Actually the fastest cars DO NOT START. The first class is the 150 mph then 145 and so forth down to 95 then 160..170. 180 and last UNLIMITED. Logic more chance of faster cars breaking thereby delaying or closing the course to following classes. I've run Silverstate 4 times IT'S a blast usually only one or 2 Ferraris out of maybe 200 entrants!! It's a shame as this event IS MADE for them! |

Absolute blast, we have done 4 of them. We want them to open it up for fast sportbikes. Turned down so far. One of my bikes is a Suzuki Hayabusa with a Hahn Race Craft Turbo. 229 RWHP ,pump gas ,street legal. Will do 202 mph according to timing and scoring at El Mirage Dry Lake. Cages are fun ,but bikes are so much more intense. |

Just like Smokey Yunick did with his sub-scale Chevelle back in the '60s if I remember correctly.

Story was the "Big Red" Camaro was built to 9/10ths scale. They were supposed to be production cars, thus they cheated. |

I have an old video of a Silver State Classic race and it's very cool. The fastest cars start followed by each succeedingly slower class, something like 30 seconds or a minute apart per car. Sadly a couple in a Testarossa have a tire blow at around 180, the lady was killed but the guy survived. The winner was "Big Red", a '69 Camaro that hits 220mph on the straights! Yep...that's fast...and this was like 10 years ago. I wish I could get more videos of the more recent events. |

These races are where you choose an average speed. 90mph up to, I think, 180mph. There are classes, i.e. the 120mph class etc. Whoever gets closest wins. There have been a few cases where the speed was perfect. 120.000mph. Have GPS, will travel. I live in Las Vegas and have been planning on doing any number of these, once I can break from my business. Imagine, Driving as fast as you want on a public road, with the support of the police! |

The shop owner that used to work on my 911 set serveral records in unlimited catagory with his modified 993 Turbo averaging around 190mph, thats pretty fast considering this road has some twistys in it The last race he had a rear tire blow at 190+, it took out the rear oil lines which in turn spilled oil and caused the car to get sideways and it rolled 3 or 4 times, he and his wife navigator survived but have had several reconstructive operations There have been a few fatalities but its mostly a safe race, I believe there are also some pics of a guys Pantera that caught fire and burned to the ground.

Wendover is truly in the middle of nowhere. Right in the border of Nevada and Utah. I've heard of these races. Sounds like fun. Too bad I'm a crappy driver with no track experience and I'd probably wrap myself around a rock or something. Cheers |

I've heard about them. Another local guy has been building a hot rod Nova that he wants to run in that race someday. Right now, he's working on a 600 horsepower olds Cutlass and almost has it ready. Don't know if he has actually run any cars there, but he told me about the races.

I am wondering if any know about the legal road races in Nevada? In Wendover, NV (no idea where it is) on 6-19 thru the 22 is a 100 mile race. The record is 180.731 mph for the race. July 25 27 in Battle Mountain, NV is an 83 mile race. In Elko, NV on Aug. 22 -24 is another. Reading the article, these races are on public roads which are closed for the race. Has any done one or know anything about them?? |
