I really don't think too much will change..it's always been "The Hare and the Hound" and by the time the cars have come out of warranty in enough volume the good Independents have always been ready and up to speed. What guys that buy the new cars always neglect to realize is that no one has worked on cars that haven't been built yet, but as soon as they build it, a profesional will be there to work on it for the first time. So dealers work on cars for the first time, bringing only prior experience on a like product, and Independents work on the same things for the first time bringing their prior experience on like products. So it's pretty much like it's always been and will likely continue. Now when manufacturers start building product that no one can work on with just prior experience...look out...lol. |

I think Ferrari will have to start sellig SD-1's & SD-2's. Anyone want to bet the latter will be priced north of $100,000? Authorized North American dealers pay $50,000 for it now, as I recall... |

Didn't see the article, but I think that they are referring to emission related components, so yes OBDII would be inclusive. |

Depends upon what is ment by 'access'. Ferrari already sells the shop manuals for their various cars. These manuals have all the error codes, and what kinds of 'stuff' is required to read out the codes. If this is all that is required, then expect no change from current practice. |

In today's Wall Street Journal, there's an article about how, due to some federal legislation that is supposed to go into effect in September, *ALL* manufacturers selling cars in the U.S. will be REQUIRED to allow access to repair info for independent shops, including, i think, diagnostic codes & info. Anyone up on this to elaborate? Would this potentially mean that your neighborhood 'Norwood' or 'JRV' shop would have all the goods(if they don't already have it)? Article also mentions that altho they have to provide the info to indy shops, they don't have to do it for free, so would be intere$ting to know what Ferrari has in mind as a response. |
