John, 100k sounds right to me. There are some that have different intentions (ie, quick resale, small profit, etc) and work on these micro-thin profit margins. As long as you are keeping the car (as I am keeping my 1998 a long time) you are in the range. Some people picked up Euro cars, some MULTIPLE owners. It sounds like I am like you, I wanted something newer and cleaner. FYI, the 355 market is slowly slipping South, but I personally do not care what I could sell the car for today. I enjoy it too much!

Cheers.

Not sure if this is a good deal or not. But I did it. Comments?:

Yesterday I just bought a 1998, 355 red/tan, 6,500 miles, 6sp, with tubi, and major service for $100,000. Car was looked at for me and described as perfect/new condition.

I found several 95s that could be bought at 75k but I wanted a nicer, newer, lower mileage car. From what I saw the market starts at 75 and ends at 100.

Jordan, there is always something to it. Everyone has a different set of criteria, but for what it is worth the 1998 355 for 63K was a previous rental car, (if it is and I am pretty sure ) the same car I am thinking of.

Sebastian,

I have a 97 355 Spider that is Yellow/Black; pristine; 6-spd with 5K miles that can be bought for around $97-98 if you are interested. It will need the service, Norwoods can typically take care of that for around $4-5K or so.

Call me if you are interested.

Thanks Rob, sounds like a great deal. I just searched www.cctol.com and there are a number of 355s for $75-$100K to look at with and without the major services done. Of course if you demand a dealer car, those prices probably won't happen.

Have to ask Rudy about his mileage, I think that car checked out all the way around. The Spider had higher mileage as represented by the price, I think 35k.

This FerrariChat.com user at our Atlantic City outing got this 1998 for $63k!!!

Body was perfect, engine is in great shape. Only thing noticable were the dash and top needed a little work. The user that bought it is a mechanic himself and it will be easy to get the car up to snuff, this winter he'll be doing the major.

Another user, Rudy Marsh, bought this car in Dallas earlier this year. A 1997 or 98 for $75k. Saw the car in person while he was getting the PPI at Norwoods. Car checked out great and looked great.

One of the main reason for the price variance is the 30k service. All of the FNA dealer's cars had the 30k done. While none of the private sold cars did. You will hear every rationalization from private parties about how great it runs and that you do not need the 30k. Baloney, you need it. It is insurance.

The 30k runs about 6k-7k, if it does not need anything extra (waterpupmp, clutch, etc).

Also, depending on how you negotiate, there is a small premium for buying a 1-2 owner car that was never ran through an auction.

Some of the cars at the dealers are on consignment. The owner may not want to come down in price, then yes it is considered non-negotiable. Best to find a car that the dealer owns as you will have greater bargaining power.

Dealers are funny. When you're buying, the market is as strong as ever. When your selling, the market is soft.

I think you can find a nice 97-98 in the 90's-100k range. A 99' would probably be a bit higher.

I talked to Ferrari dealer in Greensboro NC and he said 355 market was soft and he had too many 355s in inventory. May want to call them too.

3 month's ago I bought a 1997 355 spyder
with 4400 miles from a one owner private
party for 105,000.The car is in showroom
condition and has all service record's.
When I was shopping at the authorized Ferrari
dealer a similar car was going for 125,000!

120k does sound high. The market is still soft for these cars. They are just expecting sales now that it's summer and all. I do agree on the checkbook thing though.

Cheers

Rumor is that there is a 1998 355 spider yellow/black for around $100k with 20k miles at Steve Harris Imports, the FNA dealer in Utah.

there are several users who have gotten spiders (96-98) in the last year with 30k service and warranty from dealers for low 100s. others have gotten them for less from private parties. look and carry cash in hand and you can too. BTW this topic has been beaten to death recently so search the achives

A friend of a friend of mine (see 800 HP thread pic)paid 125k a year ago for the red 355 next to mine. Sometimes when your check book opens you will get "how firm" their price is.

i was thinking about adding a 1997-1999 355 spider to the garage, figuring that I could pick up a nice, low mileage 6 speed for under 100k. Instead I find that the asking price from FNA dealers for 355 spiders remain quite high for a quality, low mileage car. e.g., 1997 spider, 6k miles, 6 speed, fresh major service: $120k and firm. Are these still realistic or are they inflated? I would kind of like a little feedback (read: confidence) before I walk into my dealer with an offer more in the range of 100k.
