Don't like the shields either, if it came with it embedded then Oh well but if there was an option I'd be without it. Adding the shield reminds me of a lot of cars that have either too many badges or stickers on their car like having a identity crisis, besides I also agree on a clean look. If you add a shield, I'm sure in time you'll get some evidence of shield marking remaining after removal. Again it's personal preferance so you do what makes you pleased.

Am told this option is most popular on U.S. cars. Wouldn't order a car this way, but wouldn't be a deal-breaker on a used one. I'm with those who say to each their own.

I have two words.... Silly looking!

Well maybe a few more... I think they break up the lines of the car and the overall look. I mean you're following those smooth curves with your eyes and then BOOM there's this bump in the road.

I love the clean look.

Jim E - LMAO

I'm with Doody, whatever floats your boat, but I don't care for them.

Before owning a F car I remember seeing either a 348 or 355 going down the hwy with shields and I thought 'who is he trying to impress'.. seems that they are too large... but now as an owner, I do appreciate the ones that are factory stamped into the body... but prefer the clean lines without them...

Shields on my beast would be like the word "PORSCHE" on the side of one of them. Thankfully, they don't do that anymore.

My 308 didn't have the shields. My Testarossa doesn't have the shields. IMO, a street only Ferrari doesn't need anymore badges to certify that it is in fact a Ferrari. I do, however have 2 Scuda shields on the back tail gate of my cherokee.

I have these:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2418211878&category=34204

They are perfect, much better looking in real than in this picture. And I won the auction for 80 Dollars, which is 80 Euros including shipment to the Netherlands! (Strong Euro, ha)
I did have to wait 3 months though, high demand, slow supply.

I have the enameled shields on my black 308 and they look great. Got them from Paul Bianco, very nice. Stuck them on with 3m
double sided tape, heavy duty. Go for the ones with slightly less curve , Paul will know the ones.

On certain colors like Pozzi Blue, I think they can look good (black too, but black has that stealthy appeal that dictates they go without). On colors like silver, I think it looks a bit silly, disrupting the lines.

This is not a plug, but if anyone is interested, I sell the metal Scuderia Shields. They are NOT the decal or plastic type. Martin embedded them on his 348. They can also be installed with double stick tape or epoxy. Email me direct for info and pictures. Cost is $200 per pair plus postage. Have sold many pairs.

Jon and others, don't worry about it. Do what you please and move on, it ain't no freakin' big deal. I had shields on my 308, but have chosen not to on my 328...but maybe I'll change my mind later... :-)

Hello, Jon. I have Scuderia Ferrari Shields on both my Ferraris: 328 GTS (magnetic) and 550 (metal enamel). I love the shields.

Typically, the purist looks down on putting the SF shields on cars like the 360s, 355s, 348s, 328s, and 308s. They believe it should be only on 12 cylinder front engine cars.

Then you have sub-set of those purists that believe the SF shields should only be on the racing cars.

I like them, and I really don't care about the thoughts of the purists. If you like them, put them on.

I have the magnetic ones on my 328, so when I show my car, I remove them. It does leave a tan line, but with polish, you can buff out the tan line, which is real small and light -- real negligible.

I like to put shields on my floormats. And wax them using a license plate frame.

We've come full circle yet again. Who had June 6 in the pool?

LOL, Paul...you fooled me on that one...thought you had lost it there for a minute!

I personally like the shields, and currently have the dealer supplied resin adhesive 3-D variety on mine. Been thinking about "upgrading" to the enamel ones with the adhesive backing...will probably do that soon.

Don't worry, I know this is a 'Sacrilege'. This topic usually seems to get quite heated and when I saw the thread come up I quickly went and staged some photos with my magnectic shields.

I actually do like them (only 2 of them on the sides, that is), even though the racing gods didn't officially put them there on my car.

to expand on James G.'s historical note - back in the days when odd-serial numbered cars were the production street cars and the racers were even-numbered serials, only the Ferrari factory team racers had the SF shields.

My dad's car, 0556MD, was sold to a privateer in May 1955 without the shields. When it was sold back to the factory 5 months later, the factory put shields on it and ran it as a factory entry in the GP of Venzuela.

I think some of the first privateers to put the shields on their racers were J. Von Neumann and R. Ginther in California.

as others have said, it's your car - go for it. The shields certainly recall how the Ferrari legend was born - on the track.

James,

Aaaaack. It's Alfa not Alpha.

And I believe you are right: the first scuderia Ferrari cars were alfa's.

I've heard that the first time a ferrari beat an Alfa at the race track Enzo supposedly said "I feel like I've killed my mother"

Jon, do the shields... Martin (Cavallino) had the embedded shields done on his former 348... and others have had it done on their 355's. That would be awesome, too. Do a search in the archives and you'll find some great pictures.

I personally LOVE them on just about any F-car.

Get the 3D resin sticker kind, affix to magnetic sheet, cut around.

It's a FERRARI, it's allowed exactly one sticker, and one loud muffler. ;)

Best!
Ben.

I did not like the way they looked in pictures on 308 cars, but after seeing one w/badges in person I changed my mind. I have magnetic ones and remove them at will.

Not exactly. At first these shields were painted on cars from Mr. Ferrari's "Racing Stable". I believe the first cars they appeared on were the Alpha's he raced. Over the years he affixed them to F Factory race cars. At a later point privateers put them on their F race cars. After that the factory put them on special cars such as the 288 and F40. After that the factory offered them as options on various street cars. It's your car, make yourself happy.

Jon,

I have normal stickers on. Its already my second set on the car and it doesnt do any harm to the paint.
The enamel shields look absolutely gorgeous when embedded into the fenders. Really stylish IMO.
Sadly the shields as well as the embedding costs a small fortune and after all its just a cosmetical thing.
Think I will probably do this when my car is absolutely PERFECT but not yet.

It's your car, do what you want. I have them on my white 328 and they look great! Don't have them on my red 348. Personally, I like them. Go for it. Don't listen to what others think, opinions are usually worth what you pay for them!

Badges are available as an option from the 355 series and newer. Before that, they're reserved for the modern limited series cars and factory racing cars (mostly).

My understanding is that this is an 'Earned' badge from tracking your car for a weekend by an authorized Ferrari sponsored event (Correct???). I am guilty of the sin! I bought the badge for my car because it looks great, but did not 'earn' it The badge is of decent quality, more than a 'sticker', its quite thick. I placed it on a thin magnet sheet and cut around the edges. It comes off for washing, etc. It just looks damn good!

First I had the stick ons and now the real enamel ones. Totally love them.

The stick ons came off fairly easy, no damage to the paint, just had to clean it thoroughly, no biggie.

There are different types of the enamel ones, so make sure they fit your car. Send me an email if you need details.

Do a search........this thread gets very heated.....some people HATE them, some love them......I LOVE THEM.. I think they look nice and I have them on my car......(the sticky 3D resin shields).....no harm to the paint if you want to remove them...P.S. you can buy them usually for 12 - 15 dollars......order 1 extra...someone will steal them at some point....but for 15 dollars every 2 years, it doesn't matter. :-)

If they originally came on the car, I think they should remain.

Why stop with the Scudi shields? If you like to add stickers to your car why not add Magneti Marrelli and Agip stickers too?

What the general opinion of putting on Scuderia shields on your car. And if you put on the stick on type, what does it do to the paint if you want to remove them. My car is a 355B.
