Jim, the problem with that is that the electronic diagnostic equipment needed to diagnose some problems are sold only to FNA dealers.

I am not one of the mechanics.
There is plenty of mechanics to work on them. Further I do not believe that a Ferrari dealer will not work on your car, after all they make money´and that is where the real money is for them.
If the car has a US title already issued I would not worry at all. Who cares who the conversion did, as long as the car is in good condition.

I would not presently opt to import the car. See the threads on imports and the fight Ameristar has now with FNA and DOT. I'd wait until that is resolved.

Make sure you save enough money to offset the value loss over the next months.

I was just offered a 348 Spider for $61,000!!!

It seems to me that there are plenty of qualified Ferrari mechanics that have no ties to FNA that would be happy to work on your car. My guess is that most of the members of FC use independant mechanics based on the threads I've read here. I don't expect my car to ever see a dealership again.

Two major issues: 1)FNA is attempting to convince the DOT that all the gray market 355/360/550s in the country are not legal and that it would cost between $60,000.00 and $80,000.00 to have them certified; 2)FNA is discouraging all of its dealers to work on such cars. In fact, I was planning on buying a euro spec 355 spider until I heard about these issues late last year. I opted for a U.S. spec 348 spider instead.

I have a chance to purchase a 1999 Euro 355. The car has been converted to meet DOT, EPA regulations. I was curious as to whether there were any issues that I needed to be aware of before going ahead with purchasing a converted car (besides the usual of who did the conversion, getting it inspected by an independent mechanic, lack of warantee, etc). Will a regular Ferrari dealership service department work on these cars?

Thanks for any advice.
