As soon as I finish repairing my clothes dryer, I'll hook up the scanner (to my computer, not the dryer!) and get a copy out to all of you. Ed, your email address? |

"Wayne, you of all people! That is a P3, Webbers." Duh. My apologies. By the way, there is a great article in the November 1970 issue of Motor Trend describing all of the modifications that were made to 0850 in order to make it streetable. There's also a priceless photo of the car sitting in traffic on Sunset Blvd! |

James, you mean to tell me that the heart of your P4 is here in Arizona? I could never imagine such a piece of mechanical glory ever being in this state! Simply fabulous! Very nice cars, your attention for detail is spectacular! |

Wayne You of all people! That is a P3, Webbers. This is a P4 Mechanical FI. Totally different animal. When they raced this car they had to use one set (temp) of plugs to start it and warm it up and a different set (temp) to race it. They got it good and hot and pushed it to the starting line. They had about a 10 minute window to refire it on race settings. (Which when hot could be done from the cockpit) If it cooled they had to begin the procedure again. Alberto and Wallace made a few changes in the interest of safety and praticality. They've hidden an electronic ignition system inside the original distributors, and are using a safer Bosch high pressure FI pump with a safety line to a drain so if the seals go it doesn't dump fuel at 120PSI onto the hot exhaust pipes. The electronic ignition is very trick as it has to fire 24 plugs. We've been very careful to keep all of the original pieces so it could be put back. Assuming I get invited to a concours I trust as Gentlemen you and Gerald will only deduct points for these modifications if you are able to notice them your selves. Best Jim Pete That's the black goo we're going to use. Thousands is correct! |

Very interesting. Thanks Jim for posting. I was thinking about your comment refering to the insides of the alloy panels being black, and I do remember reading something, somewhere about Ferrari finishing the insides of the panels in some sort of black goo (yeah, yeah very technical term ). This probably was to stop the panel drumming and to hide some of the hammer marks? Is this what you were meaning? Pete ps: I bet the supplier who you are buying the rivots from is one happy chappy!. You must need many thousands for that car. I went through many boxes on my last space frame club race car ... and I had a fibre glass body. |

"We're trying to work out a system so that I can start it from the cockpit. As this engine has mechanical FI this isn't as easy as you might think." Jim, I'm sure you're aware that Dean Martin's son Dino had 0850 converted for use here on the streets of Los Angeles. Certainly he was able to start her up from the cockpit, no? |

Wm/Taek Bob and Alberto are finishing up the engine in Scottsdale. John is riviting and fitting the panels in Indy and Greg is painting in Ill. The motor will be shipped back to WWOC as will the fitted and painted body. Sal will put it all together at WWOC. |

WHart, Sorry to butt in... In my limited experience Bob Wallace is still taking on projects. When I spoke to him he was talking about having the engine shipped to him. He would do the work and crate the engine back. Normally that's how he handles it. Don't know how Jim's doing that part. He might have a special arrangement with him. Cheers |

Arlie What we're leaning towards is a micro shock absorber adjustment motor that will manuliplate the enrichment cam and be able to be returned to the run position once engine is warmed up. We're doing it in a way that could be easily put back to original. (For those who have two men, a boy, and a dog always following along) Best |

How about a small astable multivibrator circuit feeding some square wave pulses to a standard electromechanical fuel injector mounted in the horn inlet for start up enrichment? Easily turned on or off with a cockpit mounted switch.

That is awesome to hear about the street legal bit of it. I can't wait to see pictures of the P4 on a country road. That will be sweet. Also that seems like some task to figure out a way to start it from the cockpit. I take it your MK-IV had the same problem? Thanks for the info. Erik |

Eric As it's a 67 it will be street legal. We're trying to work out a system so that I can start it from the cockpit. As this engine has mechanical FI this isn't as easy as you might think. As it now stands you have to raise the tail, turn on the low pressure pump, turn on the high pressure pump, richen the mixture, squirt fuel down the trumpets, and turn over. Having someone standing by with a fire extinguisher is a good idea as well. Bob Wallace and Alberto Pedretti are working on that detail now. When will it be done? One fine day... Des The felt keeps the cell from chaffing against the chassis and the rivets. Best Jim |

i'll assume the rivets help hold the car together, right...? ...but what does the felt do, exactly...? i mean, how does some felt help protect a fuel cell...? |

Awesome Mr. G your close attention to detail is great. Using the period felt instead of todays tapes it really shows and when the car is done will be perfect. When is it set to be done? You can make this car street legal correct? Since it was made before 68(I don't know if this is true though). Erik |

First rivets going in. Note period correct felt as opposed to racer tape being used to protect fuel cells.
