Norm, I already have a pristine 84 308 QV (Euro) sitting in the garage that I enjoy driving. I had been talking to my wife complaining that I need a restoration project and this would be a car for her. It is reassuring that the same dollar figures you have are the ones on my spreadsheet. My estimated offer was $12K-$13K. I agree with you that after I've taken care of all the immediate and noticeable issues, there are always many other skeletons in the closet. I can do 80%-90% of the work myself, but still... It is amazing how quickly a 4 hour drive goes by when you spend the entire time thinking about salvaging a poor Mondial Cab that is sure to be left to rot. I makes my stomach tighten up just thinking about it. Thank you for your input. Sometimes you just need someone else telling you to be very very careful. |

Depending upon body damage, high teens may even be too much for this car. Current asking prices on Mondial QV cabs is in the low to mid 30k range for low mileage cars, with new tops, major service done, accessories, records, etc. 1st new top for Mondial: $1,600-$2,000. 2nd the clutch- transmission problems, could mean it needs a new clutch @$1,300-$2K without a new fly wheel. Add 1K if fly wheel is hammered. if transmission issues, could be worse still. 3rd no tool kit, this is a cheapy: $150-$250. 4th, no major service: $4k-$6k.still need to strip & paint wheels, and fix seat bottoms. This also is not addressing your comment on re-doing brake seals. Now certainly, if you are in a position to perform the work yourself, these cost decrease. This a classic case of you get what you pay for. this car has all the makings of a "cheap" Ferrari, that is destined to be a black hole for your cash to disappear. Then, after you have sunk all of this $'s and energy into the car, you will still end up with a Euro car, with the icing on the cake of a car still with a Salvage Title. And being a euro car, you still will have to investigate EPA/DOT paperwork to make sure valid, as well as has items used to federalize in place. Mondial QV Cab's are great cars, but this sure sounds like one to pass on, unless you can buy the car very cheap. If serious about a Mondial QV cab, there are certainly better deals on the market for better cars without all the risk. |

Driving back from Montgomery, AL today...I found a 1984 Mondial QV Cabriolet for sale. There are many issues with the car, but for the right price, she may be worth salvaging. By the way, I did ask what his target price was and he had obviously been smokin' the good stuff: $23K...yeah right! What would be a reasonable price to offer for the following: - VIN: ZFFLC15B000051679...Can someone help me with a CARFAX report? - Euro car with new TRX tires. - Wheels need refinishing. - Black Ext., Tan Int., Black top - Georgia Salvage Title, but has been repaired and owner has driven car as little as a month or so ago. - Odometer reads 13K miles...obviously this can't be trusted. - Parked outside all the time...recent encounter with a hail storm that put numerous tears in the top. There are several hail dents in the body of the car. - While I looked over the body for only ~5 minutes, no apparent rust...body SEEMED solid, but will look much closer on my next visit. - No records for the car. Owner has no information on last major service, althought FoA has done work on the car. - Clutch / transmission work would be required to ensure good working operation. - New seat bottoms required. - Door panels, seat backs, headrests, and rear seats look in good condition. - There seems to be a good amount of gunk as the base of the shifter inhibiting easy shifting. - No tool kit, but does have jack in original bag and the fuse/light bulb kit. While I didn't ask, I'm guessing there are no manuals. - Spare tire. - I would want to redo all of the brake caliper seals. - Didn't get a chance to go under the car to look at steering rack, underside of engine, etc. What price would be reasonable? |
