May I just add how heartened I am in reading the comments in this thread. Prior to reading this thread, I did not think it would be a good idea to join my local Ferrari Owner's Club here in Melbourne, Australia. Now I'm of a slightly different mind. Nika, I don't pretend to know you or your circumstances, but if you were able to overcome some adversity in your life, to the point now where you own a Ferrari and appear to be generally satisfied, I draw great motivation from this.

As for the rest of the Ferrari owners on this site, I'd just like to express how much I appreciate your generous sentiments. Oh well, 'if it's to be, it's up to me' is one of my favourite motto's, so I better hit those books even harder and graduate with the law degree with some good marks! To all the others aspiring to Ferrari ownership, don't give up! Even if you don't get that Ferrari by 30 or 35, don't beat yourself up; you are in NO way a failure. Just keep on trying, you will all get there in time.

In the meantime, I'll conduct some research on the FOC to see whether I am eligible to join as an associate member.

maybe I can be the first person you buy from..:-)

www.4Ferrari.com

Great goal. 2004 is in the cards. 2004 is enough to get setup. 2004 is your year!

Technically you have achieved that goal then. If you had the money at one point and were ready, you have achieved your goal. The detour with your baby is just a side step. Cute side step I hope:-)

Same with Jim, he bought a house with the money. God I do the same. I make enough to buy a bigger Ferrari but at the moment I have other things that are more important to me. Buying property is one of them:-)

When I bought this 348 I had the cash to buy it outright but decided to finance the car. 3 years. Next year MArch is my last payment. Ther eis no need to slap $40,000 on the table for your toy. If you make a steady income of $1,000 extra, take it as a payment and come with little money. Invest the rest into some income producing investment and let a rental or other things make you money over the next decades!

Don't strangle yourself with payments though. It is not that important! Goals can be re-set, bankrupcy can not be undone!

Martin,
Thank you for your advice. In fact a thread a few months ago you posted the same statement. That is what started me thinking about my goal. My original goal was to "OWN", but I always said before I turn 30, not a specific date. Driving one has also been a goal and you are right I have achieved that. I was about to make the purchase on a 308 a few years ago, but just before I made the final decision, we found out that we were going to have a baby. We then went from two incomes no children to one income and now two children. I am setting my goal now. I WILL OWN A FERRARI 328 BY SEPTEMBER 5th, 2004. Martin you will be the first person I will email when I take delivery.

Terry,
are you sure your goal was to "OWN" a Ferrari or just to Drive a Ferrari?

We do not give much thought about the words we chose daily. Mighty, may, one-day, just as you have done here. If you had told yourself you will drive a Ferrari you have long achieved your goel, didn't you. As for your determination and enthusiasm, I am 99% positive that THIS was your goal, although subconciously you may have thought about your own car, "driving" does not necessary mean that!

As for the one-day comment. Change that to a specfic time and say you will be a Ferrari owner by< this date. Look for the model you like and go for it. Hand pictures and models on your desk.

Am I right here?

Terry, my goal was much the same. I told myself I'd have my car by 35. It turned out I bought some real estate that birthday instead, so I changed my goal to age 40. I turned 40 in August and for my birthday present I drove my Ferrari home across the Rocky Mountains.

When I finally decided that now was the time to buy my first Ferrari, I decided to do some research on Ferrari groups and clubs. I found the Nortwest Region FCA site and found an article in the FAQ section on "how should a Ferrari owner act". Thought you might like to read it.

http://www.ferrariclub.com/faq/etiquette.html

My wife and I have used much of this philosophy with our antique cars and fire engines. We believe that our cars and trucks are to be shared. To see the joy that is brought to the people who ride with us, or just stop by to see the vehicles is far more than money could ever buy.

Terry,

We have a lot in common. I see that you are a graphic designer as well. There is a lot of sweat and tears to get where you want to go, I know exactly what you are talking about. Unfortunately it is a long road for the creative people, but keep that determination going because I truly believe nothing is unattainable if you work hard enough and always have faith in what you are doing and most importantly yourself.

Take care.

Thank you so much for all of your nice comments about my post. Many times I have read on this and other forums about setting a goal and you will acheive it. When I was 15 I made a goal for my self that "when I turned 30 I WILL have a Ferrari". Well I turn 30 in September and I will not have a Ferrari. Don't get me wrong I have not given up, I know that I WILL HAVE A FERRARI in a few years, but I am also realistic that less than 5 months is not quite possible. I am a little depressed this year because I have failed, but I am just more determined to make it happen. I do have two wonderful daughters that fill my life with so much joy, I don't believe any Ferrari could make me as happy as they do. I am a very lucky man!

Bruce- thank you for your wonderful offer to set up a fund for me to get a Ferrari, of course I would never turn down such an offer, but I am determined to earn one. The only reason I do not have one is because I have not earned it, so I have to look within.

To all you non-yet-Ferrari-owners:

Your time will come. There is do doubt. If your fire is strong enough to make you do the things you do, you will set your brain to work for this goal. It is so deep embedded in your thoughts that your brain has no chance but to find a way to make it happen.

It is a general misconception that Ferrari owners are snobby. At most gatherings I have found just the opposite. Most of them were successful but gracious and have opened doors for others. I think this is part of the "responsability" that goes with these cars. Envoke the passion in others so one day there will be only Ferraris oon the road!

LOL

Yes Magoo....darn.... my driving does have that one requirement.

