An few Enzos have come past my office... They sounded like mopeds.... pathetic.
Perhaps they're better at WOT.

don't know if they were tubied. it was inside a cavernous garage so there may have been some echo effect as well. it was a very mechanical rasping sound, idle rpm was pretty high i thought, and it did sound like the revs needes to be quite high while engaging the clutch, so all that may have added to the sound.

Yes, Ferrari of New England had F40, F50 and Enzo next to each other - interesting to see 3 different shades of red. The F50 they just sold had a full Tubi system (headers thru to exhaust) and sounded amazing.

Rijk
Enzo's have an exhaust shunt that opens at 4000rpm. This is to meet Euro noise regs. Above 4000rpm they sound much louder.

Ross,

I've heard several start up, they were anything but loud. Were these Tubied?

they were all red with black interiors (standard italian color choice). i was very impressed with the fit and finish for such a low volume car. there is no wasted space or surface etc, every part and contour of that car looks like its there just for the purpose of going faster. frankly they made everything else there look pedestrian, except for the f50 (which however was in several pieces and getting an overhaul).

I saw one yesterday up close at Ferrari of Seattle. They had arranged an F40, F50 and Enzo all in a row. Quite impressive. Interesting to note a number of similarities between the F50 and Enzo as far as the engine and radiator/cooling fans. Those ceramic brakes are amazing to see.

am in rome for a few days on biz/pleasure, so i went over to my favorite place: the ferrari dealers prep and used car facility. saw 3 enzos being prepped for delivery. unbelievably loud when they start up. carbon fibre everywhere. looked very comfortable. lots of other 'regular' ferraris of all stripes - just a ferrari overload to the senses basically.
one thing to make you feel good stateside is that the prices are definetely not the good deal that they were 2-3 years ago. the currency difference and reasonable local economy (plus a few world championships later, it must be said), have depleted the cheapies.
will try to post pics once i'm back at the office.
