So Yoshi, have you finally had a chance to drive the 328 you were waiting for? Or are you still considering the Mondial? Summer's ticking by...don't wait too long.

Scott, I read threads you started, and we are in similar situation. I realized Ferrari buyers go through just the same (well after all, it is buying a car so the process must be similar)
My friend is looking for 456 also. Looks sophisticated! For 4 seater, I was thinking of Mondial Spider and that's our difference. (also I have 4 kids)
Based on my research, price seems to lower in winter, and if you are buying from dealers, there were some deals after X'mas. These were not advertised, and dealers will e-mail you. (this is only true if these dealers fiscal year closes in Dec. and not all dealers has same fiscal year cycle)
I decided to buy now to satisfy my thirst for Ferrari.

after the new garage is finished, might want to consider a car lift to double your parking space.

Ouch can't park a new black $89k SUV outside. It's still scratch-free after 3500 miles! I can wait a few months for the Ferrari!! :-)

Peter:

Currently 2 spaces are filled by a 2000 Porsche 996 C2 cab and a 2003 Porsche Cayenne Turbo. Outside sits my wife's 1995 Mercedes E320 cab and the workhorse 2001 Dodge Ram.

Moving to a new house this summer, building a new 3 car garage, there are already 2 covered carports there for the dodge and benz. So there will be a ferrari space available later this summer. :-)

Scott..Garage space? What could be more important to have in your garage than an FCar? List your garage items and we will all bid on them and you will have the room:-)

The car is still depreciating. It will probably bottom out at $40k or so when its 15 years old. All Ferraris with back seats suffer this fate, but they're more practical and comfortable than the more sporting ones. Buy it when it makes the most sense financially for you.

Peter -- agreed. I have the money but not the garage space until August or September. So I'll probably start looking seriously then! :-)

Scott..Heres my gut feeling: If you have the money, buy it now. If you don't, you will probably have this same question next spring. The prices may fall a bit in the dead of Winter, but you will be butt-hurt because you can't drive it as much. There is no feeling worse than that one! Then you would have lost a great Summer and Fall of driving. Fcars are best to buy when you find the one you feel comfortable with, regardless of the time of year.

For the best deal, I would consider the week between Xmas and New Year. I bought my first Fcar years ago with a cash low ball offer for a 328. The dealer booked a sale and reduced inventory for the year end closing and I got the car for a great price.

I'll second the advice... prices are a bit depressed in late fall and winter... but far more important is finding the right car (right history, right owner, right price). But in your situation (able to look now, but not really wanting to get it until Aug/Sept) is about perfect... because it'll be easier to be patient and wait for the right car knowing that you don't really want it the first 2-3 months and then prices are dropping a bit for the next six months... should give you plenty of time.

Oh, and enjoy the search... the looking and test driving. ;^)

Scott,

I've been tentatively looking for 456s as well. The general advice is to try to get a 456M. Less problems and probably cheaper in the long run. The Modificata model has the recurring problems of the 456 sorted.

Do a search on "family car" as the topic header. I think that's what I called it. Best of luck in your search. Be patient and get the right car. It might take some time for it to roll along, but it'll be worth it. That has been the general concensus of the board as far as purchasing advice to me.

Cheers

Thanks John, I agree.

Anyone see a nice 456gt out there, pref. 1995 with window problems fixed? This blue one on ebay is nice, seller will sell for $75k.

i have bought all three of my ferrari's in the winter. yes you may save 10k at the most but having the car sit in your garage for 3 months is brutal.

i would be more concerned about finding the right car as opposed to getting a 'good' deal.

John,
Actually I cant get it right now b/c the garage for it wont be ready until August. Which is why I wonder if I should wait till the fall to get a better deal or get it now and move our Cayenne Turbo outside. (Would rather not do that!). So I really need to wait a bit but curious if time of year at all affects the pricing.

I think I'm settling in to get a 456GT, seems like an incredible deal for a v12 446 hp ferrari (mid 70s). However I'm trying to decide if I should wait till fall or winter to really search for one to buy -- I know this time of year, when the sun comes out, everyone wants a new car. In the winter there will be fewer buyers, though I'm sure also fewer cars available....

Think I'll get a better deal by waiting for winter, or just have fewer cars to choose from?
