David, panels do not need to come off to mount the mirrors. |

David - Cheers! My wheels are the 14" originals, I think (it's a late Series 2 car). I hadn't thought of changing, but when this thread started I looked at Robert's picture on his profile - those 16" ones look fantastic. When compared to my car from the same angle it's quite a difference so somewhere down the line I may upgrade! As regards the door trims - like Andrew says it's easy: I didn't even need the clip tool. There are screws in the bottom, a couple under the trim in the door pull / door pocket area (the trim itself just lifts off) and of course remove the locking tab and door handle release. After that the whole panel should pop right off - just watch out for the wires to speakers and the courtesy light. Worth making a note of which terminals they go to before you disconnect.

Steve Your GT4 looks good on your profile! What wheels/size? Mirrors duly ordered from the very helpful Ferrari UK... any tips on getting the door trim panels off? |

I'm jealous of you southerners who can "just call in" at Ferrari UK. The nearest specialist to me (Newcastle) is... well: Ferrari UK actually. I Agree the Vitalonis look the biz... but I find them quite fragile. I've lost three so far in car park incidents (non malicious, I think). At only 40 a go it's still worth it for the look tho... |

Dave, driving is more important than pics, but we will want to see the car eventually! I replaced my 1 mirror with 2 Vitalonis. Useless for rear vision but hey look correct. Superformance headers I can vouch for. I am extremely pleased with mine (I replaced the front header a month ago.) It bolted right in. The only regret I have is not checking the flange holes, I would have preferred .375 to bolt it to the muffler.

David, if your going to get bigger wheels, QV in London had a good deal last year on 16"'s (not sure if its still on), As for the exhaust as well as Tubi (you just can't beat that sound!) superformance do a silencer for about 600 and manifolds for about the same, and Stainless-exhaust.com in nottingham also do'em (cheapest of the lot for 400i exhausts) |

Hi David, Congrat's on the car! And you're based in Surrey, so not too far from us then! Just to let you know we have been appointed by the Factory to look after spare parts for any Ferrari that has been out of production for longer than ten years. Check out www.owners.ferrari.com which is an Owners-only site from which you can access our online spare parts catalogue. Of note we have the California Vitaloni mirrors for the GT4 in stock. They are 39.80 + VAT each. These can be purchased online or if you are in the area feel free to drop by. All the best Mark

David, Congratulations on the car. I can't wait to see photos. Re: Exhaust. I got a stebro for mine, it's about half the cost of the tubi. Sounds great. I don't know how it compares to the Tubi. But, I always have people comment on how good my car sounds. Dom |

David, Welcome aboard, Keep the 14's but get 16" wheels (see my profile) they handle and feel great. Geta tubi, repeat get a tubi and a K&N exhaust you will not believe the difference it makes. Go with the californias I have several factory brochures with them shown on the car, my car came with one. PO put a second on the passengers side. Do some of the work yourself I have done virtually all my repairs with the help of many on this list, the ferrarilist and the yahoo tech site. Enjoy, Rob P.S. get a tubi!!

Excellent David! Congrats again! As for your questions: 1) One definite advantage to the 16" wheels is more tire choice. I like the look of the 14" wheels (keeps it original) and it still handles reasonably well. 2) There's another UK member on this board (Mick, I can't remember his last name) who's installing a system made by a London-based company. The thread was somewhere in the Tech Q&A section... 3) I like the Vitaloni's I have on mine. They offer great vision to the back and look "right" on the car. I think they are the "Pronto's" (???). |

Finally got my hands on the car today - ignition(condenser) problems delayed me after my post 10 days ago... Well after all these years waiting to own a Ferrari what's it like? First off it's quite an early GT4 - late '74 chassis no.08964. All the original Dino badging is in place and its running on the original 14" Cromodoras. It was originally white but very nicely resprayed red in 2000. Beige interior with eveything working nicely in the dash. Only 3 previous owners - the original purchaser kept it 'til 1999! Every bit of paperwork has been kept and it's done a genuine 43000 miles. All the hand books are with it, as are the tools and it's even got the little detachable light in the glove box still(I'm easily pleased!) It's a real eye opener how much the first owner spent on maintenance in the first decade or two - at that stage he was clocking up between 2-3000 miles a year and the servicing costs at Maranello Concessionaires were frightening. It was needing major rust surgery by 1981... The up side of all this is it's now in very good condition as it seems problems were always rectified whatever the cost! A good buy for 11500 ( I hope!) As the say in the classis car mags "a Ferrari for the price of a (insert name of mundane ordinary car here)". You know it makes sense... Driving it! I was prepared to be disappointed - well it's nearly 30 years old and 255 Italian optimistic bhp doesn't sound a lot in these power crazy days. BUT...it's marvellous. The noise of the Webers slurping away behind you, the immediate throttle response, the sheer mechanical-ness of the gear change, the delicacy of the ride/handling balance - I could go on but I'm preaching to the converted! Allowing for the fact it's not been driven much for the last 2 years and the shocks are probably a bit tired I was very impressed indeed. It's nice not to be disappointed after all these years and I can see why some of you would hang on to your 308's and GT4's whatever. Some thoughts which you may care to comment on: The wheels are the originals (which obviously I'll keep) but is there any advantage in a set of 16" five-spoke GTB type wheels for more "spirited" driving? The exhaust is on its last legs. Tubi on a GT4 ? - I see they list one on their site. Stick with the Ferrari original? It's wearing a pair of ungainly black rectangular electric external door mirrors - they may be good for rear vision but do nothing for the delicate lines of the car. They'll have to go! I have it on good authority that Euro series 1's originally had no mirrors but I may go for the Vitaloni California type mirrors as I'll need something to cover the holes in the doors! Just to finish with... the clutch pedal didn't feel right as my leg was bent right up and the pedal was a lot higher than the brake. Oh well I thought it's not suppoed to be comfortable - before I looked closely at it I was leafing through the receipts. May 1975 "modify clutch pedal as owners instuctions" said the bill from Maranello - looking at the pedal there was a carefully fashioned block of wood and aluminium at least 4cm thick screwed to the pedal! I've heard of a built up orthopaedic shoe before , but a built up pedal! Suffice it to say that now I've removed the block things are a little more comfortable for my 6'2" frame. No pics yet as I'm too busy driving it and am frightened of digital cameras... I'll sort something out soon.
