mine (1989 GTB) doesn't burn or leak oil...and it stays pretty clean. I just spent the last 4 days driving about 800 miles through northeast and the oil looks brand new

My Boxer burns very little oil, less than a quart in 1k miles. The manual indicates that a quart in 300 miles is normal though.

Remember the GTSi (2-valve) had a lot of oil burning issues (due to the guides as I recall). This was true, even from new

No engine *should* burn oil. That's not how they're designed. Ferrari engines have a reputation as burners and leakers because a quart of oil is cheap and rebuilding a Ferrari engine is frequently too expensive to make sense.

Mike. I cancelled AOL and forgot to update my profile which has been done. Have tried to send you a message to your FCA addres but just get back error messages. I will try to call you at a reasonable hour. I am in the West-3 hours behind you I believe.

(offtopic) Russ, I got your email regarding Leather Dye, and tried to email you back, but AOL reported that the mailbox was invalid. You can email me directly through our FCA website at
www.fca-se.org or call me at the number there.

When I first got my 'garage queen' 75 308GT4 (13K miles), it burned about 1 qt in 400 miles. Then it was 800 miles. Then 1200. Now it burns little/none in the 2500 between oil changes.

Go figure.

Since you put 3K miles on it I think its time for an oil change....Every 3K miles or 3 months. What part of Arizona are you at?

Ditto. My '87 burns very little oil, and it stays very clean, as well.

My 78 308 GTS burned a quart in about 2k miles, my current 87 328 burns a quart in about 1300 miles.

I have a 87 328 GTS and it burns almost no oil, I think this is a god thing. I had a 78 308 GTS and it burn 1/2 qt every 3,000. miles. Having had both cars I am very happy with the 328, great car.

When I bought my 88 328 last year it had had the oil changed by Ferrari of Scottsdale pursuant to a 30K service. They did the PPI and said that they put special racing oil in the car during the 30K service.
I have now put about 3k miles on the car and it does not appear to have burned any oil and the oil on the dipstick is very clean. Is such low oil consumption normal? I beleive that the car was well cared for by the previous owners from the receipts and have no reason tobelieve that it was ever tracked.
