Gabe,

This might be redundant if you know already but I think Rijk's reason for having that little shield in the back is the gray Daytona he has as a stablemate to the Cayenne.

LOL...Porsche with a Ferrari sticker? Just a small identity crisis going on there.

Ferrari is smart not to 'follow' the SUV trend, because that's all it will ever be, a trend. Ferrari sets the pace of sports cars and other car manufacturers follow Ferrai's style...that's how it will always continue.

Lamborghini had the ultimate SUV (LM002) in the 80's. Though ugly, its was one of the few SUV's in its time that could reach roughly 180+ mph. With its 74 gallon fuel cell and slightly larger bored Countach engine gave it a range of appx. 600 miles. No other SUV to date has met that challenge.

the laforza is an italian bodied vehicle that is assembled in california using ford bronco running gear. the vehicles are based on the the italian "magnum" military vehicle designed to withstand a bomb. you can still see them occasionally in italy (we saw one recently that was a police vehicle).

the chasis and the the body are so heavy duty that they were the first vehicle to "exceed the barrier" in dot crash testing. all the vehicles are based on 1989 manufactured chasis so they are not required to meet current dot specs even though you can buy a new model year vehicle. although the early cars had minor electrical problems, the newer ones are said to be very reliable. there is also a large degree of "factory"support for parts and service can be done by any ford dealership or mechanic (remember the bronco running gear). many people have referred to this truck as the "ferrari" truck due to the pininfarina relationship. i would be curious to hear from anyone who has had one or driven one. they are very cheap to buy in the used form and very expensive in the new form (around $60k). as for the styling, keep in mind these were designed in the mid eighties. compare this truck with any other mid eighties truck and the style and design are incredible.

dont see Ferrari EVER producing anything but sports cars/sedans...

Maserati, ... now THATS another story... i'm sure theres a few designers at Pinifarina chomping at the bit to design a SUV for Ferrari .. so if a design hits their fancy it will no doubtedly be given to Maserati... that Marque can hold up an SUV... i dont believe Ferrari can...

hence the Kubang... Ferrari engineering wrapped in a Maserati bow...

but they gotta do something about that name...

GT

ps i forget,,, did Pininfarina design the Kubang or did Guiguaro (sp?)?

pps heard rumors that even the future grandson of the 456 might be given to Maserati leaving Ferrari to concentrate on 2-seater sports cars and the 4XY the highest-end Maserati....

My wife will use her Trubo Cayanne off road in the mud and snow and to pull horse trailer. I'll use it to tow as well. The variable ride height is very usefull.

I used to think the ML55 was ugly, but the drive was nice and the low end torque was nice so i picked one up. Now that is one of our family's "all time highest miles ever put on a car before we sold it" cars. We just passed 30k. ;)

Ferrari will not make an SUV. My chips are on the maserati marquee instead - which i wouldn't be surprised to see in a few years.

The only off-roading that Cayenne will see is when someone backs over the rose garden. :-)

What is the purpose of an SUV when you will never use the sport or the utility part of it?

the cayenne is the ugliest auto made. the new bubby suvs are the last straw in the death of the suv. Just wait. The late 90's suv fervor is over and suvs will now decline in sales every year for several years.... Damn porsche has removed all panache from the cars and made them in the most common part style. Porsche is almost off the list of cool cars. Afew more years of bubby rides and they will have lost any cache that they once held with the 930 turbo.

PLEASE dont destroy the fcar style with a mayonaise suv !!!

The closest that Ferrari should ever come to an SUV is the 456.

THAT'S IT!!!

The Cayenne Turbo does not say it's a Porsche, so the shield confuses many people.

Has anybody heard anything about the Laforza?
Quote from Car and Driver
# "Laforza. It means 'the force, power or strength' in Italian. And although it uses an American Ford V-8 engine and a Chrysler four-wheel-drive system, the Laforza is indeed Italian. It has a suspension derived from a Fiat-built army truck, a sumptuous leather interior, and an all-steel body that spends nine hours going down the same Pininfarina line where the Ferrari Testarossa and the Cadillac Allant are painted."

Adam, Kuzi,

I feel the same way, I just had to respond to that specific comment.

Reality catches up though. Wife is bugging me about a family car. I brought up the 456 and that got her thinking, but I think eventually I'm going to have to get a bigger car. But that's what the Kubang is for! If Maserati makes it. She likes the Cayenne, but only if it's a Turbo.

As for Ferrari, I sure hope that the Kubang is the closest they'll get to one.

Cheers

LM is a much harder vehicle to drive. I drive the hummer almost every day, the LM only comes out a couple of times a month. When you drive the LM you have to use both hands and both feet all of the time, it is very difficult to even talk on the cell phone without an earpiece. the hummer practically drives itself and everyone moves out of your way :-) the LM they just want to drive beside you and look...

I took my LM American out for a drive today, I think I get more attention in the LM than in any other vehicle I own... Also, it is a lot of fun to drive a V12, 5 speed monster of a truck. it is in a class of its own.

Well if they did, I hope it would be as good as when Lambo made there truck. I mean truck, not SUV, as the LM is too good to be termed meerly a SUV. :-)

I have a Cayenne Turbo and love it. Great vehicle and a blast to drive. And it gets tons of attention from all types if that's what you're looking for. Everyone in real life seems to love them, despite all the posts putting it down.

No, I don't see the point in a Ferrari SUV and the Ferrari wagon that was made, is a special one of a kind modification based on the 456gt for the Sultan of Brunei..

I must be one of them clueless yuppiewagon buyers,,, because I'd like to buy an X5 4.4 or Cayenne in a few years as an everyday driver, in anticipation of someday being able to have a Ferrari... They hardly have the "wow" factor as someone said, but they're much more stylish than a Lexus, or whatever it is Soccer moms are buying nowadays...

I am sure Enzo is rolling around in his grave just by the mention of Ferrari possibly producing an SUV. The Porsche Cayanne is just another YuppieWvagan like the MB and BMW SUV's a market ploy to attract the clueless with disposable cash.

That's probably the closest Ferrari will come to an SUV. I might be interested in the Kubang.
