I am going to try an independant for the first time. Shelton in Lauderdale has been my agent but for a Belt change they want twice as much as I can get it done for by a shop I was referred to in Jupiter. As for building a future relationship for other purchases I usually shop my cars out across the country so no one dealer would be helpful. |

Assuming equal competence & honesty, though, wouldn't you be better off using an authorized dealer if you want to build that relationship as a prospective buyer of new cars? Not knocking independents at all, until I bought a Challenge car, I'd always used independents for race work and been extremely pleased. |

yup - absolutely what kennedy said. in some areas you'll find independent shops with higher labor rates than factory shops. there's no absolute rule on any of this stuff. you want the best shop in your area, and that might be either. doody |

Quality service from honest people. That can be found from either factory authorized dealers or independent shops. The better question is "What's the best shop in [my area]?" In Dallas, for example, you can comfortably take your Ferrari to either Ferrari of Dallas or Norwood Performance (independent shop). Good people at both places.
