It's ok :-) My office still holds me in myth. They're trying to figure out how someone so young drives such nice cars :-) Doesn't bother me, actually some of the "tales" about me are quite funny. If people took half the effort on fine-tuning their finances as they do watching the reality crap on TV, there would be a lot more millionaires.

...but what do I know, I'm just a 22 year old with a viper :-) They will really start to raise eyebrows when I buy a Ferrari. No matter that it's 20 years old and half the cost of my viper... the mere name instantly means $$$$.

Darn it.. got sidetracked again..Sorry james.. Gonna let dave preach and ignore it. I really hope he gets the chance to feel the pain of others in need. I'll be busy enjoying the Florida sun and telling the bleeding hearts to F off.

Gee dave... I am really hurt. And If you were able to read you would note that I said it was HIS office that kept track . I am up on the details of this case and have followed it since it was highlighted on one of the news shows. My choice of words like "wise " were thought out prior to being used. Many crooks are extremely intelligent or tuned to what they can get away with. I would have to say this fellow took white collar theft to a new level. The fact that he was able to make fools out of those that knew him does not show how trusting they were, it shows how sharp he was.
IF you are so up on this matter you might mention that the majority of the money was unclaimed and would have gone into the state account. His acts were criminal but my amusement is at his getting one over. Don't try to make this into a crine of tragic proportions. It reminded me of Richard Pryor in one of the superman movies.. he found a way to steal pennies out of each check... and what did he buy first... A new Ferrari.
Grow up dave... what this guy did was criminal sure.. but for a guy that says he's not a liberal you sure seem to be taking the pain and suffering of strangers too seriously. And for such a smart guy I have to wonder.... how did you not get a clue that something was up when he had over a Million dollars in cars and worked a 28k job? If he had an oil royalty that would cover that he would not waste time with a 40 hour job for 28K. Anyone that believes that needs help.

James, I don't know where the car is now. I imagine Sheehan sold it rather quickly. Why not call him & ask him where it went? You'll propably get at least a city.

Jeff, you posted "He was wise enough to take cash that would not be missed.. esp since his office kept track of the account."

First of all, it was HE who was doing the keeping track--that's why the scam went on as long as it did.

Second, I have never heard committing multiple FELONIES called "wise". You have an interesting perspective on white collar crime, eh? Is your real name "Bernie Ebbers" or "Jeff Skilling" or "Fast Andy Fastow", perchance??

Third, you also posted "If none of the people around him, And I do mean ALL, did not notice that something was going on then he deserved to get away with it as long as he did." This is patently absurd. Many people hold non-ostentations jobs yet have family money that allows them to live VERY nice lifestyles, especially here in Texas where many people have oil royalty income. I know several people just like this, who make huge amounts of money from trusts, etc., yet work as accontants, mechanics, etc.

Why would those "around him" interrogate him further when he provided that explanation for his unusual lifestyle? Surely, as a conservative/libertarian, you would not appreciate those around you prying into your private life, would you? Your "logic" doesn't hold up, and your amusement at the misfortune and/or criminal behavior of others speaks volumes.

Since you don't care of others' opinions, I assume you will not respond to this.

Bruce... Asking very respectfully...why should I concern myself with such things as how some here feel about me? As I said. I do not think of respect as a social behavior. From the usual behavior I see here.. flames are the norm if any person does not agree. As a "newbee"( gotta laugh at that.. I have 2 decades of track and wrench time) I have seen excessive ego, marque bashing, rudeness and other "respectful" posts in just the last 72 hours from veterans. Also I have made several posts that were very well recieved with no flames. What does this tell me? I guess if I am to follow your views I will just play nice and not express any opinion that might make you think less of me. ROFL.. right.. maybe after you mean something in my life or earn my respect.

AS an added note.. I don't laugh when I see a pit worked get bumped or a track official get nailed. thats scary and they are just doing a job. But when I see some fool get what they deserve for not knowing their limits.. yeppers.. that funny.

HUmm.. my points still stand. I understand probate very well.. and everything I said is accurate. He was wise enough to take cash that would not be missed.. esp since his office kept track of the account. It was only when someone found out they ahd a dead relative and wanted what they assumed was theirs to claim that he was caught.
For the record I also laugh when I see some fool get in over their head and wreck their car, such as the video of a rich idiot driving a new F50 off the track and into a office front during a track day. Like Henry Ford II said when he was arrested with a woman that was not his wife "never complain, never explaine". Thats the best answer... If none of the people around him, And I do mean ALL, did not notice that something was going on then he deserved to get away with it as long as he did. AS for calling you a Liberal.. I apologise.. it is an insult.. but I usually only see liberals crying over such crap.
And Taek... you have already shown me that you are a PC person.. you want us all to just get along.. nice dream. Lucky for me I don't have to get along with any here. Having a good lifestyle did not make me feel guilty for others. Where I come from respect is earned and not expected just as a social behavior. If that offends you.. tough...

Jeff, lighten up yourself. Sorry--no holier than thou here. And no, there are no lawsuits pending against the state. The local DA has sold a good chunk of the stuff Mel bought with his crime, and returned that money to the families. The rest will be auctioned off this month, I believe. BTW, this is the first time I have EVER been confused with a liberal. Did I really deserve that insult??

And, before you turn turd on me & the familes, perhaps you might want to acquint yourself with the rules of probate. It's what happens when people die with no will. Has nothing to do with whether family members know of the death or not.

I'm no bleeding heart either...but stealing is stealing, and in my book, what Mel did was like a funeral director taking a gold watch off a corpse before putting it into the casket.

I will leave you with your own advice: Keep your holier than thou attitude for anyone that cares.

Have a nice day.

Dave.. lighten up. Not being a bleeding heart I tend to laugh when people are too dumb to notice the obvious. From what I read he only stole from estates that had no pending family claim. His office was going to sell the estate goods and hold the cash, then if unclamied, it would go to the state. So it comes down to the state stealing it or this clown stealing it.
As for what it says about me... that I don't care what some liberal thinks of my sense of humor. Also that I was raised to question when things don't seem right and only fools accept and assume. I damn well bet there is a suit pending against the state by the "poor abused" families that hope to score some cash when they didn't even know their dear, dead family member had passed. Keep your holier than thou attitude for anyone that cares.

Holy Cow, that's a TachPak digital dashboard!

I had one of those in my FF2000 car. Outstading dash. Had a heads up display with shift and warning lights you could mount inside your helmet visor.

He had an FCA event at his home in late 2000--that's where I met him. I wondered how he could afford all that crap, given that his home was modest, at best, in a very downscale neighborhodd. In fact more of his lot was covered with extra garage-mahals he had built to house his collection that by the house itself. He gave the subtle impression that he had family money (in retrospect, that was true--but it was someone else's family money!!). I never learned what he did for a job until he was indicted.

And, Jeffrey, I am not sure how you could laugh at such a horrible story. This man vicimized dozens & dozens of familes in their worst hours & times of need. And you laugh at that?? What does that say about you???

This was one of Mel Spillman's cars. You'll remember, he's the guy now sitting in jail here in Texas for stealing millions of $ from people's estates as a probate clerk & then buying all sorts of Ferraris & Ferrari paraphrenalia (sp.?) with it. I saw this car, an have a bunch of photos of it, in Mel's Garage-Mahal right before he got caught & arrested.

Does anyone have any info on this car? It's a black 308 that has been converted to a 288 look. It has/had a big spoiler in the rear attached also. Looks like a QV motor turned longitudinal with a porsche transaxle (?). I have some pics from various sites, but I'd like to know more about the conversion and the specs.

Thanks
James
