In February, an FCA event came up and not only did Matt (The Don) allow me to ride with him, but he suprised me that morning by bringing 8 other guys in their Ferraris to my house to pick me up and take me to the event. I dont think I will EVER forget that day! It was the day I got my first ride in a Ferrari and frankly...any day when you have 9 Ferraris in front of your house is memorable! The guys in the Southern-California section of this site are the greatest guys in the world and they have all graciously given me some of the most fun I have ever had in my life. Thanks again guys :-)

The picture of all the cars in front of my house is in my profile.

My best Ferrari encounter was probably my first. When I was 13 I met Will (CountachXX) and went for a ride in his 512tr- which basically changed all my whole perspective on cars and gave me a new hobby. I got out of the car with a permanent smile that lasted a few days. What a car!

Since then I've been in a (in no particular order) 308, 550 Barchetta, Enzo(!), Testarossa, 360 F1, 360 Spider, Lamborghini Countach, Lamborghini Diablo Roadster, Daytona, 355 Berlinetta/Spyder, 355 Challenge car and many many more. I'm 18 now so you can only imagine how happy I am with these cars!

My best Ferrari memory is kinda selfish. I was driving my 3.2 Mondial for the very first time. Coming back on a winding parkway near where I live a tricked out Honda decided to see what we could do. I opened the Mondy up and focused on the road. I could hear their engine winding up and it seemed like they were right with me. Nearing the end of the road my wife told me to back off a little. As I did I noted that I did not hear their engine screaming any longer. Turns out it was MY engine I had been hearing...LOL. I was not used to the sound of a Ferrari at full tilt being right by my head. Seems we had blown off the Honda miles back. I fell in love with that sound right then and there. I almost never turn on the radio when I am driving alone anymore

Yes he is Andrew!

He said it looked like I would have a better chance to get the girl with the car than without :-). After all, I did have only 1 week and she was a lot older than me. Hehehe.

Honestly he knows how much I love cars.

Cheers

No, no waiver, as it was not an FCA sanctioned event, and the dealer did not want to do one either. Surprisingly.

We raised over $1,000.

My dad's friend let me drive his TR to a restaurant (Seoul, Korea). While getting out of the car a really attractive hostess complemented me on the ride and asked if it was mine. Dad's buddy said it was while I was midsentence telling her no. After dinner, he gave me the keys and told me to give it back in a week (which is when I'd be flying back to the U.S). By the way, this is in the mid 90's when the TR was pretty much new.

Jaw dropped to the ground and all. Problem was that the traffic is Seoul is horrendous and I don't know my way around enough to find open roads. It spent almost the whole week in the garage :-(. Very nice gentleman, I won't forget his kindness.

Cheers

While driving up to our vacation house in Lake Arrowhead yesterday, I struck a boulder on a blind turn (a rock any other car would have not even noticed) and it bent the plate that covers the throttle linkage between the front tires. Needless to say the throttle got stuck and I had to pull over. After trying to remember every curse word I knew and trying to guess the proper angle to chuck my damned Nextel cell phone off the mountain because of no signal, a fleet of 15 to 20 vipers parks right next to me on the side of the road. All the drivers got out of the cars and came to investigate. I explained the situation and was about to ask for a lift to a phone when 4 guys had the 308 on JACK STANDS and were climbing under the car to remove the plate. Another guy whips out a mallet and bangs the plate into a flat shape again. They reinstalled it. With a fresh liquid gasket and while were getting ready to drive off, I offered lunch and cash for payment but one guy just smiled and said, "You already paided us back. We got photos of us fixing a Ferrari."

Dave, really amazing idea... I am very interested in doing something like that- how much money was raised? Did the people who got rides have to sign a waver first?

That's a great one, Dave. It's easy to begin taking things for granted in life, and nice to see you and others making a contribution.

We (some FCA folks) recently did an event at the San Antonio Ferrari dealer, where we "sold" rides in our cars to the general public, with the money going to Make-A-Wish Foundation. There was a local radio station & a local TV station there, and the turnout was H-U-G-E !! In fact, we had so many people who wanted to buy rides at $10 each that we had to cut off sales, else we run out of daylight!

Anyway, there was a young man who was a quadrapalegic (sp.?) there with his parents. They insisted on paying extra ($30) so that he could get a much longer ride than the 10 minute rides we were giving. It was his lifetime dream.

As it turned out, he queued up as I drove up to the pick-up area, so he rode in my car.

I am unable to articulate in this forum his joy when we came back, and the wonderful conversation we had while we drove for a half hour! And clearly, his joy is far more important than was mine at being able to share this with him.

What is your best Ferrari story?

You can involve any type of situation.. (chicks, highway encounters, dogding an accident or putting a smile on kids face)

I don't care what it relates to.. Just pick the best moment of your Ferrari history..... :-)
