Wow,

Maybe, I should not have not given my tire chains from a Ford Explorer I once owned to my neighbor. They will fit my Ferrari wheels and tires?

only joking...

Not trying to be arguemenative but lived in N. Ca and just moved back to the carolina coast...

Ben,

30 years and only surface rust? Maybe in Tahoe.

There is a huge difference in ocean front versus 500 yards versus 1000 yards from the surf over time... Heldsburg is kind of like being in the Sieras - not ocean drive in Santa Cruz or Long Beach.

I have a surfer friend who took Ziebart up on an extended warranty and got $13k in repairs and a new car in less than 5 years (obviously not on an F-car) from living in an ocean front house.

N. Ca is much less corrosive than warm climates with warm water so it is not as noticeable there especially if you live inland.

The same friend also keeps a 4x4 post between the gear shift and the dash on his jeeps CJs because when rust causes the bodies to colapse they typically break in the middle and the dash can break you legs if the dash is not supported from the transmission.

Vincent,

The drive here on the NC outer banks is not too bad either but I don't take my F-cars there except for an occasional outting an never park one exposed ocean front. That's what my F-150 is for.

Bill

Took it Home Depot already several times. It is amazing how much stuff fits onto that passenger seat. If you leave the roof off even long items can make it.

But my fav place to take the car is Jewel. Without the spare you can fit beer and toilet paper into the front.

Great thread - I've had ordinary daily stuff in my 360 including my golf clubs (shock horror).

I carried a 6ft tall bushy tree in my Boxster once, and I also once had myself plus 2 passangers AND a golden retriever in my MGB Roadster :-)

Since this pavement was build specially for the 308, I thought she had to work for it to deserve it.

Vincent- my brother is a bit of a surfer, for the most part I find them to be a great bunch, there's an occational bad apple sure, but the longboard crowd in particuliar, especially in Northern CA, seem to be a real live and let live bunch.

I encourage you to take the F-car out, building a rack to mount the board might be intresting, I'm just pictureing a 348 with a longboard nearly the legnth of the car! :-) I dig the idea.

Just remenber to bring plenty of towels for the seats!

Don't worry about the salt, I say drive the car up and down 1 for 30 years, and if it eventually needs some minor rust repair, do it, and keep driving. Wash it when you get back, etc.

Best!
Ben.

Peter,

I agree, sometimes it's not so pleasant. Some of those guys just don't get it if you ask me.

Bill,

You're right, but man there are some beautiful drives by the coast around here.

I have to go to Home Depot or some hardware store almost everyday. So when I go for a drive I try and avoid it at all costs. Plus the lines on the weekends are awful.

4 or 5 bags of groceries on a regular basis.

The largest item was a 4 foot tall 2 foot diameter bag of biodegradable packing fill in the passenger seat.

40lb bag of cow manure for my tomato plants in my mondial... NO COMMENTS FROM THE PEANUT GALLERY!!!

Vincent,
A few days sitting in an ocean front parking lot will do more damage in corrosion and salt air than other potential issues. Even 316 and 416 stainless steel will rust arround salt water! Not to mention electrical issues... I own several saltwater going boats and have enough electrical problems with all tinned marine wiring and heat shrunk connectors. Since the electrical system is so rugged and reliable on Ferrari's, I know that it would have no problem or adverse effects with salt air and spray...

Let's see--I've had two forty pound bags of mulch, assorted Koi, assorted pond plants, my road bike (in pieces behind the seats), many gallons of paint. Best experience was when a kid at the nursery wanted to load the mulch in the nose. He got several towels, and it must have taken him ten minutes--he was very careful, and dying to tell his friends he loaded a Ferrari.

I bought a 27" TV and transported it 40 miles back to our Lake house in my F355B. We had to remove it from the box and manipulate it around to get it to fit through the door.

While we were manipulating the TV a guy with a Z06 walked by and said "I've never done that in my Z06"; so I recanted "sometimes you don't have a choice".

In my first ever road trip in my '78 308, I took an entire Dell computer (CPU, monitor, printer) to my father in Chattanooga a few weeks ago, complete with 18" monitor -- an LCD, thank goodness, or it never would have fit!

And by the way: WHEW!...car ran beautifully, crammed or not.

Vincent...I am an Ex-Surfer that enjoyed only longboards. I got out of surfing due to the abundance of the trailer-trash punks that have taken over the sport. I can not believe how many low-life A-Holes there are in the water! This is just a mean group.

I frequently go to HD with my car.
5gal drum of paint on the floor and some other stuff on the seat is a typical occurance.
I have transported 2x4s in the 348TS with them standing out of the roof.

Peter,

I'm a longboarder. that means early, early mornings. The longboard crowd is different for the most part. There is the occasional a$$hole just like here but for the most part people don't care. They're just happy that you're enjoying it. You just have to make sure you are at the right breaks. Just thought I could kill two birds with one stone: early morning f-drive and a nice left.

vincent.

PS. don't just park anywhere.

Vincent..You would take your 348 to the beach and leave it in an area abound by people walking by your car with surboards? (This equals dings)..Not to mention the surfer punks that would not think twice about keying your car 'just because'. The visual is a good one, but I would stay away from surfers with a rack on your car. BTW: When is the ricer syndrome going to hit the young surf crowd? I can just see high fins on the TOPS of the boards, vents for spraying water behind the tail and other bolt on stuff:-)

Do they make a roof rack for the 348?

I would love to put my longboard on there and head to the coast.

This past weekend, I took my 355 spider to Home Depot for some pipe fittings. I had a front row parking spot. When I came out, next to my car was a Ford super duty crew cab, and my 355 spider looked like a Hot Wheels sitting next to the truck. I wish I had a camera with me.

Yesterday my wife bought a large cactus at Home Depot. It would not fit upright in our SUV even on the floor. Over my big objections, I ultimately went home and got the Mondial Cab and drove it home with her also sitting back to keep it from falling over.

Not necessarily strange, but last week I had to take a non-working alternator and exchange it for a new one. The alternator was from my Saturn and drove to AutoZone in the 308. Also took a few gallons of used oil. Routinely go to the grocery store, hardware store, bike shop, etc in the 308. It's just a car - albeit one with little storage room.

Every time that I get ready to work on the car, I have to go to Sears for supplies. So, I've had floor jacks, jack stands, and mechanic's creeper all in there.

Biggest failure: I went to Staples for a computer monitor. The box wouldn't go thru the front door. I had to take it back in and have them hold it for me until I returned with a Suburban.

All this talk about taking f-cars to Home Depot has got me thinking (not a good thing). What are some of the strangest things you have ever put in your F-car? Does the car handle better with that 40lb bag of mulch in it? Anyone have any pictures of their F-car in a home depot parking lot? We should start a file and send it in to HD (this is not my own idea it was brought up in the other thread). Where else do you take your f-cars?
Erik