One time when I brought the car to work I had the parking lot attendant sit in it - I took him for a drive......he brought a disposable camera to take pix so he could send them to his "homeland". He offered to buy my lunch as a thank you but I declined. (I know how little they make$$ in that job) But since then....anytime my car is in the garage there I'm never blocked in, my cars are well taken care of. So a little kindness went a long way :o)

and who would do something like this to their car: (It was for a children's charity and only magnets) charity

HEY TERRY! Sounds a lot like my past! That was very nice. I have to say that 99% of all the Ferrari owners I know, are warm, open, receptive and wonderful people, always willing to stop and chat about the cars. Just yesterday, I was out in the 308, stopped at Burger King and the place emptied to look at the car. I must have answered 250 questions in a matter of 10 minutes. All those kids left with a big smile, and that made me feel really good.

You are right, these cars are truly special.

I've driven the best cars - been in the best villas......maybe I dont own a 550 but I love them. If you told me I'd own a Ferrari a few years sgo .... I would of laughed. I mean I had just had my Dad pass away....and I just left an abusive marriage.....but I worked hard.

The door of MY 308 will always be open to anyone that appreciates the car.....it may not be a 550 - but it's mine

:o)

Terry,
My wife called me today to tell me that my autoweek subscription was ending and if I wanted to renew it. I told her not to renew it. For over ten years I looked for the Ferrari ads in the back of Autoweek.
Now I own one, a 20 year wait is now over.

My beautiful wife and kids have supported me all the way. Now my wife argues over who going to drive, her or me.
It has become a memner of the family.
PUT YOUR MIND TO IT AND GO GET IT. Never stop tring.

We had a long time member in our chapter that was adamit that only Ferrari owners could belong to the club. I strongley disagreed with this elitest attitude. When we became a FCA chapter, that allowed anyone with a passion for Ferrari to join, he went through the roof. Fortunatly, that individual (who never drove his Ferrari anyway) decided he did not want to associate with any group that allowed non-owners to participate and he is no longer in our club, He has not been missed. Terry is a perfect example of why anyone with the passion for Ferrari should be allowed to join a club. Nice job Terry... Marcus, ditto! Chris

As I awaited the delivery of my first Ferrari, I stumbled across this site. I have to admit that I had bought into the stereotypes of Ferrari owners, but didn't care because that's not why I was buying mine. Well, in a few short weeks, I have met some of the best people imagineable here, and continue to be amazed at the real feeling of community, not just on this site, but in the "real" world. I, too, thank you guys for your comments, and wish you all the luck, as well.

Terry,
You could have not said it any better. I am not a Ferrari owner yet either and the guys on here have been very gracious! I have been invited to Norwood this Saturday and I cannot tell you how excited I am to see all these beautiful cars. I have been offered rides in a couple and can't wait for that to happen! Just to be apart of this group is something I will cherish for a lifetime! I too thank all of you for a warm reception and especially for not even meeting me yet. I hope to be more involved and learn about these cars I have always dreamed about.
Thank you very much to all of you for sharing with me!

I have been a Ferrari Fan for as long as I can remember. I think I was 10 when I got my first Ferrari Matchbox car (I still have it). When I was 12 years old I purchased #30 of Cavallino picturing a 288 GTO on the cover. Later that same year (when I was 12) I saw my first Ferrari in the metal, a 308 GTSi in Lubbock, TX. Since then my lifes goal has been to own a Ferrari. I can remember every Ferrari I have seen to date. I don't think I could ever explain what makes Ferrari so special, but for those on the board you all know that it is not the performance, but the smell of the leather the sound of the horn, the sound of the engine the scupted body and many other undescribable aspects. I grew up in Alamogordo, NM without any opportunity to see Ferraris. I have lived in Phoenix for 10 years and for the first 8 I spent at least two days a month at the local Ferrari Dealership to look at the wonderful cars from Maranello. 2 years ago I decided to join the local region of the FOC. My original intension of joining the club was to see Ferraris at least 3 times a year and learn as much as I could about Ferrari ownership. Not having a Ferrari my wife was very worried that I would find that Ferrari owners fit the stereotype and they would be very snobby and cold.I found just the opposite. The first day I joined the club I went to the monthly meeting where I met a core group of people that were very enthusiastic and friendly. Within a month I had my first ride in a Ferrari (a 348 spider) driven my first Ferrari (a 355 Spider) and did a tune up on a Ferrari (365 GT 2+2). Since then my life has changed, I have become very active in the club, Producing our newsletter, planning and organizing most of our events and doing all of the comunication to keep members informed. I see Ferraris almost every other day. One member had me keep his 328 for 2 months as he looked for a job out of state (and he requested I drive it weekly). I have driven everything from a 1969 206 GT Dino to a 550 Maranello. I have done various maintanence on Ferraris and I have been at speed in MANY different Ferraris. Most of the members of our club say I do way too much work for the club, but I would like to say I have many more hours if not years to put in to repay the wonderful Ferrari owners of Arizona for all of the experiences I have been able to enjoy. You might think that the experiences with the cars and the knowledge gained are the best rewards, but not so. The very good friends I have made is what I will never be able to repay. I am not close to buying a Ferrari and will not be for quite a while, but everyone in our over 100 membership treats me as an equal. I just thought I would post this here as a THANK YOU to the warm reception I have recieved by Ferrari Owners, I promise when I buy my Ferrari, I will be equally as gracious to future owners and enthusiasts.
