I knew that Ford would fail with the new TBird. I think America would welcome the 'panache'of owning an exact repplica of the oldies. |

Well, maybe. The current T-Bird is a modernized version of the original and it isn't doing so well. Detroit won't produce an exact copy, but will create a modern rendition of a classic design. Such Retro designs are pretty prevalent already. Many of Chryslers niche vehicles are modern renditions of popular Ford models: Viper=Cobra Viper GTS=Cobra Daytona Coupe PT Cruiser=Ford Delivery Van Prowler=Ford Roadster The new Mustang will be retro as well. |

I have often thought that if Detroit reproduced exact models of cars they built in the 50's and 60's, they would probably have a strong market. Take the new TBird. If they made a '57 with all of the safety updates, I think it would be a hot seller. Same goes for the '67 Chevelle, '69 Camero SS, Mustang and a '64 Bonneville 2D drop-top with a 3-duece 389 engine. Getting back to basics in business often pays tenfold..Would this work? I would buy a '57 Chevy if it had airbags! |
