Thanks Ron & Lou on sales tax. Does anyone bought Ferrari overseas, and brought to the USA? I heard of EPA-DOT, but don't know how it works. Due to my business, I go to MIlan, Tokyo, Taipei, Vancouver BC etc. Funny I never seen Ferrari in Milan city limit. Although there are couple Ferrari sold dealers I saw. For the first Ferrari I buy, I am not thinking of buying overseas, but for the second one, I am seriously considering. Ferrari price were quite lower in Milan & Tokyo. (only some models) |

Doesn't Oregon have a zero sales tax on cars? I heard of some deals with Oregon registration to "an Oregon address" and the car utimately ending up in the buyers home state after 6 months oweing no tax or was this just bs? |

You'll have to pay sales tax in whatever state you register your vehicle. The only way (I know of) to "save" is when you trade a car ie., you pay taxes only on the difference between the price of the F-car and trade-in value of your car, not the total purchase price.

Sean of Harris immediately got back with me, and he is very kind, and honest. He doesn't have any 328 right now, but he gave me his opinion on selection of 328 offers. I am very impressed! I haven't contacted Martin yet, but checked his site. I sent sales@ to inquire a price, but I haven't gotten back any reply yet. Dave328GTB, your advise "it is more important to buy the right car than worry about a good deal. " made me relaxed a bit. I have strong tendency to put my goal to get a good deal, and sometime it results in buying things I hardly use. Do any of you know that whether I can save on sales tax if I bought a car outside of my residential state? If my current offer didn't work out, I think I'll just fly to FL & CA to check out Ferrari. It may be good on my mental condition to see all those cars available for sale!!! Adrian, how's your newly acquired car driving? |

Yoshi, If the dealers cannot provide a warranty, then I would not be concerned about the dealer "taking care of me". Any potential repair would be paid by you, so what does it matter? In fact, you can take the car to any independent mechanic. Buying interstate can be a problem unless you are able to see the car first, drive it for extended periods AND get a comprehensive PPI and CARFAX. If you believe the car is a good buy after all that, arranging for transportation should be easy. Many here have done it. |

I am on my eight Ferrari, and most where bought from a Ferrari dealer. The best deal was ALWAYS buying a car on consignment, from a dealer. The last three I bought from the dealer, I didn't drive till after the purchase. A PPI is still a good idea. I bought one from a dealer, and the synchros where bad......they didn't want to admit it. Overall, though, I had good luck. |

One more thing......... I have found that it is more important to buy the right car than worry about a good deal. With Ferraris, it's hard to tell how good a deal a car is until you have had it for a while. Good luck, Dave |

I have been treated good and bad by both dealers and private people alike. Best thing is to pay for a PPI either way. Dave |

Yoshi, As others have already stated, call Sean at Harris Imports in Salt Lake City. He can find you a good car and will stand behind what he sells.

I am considering for the dealer already, but there's only one here FofDallas. My original salesman left the dealer in April or May, and I didn't know about it till I called to check the status. I have a new salesman, and he found 2 cars for me which I listed in anoother thread. "Take care of me" was told by this salesman, and he has been helpful. FOD has many cars "consigned" as I was told. I know these dealers you all advised, and checked their sight several times. One problem is that they are not local here. If I have a problem, they won't be able to help me, right? (unless I transport the car there) If any of you bought a car interstate, please comment how it worked for you & after-service. Since I am buying used car w/out Ferrari warrantee, the dealer can TAKE CARE of me, but FOD said there is no warrantee. |

I would be very wary of the they'll "take care of you" approach. If they say they are going to take care of you, put it in writing. Especially, what are they going to take care of you for. It is easy to take care of nickel/dime items, especially on a car sold with a high margin. But, what about if a major problem develops? Also, what about the logistics. this sounds good, unless the dealer you buy the car from is a distance away. Also you may want to consider the "Lemon Law" in the state that the car is puchased in. Many/most states have laws that require a dealer to stand behind a car, regardless of time, cost, and miles. This varies from state to state, so you will need to do your homework. Another major item to consider is certainly the cost. If you are saving X $'s from the purchase price by buying from a private party, this certainly gives you a reserve fund to cover items that arise. However, there is always the possibility that this price difference dealer vs private party may not cover what comes up. |

Private party sale doesn't necessarily ensure the best price. I searched for my first F-car for 6 months, and found the best price at an authorized F-dealer, Steve Harris Imports (Salt Lake City). The cars they sell have had recent major service. I was treated like a VIP. My experience with them has been unforgettable to this day. I also didn't have a PPI done, which is highly recommended when buying second-hand Ferrari's. But no regrets. Almost 6 months have passed and I've had no problem with my 328. Their website is www.ferrarisales.com. They have a few Mondials and 348s in their inventory. Ask for Sean Harris(the owner). I think a good number of guys here have had similar experiences. Good luck on your search. |

Sport Auto in Greensboro, NC has been great with me. I bought a 348 from them back in March. In fact Tom Jones (on site mechanic) helped me out of jam today with a bad ECU on my 348. Talked me through troubleshooting it over the phone. Now I can go on my long distance drive tomorrow without (too) much worry. You'd have to talk to them about a warranty. http://www.sportauto.cc |

I agree with PeterS. Ferrari of Washington has done everything A+ by me on my recent first Ferrari! Everything they agreed to as part of the purchase was taken care of 100% |

Yoshi...I would be REAL careful about the 'TAKE CARE OF ME' statement from anyone but the most highest-end Ferrari dealer you can find. A pre-owned FCar from a VERY reputable FCar dealer is not a bad way to go. These types of dealers have too much on the line to sell you a second rate car. Though you can get a better price by a thousand or two, a private party will probably not stand behind problems you will or may have with the car. At least a good dealer would discount the labor and maybe sell you parts at cost if there is a major issue after the purchase. On an FCar, I would find a happy-medium price by a respective dealer (i.e.: between a private price and a dealers best negotiated price). Case in point: I purchased my '77 308 from a Ferrari dealer North of SF. After the sale, they advised me that the car needed a smog. The car has no smog equipment on it! The took immediate action to provide the parts at no cost to get me on the road, no screwing around. Granted, they are on the hook to do this, but they treated me like I just paid cash for an Enzo. Also, you can find great deals at a dealer. This is because they have decent margin in the sale of new FCars and they can budge more than a toyota dealer can on a pre-owned trade. |

I have been looking some Ferrari for 4 months (seriously for 3 weeks) now, and I want to make sure I understand correctly. I am looking for 328, 348, and Mondial now. Dealer salesman told me these are too old for Ferrari to give warrantee, and if I bought a car from them, they will TAKE CARE of me (w/ or w/out charge depends on a problem) but there won't be any warrantee. Leasing company advises their shop will take care of maintenance if I wish, and will give 90 days warrantee, and also advised a couple private shops who does Ferrari. Private party is same deal as buying non-Ferrari. For best price, private party is the best. Is there any advantage of buying a car from Ferrari dealership for models I am interested in? Is leasing company, who handles fair amount of Ferrari reliable enough to buy & get a service? I suspect they may be sub-contracting to Ferrari specialist and charging to customers. Could this be common? And finally, is there warrantee program I can buy for these cars? If so, please advise the name, tel number, e-mail address, etc. |
