Tyson

Italanmotors handles all ferrari's in HK, China and Macau, they will be receiving Enzo's, prior to distribution to lucky owners.

Prices quoted ar only car price plus warrenty, duration dependant upon age of vehicle. If still registered then transfer fee will be due, if not registered then transfer plus registration on top of agreed price. These are however minor compared to new car government charges.

Dr. Shelbee,

You are quite right. The low car tax is a very good reason for thinking of living in America.

GOD BLESS AMERICA !!! :-)

There is only one dealer for both HK and, I believe, mainland China.

I understand that in order to get round the car tax (called the first registration tax), many new owners are not having their latest acquisitions registered in HK. So by increasing the tax to an insane level, the Government may ending up losing.

SERVES THEM RIGHT !!!

Ming

Thanks for filling in the details on the Daytona. Those interested can contact dealer on www.italianmotors.com.hk

Besides taxes , insurance in HK has gone through the roof this past year nearly tripled. So anyone out thinking of buying a sports car in HK check insurance first, they normally only offer third party without fire or theft, and for that they think they are doing you a favour! Thats not too comforting as you wind your way through thousands of buses and taxis.

On the question of second hand cars being cheaper, that is true for some models, but UK prices ar still very competitive especially on 355's

Indeed James.

Funny thing though, used cars in Hong Kong are generally quite cheap compared to the states, even though new ones can be outrageously expensive.

Dr
You of course correct but HK does have the Star Ferry, which is a very beautiful trip for a few pennies...

Hi James,

There is no way you could have the Enzo licensed in HK as only RHD cars are eligible to be licensed unless you are from one of the consolates.

Another alternative is getting a "T" license specially for the usage of "test drive" by the car dealers but this will involve in a lot of restrictions.

One of the Sunday drive buddy bought a brand new Zonda Pagani C12 for HK$3.8m(half a million US$) net before tax is still bargaining with the Transport department in HK as the TD is asking for HK$5m (US$620K) tax!!

P.S. For the Enzo, it will mean that the price after-tax is effectively close to 150% of the factory price.

Hi there everybody.

Assume that the conversion rate for HK$ to US$ is roughly 8 to 1 (officially 7.8 to 1).

The old car tax in HK is :

(a) Not exceeding HK$100,000 (US$12,500) - 40%
(b) HK$100,000 to HK200,000 (US$12,500 to US$25,000) - 45%
(c) HK$200,000 to HK$300,000 (US$25,000 to US$37,500) - 50%
(d) Over HK$300,000 (US$37,500) - 60%

The proposed new car tax is:-

(a) Initial HK$150,000 (US$18,750) - 35%
(b) Next HK$150,000 (US$18,750) - 75%
(c) Next HK$200,000 (US$25,000) - 105%
(d) Balance - 150%

As far as I am aware YES they could of sold a few more if the quota lifted.

HK is great, but not too good for Ferrari owners as we can are limited by the border with China, only 30kms from HK, and traffic is heavy around city by mid morning at weekends. But get out most weekends early morning, drive down the beach for breakfast along with other ferrari, lamborghini porsche and jag owners, or tour the freeways without traffic.
